Make sure your Armor can block the type of damage and you should have no problem.

I was advised by a friend to pick one of them up, as I'm wearing Ubese armour (70% kinetic, much lower energy/blast etc)

I found one for sale (brand new), equipped it and it all seemed ticketty-boo. However, I was killed on Lok and now when I examine it, it appears as having a Condition of 0/900 (or whatever max condition it is). Now, I don't know if it was like this prior to my death, or if it's a bug or what!

Does anybody have any info on shield generators that might shed some light on this? I'd expect some kind of recharge like droids require, but my friend (who I haven't been able to speak to since discovering this problem) said you just equip 'em and go.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Tyl

Shields lose condition with every hit they absorb. ( i thing they lose the same amount which is absorbed)

So after it absorbed 900 dmg points it is at 0/900 and useless... dunno how much they hit you on Lok... i guess it just wore out.

That's the weird thing: I bought it from a player Vendor. I always make sure to check the condition of items on the bazaar (particularly) and I'm pretty sure I would have noticed the 0-condition on the vendor.

As for deaths, I've only died once since purchasing it and I haven't tried to repair it, either...

Very strange... I wonder if I should contact customer support, as the purchasing deal was very laggy. I'm wondering if I've somehow picked up a one with corrupted data or something...

How long did you use it?

It probably wore out, like the other poster said. IF it works, and I said if, it doesn't take long to lose those 900 points. IMO, save those 10's of Ks wasted on PSG's and get some good comp. The last time I used them, and have yet to see anything saying they're fixed yet, it would work once, maybe, and then either lose the resist I was really looking for, or it just completely stopped working altogether, even though it still showed nearly full condition. Plus, I believe the resists lower as the condition lowers. So unless you're a Wook, which you say you're already wearing armor, don't even bother with them. The cost to benefit is really bad. Get some good comp. armor and food/spice. Much more bang for your cred. IMO at least.

Thanks guys - I'd only used it in one (admitedly tough) lair attack, so it may well have "run out of power" already...

I'm currently wearing some very, very nice Ubese, as my Composite was just too encumbering. As I'm doing Brawler skills, the Kinetic resists are ideal, but obviously they don't match the other resists of my Comp armour (hence the shield to protect me from pistol attacks...)

Oh well...

Thanks,

Tyl

I think you got a bad psg. I bought one once off a bazaar and when i looked at it in my inventory, it had a level of 0/900. I destroyed it and sent a e-mail to the guy who put it there. I got no response from him. Anyway, I am a wookie so I have to use psg's to survive. I have been using the same psg for about 3 weeks now. I have probably cloned a dozen times since I equipped it. It is at 400/900 now. I hope this helps you.

PSG's dont lose condition based on the amount of damage the take anymore.

Iwent throughtwo PSG's waay back and they are effective at protecting you from damage, however they should be sold by factory crates they wear out so fast.

Maybe useful only when equipped before going into extra dangerous situations.

Not worth the investment IMO.

> The devs loved the idea of them because it fit with continuity

Apologies for the thread necromancy, but how do psg's fit in with SW continuity?

Dune, yes; but not SW. PSG's haven't appeared in any of the movies or novels that I can think of (please correct me if I'm wrong here). While they were included in the DF/JK series of pc games, they were added to increase playability and probably because of player expectations from other FPS's where the psg was a given, and had little to do with prior continuity. PSGs in SW are a fun-factor addition from the SW PC games, nothing more.

Shields most definately existed all over the EU of star wars.. the movies didnt portray them (until episode one and then in the hands of the droids army/on the back of naboo beast of burden/on the droidekas ?sp?) most likely because of limited ability to portray them properly onscreen in 77-83.. not to mention the fact that storm troopers and tie fighters where umm designed to be disposable.. it was a show of the excesses of the empire.. they could throw away men and material with roughly no care as to the cost.

But if they existed in episode one timeframe as portable shields that where "used" by droid army 30 years prior to the "current" SWG timeframe.. i think its fairly safe to assume that they are well within the continuity. Not that that says ANYTHING given the whole raft of totally out of left field inclusions like pets/creature handling that did get put into SWG.
