Huh? Spend five minutes on the bloodfin board reading brisc's posts, let alone two and a half years, and even you would have to admit whoever gave you that idea was on a spice downer.

Not saying a former scout correspondant and a former jedi correspondant wouldn't agree on this issue, but if the post is to be discredited, deal with it on its merits, not on the identity of who did or didn't post it. Hell, for all I know or care, Tiggs wrote it in a drunken stupor and posted it on brisc's account because she has a huge mortgage and can't risk saying what she really believes now that she has been caught brazenly lying to us.

Alright, aparently "Brisc" has several accounts and likes to randomly post on different ones.

I was not aware. All I see are forum names, and if your forum name does not match your ingame name, and you do not play on my server, then you are forever known as your forum name in my eyes. I spend several hours on the forums, I do not wish to spend several hours more memorizeing signatures.

With that said, the correspondant I was refering to was aparently Brisc himself, who is the old scout correspondant.

All things aside, I think his ideas are realitively hostile, I don't believe hes given the updates a chance, but I completely understand where hes comming from.

As I community veteran at this point, I honestly don't care where sony takes this game. Its entertainment to me, it always has been, and as long as I have my 15 dollars worth of fun each month, who am I to question the motives of the developers?

great post, one of the things i have started to believe over the last few days, i may be wrong, but i would assume that even the devs believe that what has happened here is totally and utterly wrong and are probably not to pleased with it. But, after all it is their job and would you give up your job right now in a useless attempt to make a point when you know and have seen first hand how SOE accepts peoples thoughts and concerns? not trying to justify it just a thought.

i strongly agree with that. SOE was in charge of everything and they were nerfing the game slowly but as far as i heard Lucas Arts is taking the controll in their hands and bringing a total and fast revamp to the game. ad thats bcos George Lucas has seen tha game and hasnt liked it. we dont care who like it or not. ill talk for my self. i like this game. ive been playing full time for over a year and i spent days-weeks on my toon trying to grind new proffessions or other stuff. now they are taking all i have from me. recently ive been grinding ForceSensitiveXP over 10 hours a day and now u are telling me that i can be jedi like justgrinding a Master Carbineer ?? i feel cheated and as far as i know %90 (!!!) of my friends are quiting. i havent bought ToOW yet and i think im lucky. i feel happy cos they havent got an extra money from me b4 they nerfed the game... first CU was somewhat OK. at least it hasnt changed proff system or ant other systems.. only the combat system and it wast that bad at all. it took 3 weeks to get used to it and now we were happy playing they are bringing 'CU2' wich is 20 times worse then the first one.
SWG was my second life. ive been spending over %30 of my time playing it (wich is over5 hours a day). SWG was a sirious game. it was fun and it was taking responsibility. but now they are turning it onto a FPS that a 10 year old can play... and what is that **edit** about playing SWG on PS3? its for making more money! u want money? go make another game called Star Wars - An Empire **edit**ed Up. but dont nerf our game.
if those changes ever happen im gona cancel all 4 account i have and im gonna tell EVERYONE i know that SWG sux and its a crap game. and to be honest thats the truth (if those things happen). and ill post threads on all te forums i know about SWG is only a money eater.

To the Developers,

While I cannot claim that I speak on behalf of the entire community, I do believe that my comments here will reflect much of what most of the veterans of this game feel at the release of the upcoming "game enchancements" information today.

To start off, for those who don't know me, I am a veteran SWG player. I tracked the game prior to release, and pre-ordered the Collector's Edition on the first day. I have played this game since day one. I own three accounts, all of which I have leveled myself. One is a Jedi, the others are non-Jedi characters. Two of those accounts are currently active (for the time being). I served as the Scout Correspondent from July 2003 until February of 2005, being the second longest serving Correspondent in the game. I attended the first Fan-fest in Anaheim (I live in Washington, DC) and I attended the Correspondent Summit in Austin, where I met Julio, Tiggs, and reintroduced myself to many of the rest of the design team that I had met at Fan-fest, including Thunderheart, Keldarin, GreenMarine (no longer with SOE) and many others. I alpha tested Jump-to-Lightspeed, and beta tested Rage of the Wookies and the Trials of Obi-Wan. I do believe that all of these experiences lend significant emphasis and credability to the opinions I want to express here.

I have reviewed the FAQ, as well as Julio's letter to the community. While it took a while to understand the magnitude of what is happening here, I have come to grips with it.

These game changes, in my opinion, represent a serious breach of trust with the community and fail to take into account the efforts that the veterans of this community have made in the game.

It is a slap in the face to announce these changes - changes which may take effect within three weeks or less to the game - ONE DAY after a new expansion that many of us have purchased copies of, some multiple copies of, was released. The dust has not even settled on The Trials of Obi-Wan, and now we are being presented with changes that will completely change the way the game looks, feels and is played. In my mind, this is little better than a virtual bait-and-switch perpetrated on the entire community.

