Thread: READ ME BEFORE SOE DELETES ME

Lizzy, you do realize that this whole game upgrade is your fault, right?
I mean, if you hadn't made all those posts with sacrifizing wookies for sockets, SoE would never have come to this conclusion..
SoE President: Damn it, we are losing customers to that silly game. The other one, with the pixies and the green pigs!
Assistant: Uhmm. Oh - yes sir - World of Warcraft? The elves and orcs?
President: Yes, damn it - that's the one! Why don't we have as many users as they do?! Damn it, I wan't answers now!
Assistant: Well, sir, no one really understand how these customers respond.. it might have something to do with product quality, but reports are contradictory and there are no real conclusions.
President: Damn it! Do you thinkwe can afford to go out and spend millions on quality tapes, just to be a 12-point software company?! What else have you got?!
Assistant: Err.. well, there is this rumor floating around.. I have an idea..
And so SoE sacrificed all of the crafters, the rangers and the creature handlers to the "customer gods", as the assistant called them. The rest is history.
Ouch! That hurts!
Personally, I didn't know sacrificing wookiees was the wrong thing...I should have been sacrificing the damn 16 year olds that can't grasp simple concepts (my spouse is a High School Teacher...I see proof everyday of that). So know we get the dumb version of the game.![]()
And personally, I blame Pyke. He holds his mouth a certain way when he crafts....it probably reminded them of orcs or goblins or whatever they use in those other MMORPG games.![]()
I'll never understand SOE's penchant for driving away the customers it already has in favor of trying to attract new ones.
I don't understand why they think making SWG like EQ and WoW is going to get them more subscribers. Is killing something with a blaster all that different from using a bow? There's nothing new about killing monsters in a game. I still say an SWG jedi is nothing more than an elf (fighter/magic-user) from the original D&D game. Will people really leave those games to come play the same thing in the SW universe? Maybe.
What made SWG different was the crafters, the entertainers, and the hybrid classes (smuggler, ranger, etc.). The role of these professions was unique in the gaming world and held much promise, but SOE just couldn't handle it. So they are wimping out.
I'll stick around. I want to see this for myself. Will 80 percent of their player base really be happier running around clicking on things like maniacs and grubbing for loot? I'm not nearly as concerned as I was about the CU. I just don't care as much.
Your right on Pyke. I'm curious how it will go. I'm not going anywhere right off either. I want to see where my guild goes. Most of them look to me for information as I am the guild's uber troll. I'll hang around and try to help them adjust, but if it doesn't work, I don't care anymore.

This explains so so much.
I'll be hanging around too. I have a combat character and a crafter, so we'll see where it goes. I think it has a lot of promise...promise to be fun, or promise to be bad. I'll just have to wait and see.
EDIT: oh, and I vote that it's pyke's fault too.

And I thought you would have been one of the first to jump on the band wagon to blame me!![]()
You must be scairt of my trigger clicker finger!![]()
I'm with you on this buddy, I lost faith in the game a while back when they changed with the new CU but thought i would give this a chance.. thinking to myself what a major change but i began to love it and now also being a man of 2 years or so myself and a 3 account holder i will have to agree that the new CU is nothing compared to what they are doing now.
I honestly believe that i now love the new CU for the reason that it was a slight change/addition but now to change the whole entire game would be suicide.. a complete overall on the game wasn't going to be enough for them, they have to change the whole code. this most certainly wasn't a month's worth of programming.. I myself have seen people programming games and it takes years so basically this was planned all along and the expansion packs were ways to recoup all of the lost money from cancelled accounts.. is this the way we are valued?? young and old players are being ignored, sure we suggest improvements but hey, who doesn't, but we don't want a complete new game, if that was the case we would all be orcs and such like on world of warcraft wouldn't we.
I myself will be leaving the game and so will many of my friends whom also have 3 or so accounts because of this so please SOE and Lucas Arts don't end the game this way, you are going to not only lose money but you will also lose a community built on the game with all love SWG.. please put aside the plans of a whole new game and just concentrate on ridding us of any bugs or lag and maybe revamping some of the professions and look after your community and i promise your community will always stay faithful to you if you prove to us that you do listen, thats all we ask that you take into account the views of the hundreds and thousands of SWG members and unite us all in the game we all love.
Thank you for reading my plea's
Steve
My household has four accounts so this is probably the excuse I need to cut the cord with SOE.
EQ2 was a horrific failure because it was made so a trained monkey could play it...why they would want to dumb this game down like that one is beyond me. So, not to derail the thread or anything, but should I be mining resources and crafting armor now or not? Heh.

Eloquent as always. You have captured the feeling of betrayal most of us have, regardless of whether we like the sounds of some of the changes that have been described. The dagger under the fourth rib, to my mind, is how Tiggs flat-out lied with respect to questions about the SWG start kits showing up on vendor websites.
Flat.
Out.
Lied.
"A mis-print" of a KOTOR II ad. Why lie? Why say anything? Why not ignore us for a few more days? Why spit on us, if not to say "we don't respect you enough to let you make an informed choice about how you spend your leisure dollars." I expect wholesale changes on the community relations team announced soon. How could Tiggs or any of them continue when their credibility is utterly destroyed? The irony is that ALL of this could have been averted through the use of the concept and development forums you mentioned. No one denies that the game as is has problems. You're a lobbyist. I'm a business person. Put either of us in a room for ten minutes and we could have mapped out a simple path to lead people through these changes in a positive way, and leave them believing they had been consulted and a part of the process--and, most importantly--probably even improved on the concept in meaningful ways small and large because a finite group of people is only as smart as the people in the room, and bringing in the objective, albeit often harsh--points of view of outsiders is the only guaranteed way to mitigate the danger of group-think.
I will see through these changes, and make my decision to continue playing or not when my current subscription runs out on our multple accounts. The changes appear to address some of the major deficiencies of the CU, although at the expense of potentially continuing to dumb down the rest of the game. The devil will be in the details. Given enough diversity of game experience, and a re-deployment of attention from game mechanics changes into content creation, the Star Wars universe could possibly be brought to life as fully as in the very early days of this game, before all the imbalances and design shortcuts were found and exploited.
Or FUBAR'd, yet again.

No bashing here but just so everyone knows this post was drafted by the old jedi correspondent not the orignal poster listed here.
Huh? Spend five minutes on the bloodfin board reading brisc's posts, let alone two and a half years, and even you would have to admit whoever gave you that idea was on a spice downer.
Not saying a former scout correspondant and a former jedi correspondant wouldn't agree on this issue, but if the post is to be discredited, deal with it on its merits, not on the identity of who did or didn't post it. Hell, for all I know or care, Tiggs wrote it in a drunken stupor and posted it on brisc's account because she has a huge mortgage and can't risk saying what she really believes now that she has been caught brazenly lying to us.
