Yeah reading the conversion thread and it looks like theres no point to the armor now. Unless the conversion rate is changed then all existing armor will convert to garbage, so that means we're facing another huge hit in the pocket... Looks like Going back to architect isn't such a bad idea, they get ignored all the time anyways which I guess is better than being nerfed.

reslicing might be a bug right now and I have also been reading the WS forum and it seems the better you crafting results in the CU determins how high your slice can be up to the cap. Each item has a high end cap on how good it can possibly be including all enhancers and slicing will not allow to go over the cap. That's the gist from what I'm reading and it would seem to be similar with AS too.