I am well aware of the development process, thanks to my work as a Correspondent. I know that these changes must have been in the pipeline for months, particularly if all of the coding will be completed in less than one months time. The Combat Balance/Upgrade/Revamp that I assisted with and helped to shape in Austin at the Summit and throughout the process took over a year and half to develop, code and complete. Yet this entire process was done in secret, including all of the PR preparations made by Tiggs and the SOE Community Relations staff, and sprung on the community without an inkling two days after the expansion was released.

In real life, I'm a lobbyist, and I've been working in Washington for 10 years. So I've seen a lot of conspiracy theories come and go. And If I were a cynic, I would say that this was a carefully timed announcement, designed to hit the community right after the expansion was released, so that SOE and LEC could have gotten the money for the expansion from as many veterans as possible, hoping that that capital would keep the game going through the massive wave of cancellations from those same veterans when changes of this magnitude were announced. And once all the veterans are gone, marketing could focus on bringing new players to the game, who had no knowledge of the previous two years and wouldn't have a problem with what you've done here. I hope to God that that's just the anger talking here, because if any part of what I've said is just true, it would represent the biggest rip-off of an entire gaming community in the history of the gaming industry.

I feel cheated and ripped off. And I think I speak for a large portion of the community when I say that.

And this is how I feel strictly based on the timing of the announcement. The actual changes you are proposing are worse.

Changes of this magnitude, less than 6 months after changes of a similiar magnitude, make it hard for me to accept that this game will still be Star Wars Galaxies. If anything, these game enchancements seem to be attempting to turn SWG into some kind of amalgamation of World of Warcraft, Planetside and Knights of the Old Republic. This isn't why I play SWG, and isn't why I've stuck with this game for two years.

And while I recognize that we veterans will receive "elder" buffs and status in the game, that's not enough. How do you begin to repay someone for the hundreds and thousands of hours they've spent playing this game, building up credits, skills, guilds, equipment, etc. and then wiping away everything they've accomplished in less than a month? I can't tell you the number of days I've taken off work to play SWG, or ignored a deadline or got an extension on a project just to stay out a bit later in a great XP group. All of that is for naught - you are invalidating most of what I've accomplished in the game in two years and in return, I get a special buff. That's not enough.

Rangers were promised a complete revamp less than a month ago, with outlines and changes that got many of them excited about the game again. Now, Rangers have been removed. The profession that I advocated on behalf of for nearly two years, Scout, is gone. The hours and hours I spent writing and rewriting guides for the community on the profession are now worthless.

And worse than the fact that the changes can't begin to compensate for what I'm losing, you're destroying what has kept most people in this game as long as we've been here - the community.

And its already happening. I recently cancelled my World of Warcraft account (even after the news of their new expansion) to come back to SWG full time, and one of the main reasons I cited was the community. My guild on Bloodfin, which is comprised of approximately 60 players with probably close 150 accounts all-together has almost fallen apart IN THE SPAN OF FIVE HOURS. Just looking through my ventrilo, I see people with comments of "5 accounts cancelled", "3 accounts cancelled", "Anybody want to buy 100 mill credits", "3 Jedi for sale cheap, will take food for trade". These are all veteran gamers, guild leaders, beta testers, the kinds of players that MMO designers listen to and make games specifically for - and they're all unhappy. Not a single person I've spoken to is happy right now.

This entire process is fatally flawed. It's flawed because there have been consistent promises made to this community by the Community Relations staff that major changes to the game would be discussed in the community and that we would have some kind of say over them. There's a reason why there are "In Dev", "In Testing" and "In Concept" forums on these boards. But they weren't used here.

Do you even understand the magnitude of what you're doing? If you don't right now, you will when you get the metrics back on how many accounts were cancelled today.

Stop this process now. Get community feedback. Ignore the focus groups and the exit polls and LISTEN to your community. Focus groups and polling is all well and good - I use it myself. But nothing beats getting out in and amongst the actual people who play this game and hearing what they think about this. Make these changes gradual. Do them a little at a time, so that people can get used to them and integrate them into their playstyle. The game was made in a day, it doesn't need to be remade in a day.

Better yet, don't go forward with the changes at all - save them for Star Wars Galaxies II - The Search for More Money. (I hope you all get the reference).

For the sake of all of us who have put so much into this game, and even for those players who simply log in once in a while, kill a few stormtroopers but pay their $15 a month for it, reconsider these changes and allow the community a chance to respond and contribute to the process.

This is our game. It is our money and it is our free time. Respect us. Give us the opportunity to affect this process in a meaningful, cooperative way. It is the very least that we have earned through our dedication and loyalty to this game.

Brisc,

Well spoken, err, written, sir. I believe you have aptly captured the sentiment of the majority of us vets who have stuck around through everything. This poster remembers tool dispensers and making a toon during beta3 the day ahazi first went up... Anyway, I just wanted to add my voice to the chior. The fundamental change to the game stinks, the manner in which it was perpatrated stinks, and I refuse to suffer this any more. This action takes the "ole switcharoo" to new heights. The complete disregard for the amount of time we have put into developing our characters leaves me feeling ill. I'll not expound any firther as I feel the original post was both superb and succinct. f I ever get an exit survey, I'll probably just paste that text into it.

