They can't make the vendors poof, I could imagine the commotion that would cause. They should just make it so you can't restock the vendor until you get the appropriate skills.

Yeah, I don't think they should just *poof* vendors like that. I think some warning should be given...

I wouldn't flame you for your comments on my opinion, we all have them. I just don't see a reason why you can't drop a vendor if you put in the time to master a craft. That is the point i was trying to make. I hate to use up a ton of my skill points to be able to control 1 vendor. I don't have an alternate so my armorsmith/ swordsman/tk is what i have. I dropped scout to get swords and enjoy it very much. If you enjoy merchant that is fine too, I personally don't like the idea of using a ton of my skill points to have a vendor. Instead of nerfing merchant and getting rid of all the vendors, I do believe that merchant should have added benefits. A merchant already gets reduced fees and maintainance if i am correct, and can manage a ton of vendors. But why is this enough if that is all you can do?
There are many suggestions and discussions going on in the merchant forum regarding skills and abilities..I think pretty much everyone is in agreement that the current state of the profession is nowhere near its potential. I think if they made merchant more appealing, with added benefits, we'll see more folks hanging on to the profession.
i just find it funny that so many people claim they don't want to spend (or "waste") the corresponding skill points for the benefits of a profession.

These are the arguments that are flawed to me. Look at it this way, I'm a MAS, MDE and Master Artisan with enough points in Merchant to run 6 vendors. I have harvesters that I need to empty. Now on occasions I get Maulers or or Red Dot mobs around my harvesters, so by your reckoning I should be able to master TKA then drop it but still keep all the skills as I don't want to waste a ton of skill points in a combat profession and like you say I took my time to master it, but I need some combat skill to defend myself from attack.
Give my that option then I'll support you asking for the vendors to stay after dropping merchant

For me the only real benefit of the profession is to have a vendor. I don't stock a ton so i only want one and that is all I have. As for added benefits of the profession I do think they should seriously revamp it.

Well as a Master Armorsmith/ Master Merchant (soon to be dropped) I have to agree. I think the merchant field is a waste, it should be something bought from NPC's the "higher the Vendor type" the higher the cost for the "deed". I personally hate the ad barking and never use it, I dont "dress up" my vendors (my choice I know). I will however keep business III under artisan for the ability of a Terminal vendor. Im lucky my city has a mall and it gets plenty of traffic, most of the vendors are small terminal types. On a side note in this game you really really have to like crafting to maintain it. I really dont like crafting at all ,Armorsmith was my 4th holo and I unlocked once I mastered it and decided to keep it to help recover the cost in grinding. I have found that I really only break even . The resources are a major pain to locate so I normally just buy them. To all of you that can maintain a crafting profession "heres to you" wow how you do it Ill never know.

Being a merchant allows you to have vendors, not being a merchant then you should lose the ability to use them just like dropping AS you lose the ability to craft armour. No, this argument is stupid, and I'm tired of hearing it.
I trained as a merchant to hire the vendors, taught them accordingly and left it at that. I can no longer change their ad barking, their names, register them, create new ones, etc.
Having to waste SP on merchant is just stupid. This change better not go into effect.
No, it's not a stupid argument. You have 250 skill points. If you want the benifit of a certain skill, you spend the points to get that benifit, WHATEVER it is. Including having vendors.
But truth be told, you can thank the people who have been truely abusing this loophole, and using vendors for storage and such things. If there were only a few people who were doing what you were doing, and actualy using the vendors properly, despite having given up the skills, this might of attracted alot less attention. But some people can't leave well enough alone.

I have been quoted several times but I am not sure my point is actually coming across correctly or by its intent. I am not saying that I should maintain the ability of a certain profession after you drop. My suggestion is that a crafter should have the ability to have a vendor built in to its skilltree. Say at master you are granted 1 vendor. I am sure that there are merchants out there with your 12 vendors that yell at me and eat up 12 screens of the chat box that would say "NO!!! We earned the right to have our vendors by standing at the coronet starport barking our waypoint and charging people to see empty vendors." but that isn't my idea of business. I like interacting with people, I don't want to stand around all the time and do nothing. This is the very reason why i don't want to get doc and buff all the time. The money is great but it is the same thing over and over. My holo says dancer and I tried it but I got so bored with it I dropped before I finished.

