You basically need two things you need.

Credits and/or time.

If you don't have a few million credits to start you off, it'll be very hard to get the resources you need to set yourself up.

You need time to set up also. This works in 2 ways. It takes time to get a reputation even if you have the best armor on the server. Also, if you don't have credits to buy resources, you need to start harvesting the resources you need. The harvesters take credits for maintenance and the more harvesters you have, the more credits it will cost you.

I've been telling many folks this, but if you concentrate on harvesting resources for about 4-5 months and are good at it, you'll most likely have all the stuff you'll need to get started at a minimal cost.

They might not be THE BEST, but it should get you high enough to start competing with most smiths on any server. Post-CU, sometimes THE BEST resources are an overkill and you'll go over the cap anyway.

JustFYI, pre-CU, it took me 4 months of harvesting everything myself to reach triple-80 composite. I never boughta single unit of anything when I started out. I dunno if this makes sense if you're a new player, but my point is it took 4 months of harvesting everything myself to be able to make very good/competitive armor.

I'd personally suggest picking up Tailor and Merchant to go with AS so you are self-efficient, but the choice is yours. I have MDE, but the DWB is so hard now there's not much use for it except for crafting BH droids.

I may be new but I found out the hard way. First of all, you don't need anywhere near 1 million creds. You need to make a factory run of segments. 840 to be exact. Once you get 840 segments..you can grind out cores using a macro or manually *eek*. Here's a rundown of the resources you should need. BTW, these don't have to be top-notch, in fact they should be the crummiest resources you can find since you wouldn't want to waste the money or time on practice cores.

For the 840 armor segments:

8400 Steel

4200 Aluminum

4200 Wooly Hide

12600 Polymer

Throw all these into a factory or split them between two and go do something for a while. When you get back your armor segments, start grinding out those cores.

Here' the resources you'll need for the cores:

840 armor segments (you already made these, duh!)

21k gemstone

25.2k metal (any kind, preferably cheap)

25.2k fiberplast (same as above)

25.2k hide (same as above)

This should get you to 3xxx AS and then you can start making those ubese shirts till you reach master.

While I admit, if you buy all of these resources, it could cost a pretty penny. I had been setting up a small resource farming operation....mostly minerals for a few weeks prior to starting this grind. I had three wind generators kicking out all of my power, two big mineral harvesters and 1 personal chemical harvester. I found that after a few weeks of selling off half of my take from each resourceat a 2:1 (sometimes 3:1 depending on the quality) rate...I made a good bit of cash plus had resources stocked up for this grind. This was purely inadvertent...I had no idea it would work out this way, but seems to be a decent strategy, especially if your not one of the SWG wealthy. Hope this was helpful! Good luck.

I started novice armorsmith very recently and I've found that I can make bone armor biceps and bracers and sell them very quickly on the bazaar for 3K credits per piece. It's going to take a while crafting all this stuff without a macro, but at least I'm getting the XP and some decent credits whileworking my way up rather than just throwing away resources in practice mode. I've been fortunate enough to find a tailor vendor that sells factory crates of reinforced fiber panels and synthetic cloth too. I can't find factory crates of battle cores for making chest plates and helmets though. Do I need a wearables factory to create these myself? I've looked in the knowledge base but can't find any info on the type of factory I'll need.

Yes...you need to get a wearables factory to make crates of cores and segments yourself. I found it hard to believe Bria had no crates for sale either...just single cores and segments for ungodly prices.

Just as a side note, bracers give you 70xp, biceps...I'm not sure..., chestplates give you 150xp. The best (cheapest) way to grind it fast (i.e. not trying to make usable armor and sell) is just to use my method in previous post. This wil get you to MAS then you can't create and sell whatever armor u want and make serious bank.

The factory is almost done with the segments to make the cores. Now the big question is.... Do I actually need to produce the cores to use in making the ubese shirts or do I craft the cores in practice mode?

It would probably go faster touse 3 crafting tools and make the cores manually, my factory takes over two minutes just to create one core. Do you get XP for having the factory create the cores? I didn't pay attention to my XP when I ran my factory for the first time last night.

To clarify...you don't need the cores to make ubese shirts. The cores are just to get you up to 3xxx so you have access to the recipe.

The recipe for ubese shirtsrequires the following resources and the yield 126 xp per item with minimal and relatively cheap resources:

20 Iron

30 Steel

10 Fiberplast

This is how you get to master quickly and cheaply. If you're looking to make lots of money now...you might want to try another method. In fact, I only practiced with the cores so they wouldn't fill up my inventory. Good luck!

lol this thread is probably outdated but i just found it and i have a question......

i followed the threads instructions... thanks for all the helpful info!!!

I am now a 3xxx AS, and it says in the post above this that it takes some steel, iron and fiberplast to make Ubese shirts... and that it is the best way to cheaply grind out MAS.

well i just got 3xxx, and im looking at my armor and clothing tool, and it shows "ubese chestplate appearance" and it requires totally different things, including 5 identical cores, synthetic cloths, etc....

im just curious about what to do... thanks

People have been posting saying that ubese shirts are not showing up on their list of schematics. Make sure you are standing close to a private crafting station. The shirt should be the very last thing on your crating tool's list.