Cheers and good luck everyone!

i have been playing this game since about week 2. i am not the type to play every game that comes around the block - i find one i like and play it until it ceases to be entertaining. after a couple forum questions, i went out and bought this game. within the first month, i had met some cool people, and had started toward filling the hole in their group - the armorsmith. i made master about 2, maybe 3 months into the game, so i have been at it for 2+ years as a master now, and i have seen everything come around: the one day crafting nerf, the 300cpu going rate for quality creature resoruces, phantom assemblies that made me nearly wet my pants, critical failures that nearly made me cry, the CURB, and now i am about to see the NGE, as it has been dubbed...

i think the thing that has kept me at the game for this amount of time non-stop is the amount of diverse things we can be and do. along with my armorsmith / weaponsmith, i maintain a combat toon (dare i say fotm, without feeling cheap about myself) and a jedi. i believe that were it not for the crafting toon, i do not think the game could have held me this long.the monotonous "grind" that we generally do as combat can yeild great loot, which is always exciting, but many days when i get home i just want to sit down with the crafter and survey, place and check harvestors, get a buff, and try out some resources in different schematics.

when the news of the curb came out, i was very displeased. all the time i had spent surveying, harvesting, and occasionally buying resources in order to supply the best of the best equipment were now mostly useless. in my mind, it was a dumbing down of crafting in general since items have hard caps that can easily be reached without having all the best resources, and even now more easily reached with the entertainer buffs. in a way i feel they cheapened the crafters. sure, we all make better stuff now, but i took pride in the fact that i was able to be the best since i had the best stuff. there was the arguement that new crafters could not break into the marked without the backstock of resources that the veterans had, but i consider that a matter of learning to find yourself a niche to exploit until you are able to be self sufficient at what you wish to do. sure, this may take too long for some to stay interested, but it is one of the reasons that myself and many others enjoy this type of playstyle.

i have never been one of the doomsday - chicken little - the sky is falling types, and i have no intention of running away now either. but, that said... if there are any changes to crafting that parallel what is in other games, i would consider that to have been dumbed down too far to be enjoyable. just as many people are overjoyed when they finish a big quest and get a great reward or loot, some of the crafters are equally happy when they make a superb item. it is not the final item, but the whole process from surveying, sampling, placing harvestors, and the crafting of the item that makes it enjoyable. if it were a matter of stuffing any generic crap into a tool and pushing the button and getting a generic itemidentical to anyoneelse, i could not stick with it. it is the personal touch built into the item that makes it worthwhile. and without the crafting portion of this game, it would be hard to stick around. the combat portion is not anything special that cannot be had in another game. the community is the only thing left, and if they are relying on us sticking around because of friends and not the game itself, they need a new strategy.

factor in the seemingly inevitable no decay of items, and we are all just left here spinning around, trying to figure out what to do. i cannot even fathom the reason behind that, unless too many people cried that they could not afford equipment because they were too lazy to run missions or pick up a profession that can generate credits. if that is it, then i just do not know what to say... all i can do is hope that it is not as bad as everyone's predictions.

the curb didnt turn out so bad, but i STILL have not recovered from that yet. i never got any quantity of alantium carbonate ore, since we have not had a spawn with much more than 350oq since they announced that was an armorsmith resoruce, and i just finished stocking up on naboo bristley hide within the last month. i do hope that the resource needs will not take another dramatic turn on me again

AGREE.

I almost vomitted when I received my pre-order bill not one day after they announced these so-called "enhancements". I hope my $30 goes to enrolling the devs in a business ethics class.

I strongly agree with the posts before me, ive only played for 7 months, but right after i started playing the cu came..i remember how much i hated it, and i tried to give it a chance, cause once i started playing this game, i was hooked on it, and i mean HOOKED. Since then, ive been playing alot, i have 3 toons, one is a noob jedi, but still i made it, and i thought it was tough grinding to jedi now. Then when i listen to the veterans in my guild and i realize how hard its been for them to grind their jedis, i feel ashamed, they have put so many hrs grinding so that makes the time i put down almost nothing. Then the new update comes, i happily buy the expansion for all my toons, playing a bit on musty and i like it, something fresh, new things to do, and i keep playing, then after a few days, SOE announces a new cu upgrade, how do i feel? Robbed, tricked, and completely f*****d up. Someone decided that they gonna change the whole game and turning it into some fps game...and this AFTER they relesed the Trials of Obi wan... just doing somehting like that, they rip us off, i bet that if they announced the new cu together with the Obi trials, not many people would have bought the expansion... we got ripped off, plain and simple....Worst thing is , they are redoing the whole crafting part, removing alot of profs, leaving only 9....and jedi as a starting prof...thats just a slap in the veterans face, god knows how many hrs they spent grinding, and that must feel like **edit**, i just cant believe that they do this to the game. Im not sure what im gonna do, if im gonna keep playing or not, but decided to give ita chance...but im not sure, if i want a fps, i go play hl2 or sumething, plz SOE or LA, leave the game we love alone