as a master merchant and armoursmith ,i guess this thread affects me so i will give my two pennys.
merchant is not a profession ,and should be removed from the game ,the galactic bazzar should take over its place .
the galactic bazzar is a much better way of running trade ,no one uses the auction part of the bazzars cos the cap is too low ,it would stop all the crappy spam everytime you goto a space port ,of afk people macroing there vendor waypoint only for you to get there and it be empty.
i have spent the last 3 days systematicly going from vendor to vendor in the vain hope of finding a rare material ,the option for one stop trade is already in the game ,why not embrace it ?
take merchant out as it serves no purpose ,other than to dress up a pretty maiden in skimpy outfits (or is that just me? ;-))
this would free up time for all players ,and also very very rare skill points that are wasted on merchant ?
just as an example of how much of a waste it is ,on one profession i spend a few skill points and am able to craft armour that protects you against a blast from a at st walker and in merchant for the same points i can get my vendor to say "good morning would you like to buy some armour"
heres a curve ball for you , if they didnt want to buy the armour why the hell are they in my shop ?
drop the profession DEV'S it sucks ,i should know im a master at it
if that aint possible then here an idea ,make vendors craftable ,that way anyone can hire one in the same way they can a bike or gun .i see no advantage to having a crafted vendor ,but may be thats the point .
while were harping on about things please god grant me one wish ,put a search engine on the damn bazzar (hmm theres an idea for what a merchant could do) ,i dont want to have to trawl though page after page of crap looking for one damn rare resourse ,i want to walk up to a terminal and type "beyrillius copper " in a galaxy wide search ,its that simple!
then i want the results ,infact you could go further and add .....wait for it ......advanced search !!!!
so i could decide what quality i want etc etc .
sorry if i ranted ,but as a merchant im in the same situation as a few people here ,im locked in profession i cant afford to drop to go have fun and hunt or quest ,and when i do i cant increase my combat skills cos im lcked in to merchant ,not just for me but others that need my vendors to be registered etc etc ,

I welcome this change...
I really do not see why you should still have benefits from a profession you gave up...
I see two choices for you :
- Get some merchant skills
- Set up a business relationship with a master merchant ( I am master AS and merchant but someday I just wish someone else was selling my wares as the worse part of my job is loading an average of 150 pieces on vendors every day...)
Besides once that change goes into the game we can hope that finally merchants will become more usefull as people will need someone to sell their wares...( and finally all the empty vendors you can see everywhere will go away !!!!)

Honestly, do you gain a benefit from a swoop or armor or anything you use? Yes... when you make a vendor do you pay maintence for its features.. yes you do.. the DEV's want to save space to the DB ever noticed that there is not a lot of loot on anything you kill? its all to save on db's space.. Its all about the space.. The whole argument is crap when it comes to vendors, honestly I like the earlier idea of a galactic exchange will it happen no because we can't have 2000 players requesting access to the bazzar that would lag the system. The Vendors help the system if they are used sparingly problem is that things are not very stackable for ease of use.. The Vendors are bought and paid for if you want to have Merchants doing something have them craft vendors, and sell them to artisans with various features then they will have a purpose forcing the artisans to become soo narrow is wrong..
MY two cents..

Business III is 24 points. That's less than 1/10th of what ya get. Invest the points or don't.
Merchant isn't a crafting profession. It isn't a combat profession. It is unique. Vendors arn't draft schematics (which you don't keep after dropping skill points, by the way). If you feel it's worthless to put points into Merchant, then don't... you might change your opinion.
Fool yourself, if you like. Fact of the matter is keeping vendors without having the points invested is an exploit. It's not how the system was intended to work. Those two things are obvious to anyone.
Added functionality to how vendors are SUPPOSED to work is another story. While they're at it, changes need to be made to how vendoring for others works. There is a million and one good ideas over on the Merchant forum for the Devs to pick from. The merchant un-nerf is needed but it's a bit silly for them to tell folks to go through a merchant to sell goods but not make the tools needed for that process available.

You can have a vendor without taking any merchant skills whatsoever.... it's in the Business line of Artisan. A very small investment in skill points to allow you your one vendor.
People are just going to have to get used to the fact (and it is a fact) that having multiple vendors without having any Merchant skills is a bug, and one that is going to get fixed. It was never intended to work like that, and soon the Merchant class is going to work the way it was always supposed to work.
The problem is that the Devs have left this bug unfixed for so long that people think that it is the way it is supposed to work. And now they feel like they're being nerfed by this change.
