It's like making coloring kits for Tailor clothing.
Go tell that to the Tailors.

Been done. But both of them don't like the idea.

I have to say I'm also on the fence on this issue.
On the one hand, I would love to be able to just churn out armor like there's no tomorrow and not really worry about color.
On the other hand, I've hand made tons of armor pieces just to also have suits that weren't black and/or white or the default color. I get praised for this by the few customers I've managed to pull already (I'm a bit new).
Now that the factory bug is fixed apparently, I think an AS who spends the time to make nice color combinations for suits will find more sales come his/her way. I just find many people who really care what their armor looks like. It allows some of us to create a niche, as some people are just better at putting together colors than others.
The idea of being able to add different mods to armor is great too. I always thought that just about any mod should be createable by a BE, even if it used insane amounts of resources, especially named ones. That would be a great cycle for the economy there (in theory). BE makes the tissue, Tailor makes the component (Fiberplast Panel, Reinforced Fiber Panel, Synthetic Cloth) and (either uses them or) sells them to an Armorsmith, who then can use those in their armor manufacturing.
