Careful... you'll get a sticky thrown at you.. and probably get called an idiot..

BTW they're of no use at this point.. and more than likely never will be of any use at all... i still have it in my schems, tho it seems to do nothing

I use the others i have as deco

Ok, I'll try to explain why I react the way I do in this thread.

First, two questions are raised. Good questions, yes, and both are questions thatmost armorsmiths have, at one point or another, been unsure of. And that is exactly the reason that the answer to those questions (and many others) has been compiled intothe collection of guides in the top of the page.

So what is the problem with refering people to the stickies?

The general attitude in this thread seems to be that "getting a sticky thrown at you" is a bad thing. Like a slap in the face or an insult. I just don't understand that.

What do you do in real life?

When you get a new high-tech television that doesn't do what you'd expect it to in certain situations, do you (a) consult the manual or (b) call the shop you bought it from asking for assistance?

When you install a new program on your computer, and that program doesn't work, do you (a) check the manual to see if there is something you need to do or (b) call the hotline asking why it doesn't work?

When you are waiting for the bus at the busstop and wonder when it will come, do you (a) check the arrival/departure schedule that lists the answer to your question or do you (b) start asking people if they know when the bus will be there?

When you need to use a specific library for developing your software and have a problem getting aspecific method to work,do you (a)read the documentation or (b) write an email to the guy who originally wrote the library asking why X doesn't do Y?

Ok, granted, some of these examples are somewhat far fetched, though I hope you understand what I mean.

And no, I don't claim to have any rights to tell people how to use the forums, or any privilege to enforce my opinions on that subject onto others, but when false arguments are raised, and I quote:

"That doesn't answer the peko question. Do you need to make it into a RIS layer to use it in RIS?"

Then.. I mean, come on, this is not about winning an argument, it is still about helping eachother out - and when presented with a pointer to the solution to your answer - you deny the validity of said answer. When I point this out, in a somewhat argumentative but surely not provocative fashion, I get this for a reply:

"lol, AS has the most jerks in it "

Ok, maybe I completely misread that sentence, but I really don't like being called a jerk. I do like helping people out, but when the attitude - and this is the key issue as I see it - is that "Why should I spend time looking for the answer to my question in the stickies when I can simply make a post and hope someone will answer my question" then we simply have different opinions on how to use these forums.

If it makes you happy, I will from now on, never answer any question with a reference to the stickies. Because being told where to find the answer to your question is clearly not what you are looking for. So all of those "how do I.." or "what is wrong with.." that have been answered literally hundreds of times before will get replies from those extremely helpful armorsmiths that can infact spendan hour or moreevery day answering those questions. And I am completely sure that none of you will come to the same conclusions that I have regarding what is the ultimately more helpful way to act in here.

/shrug - I don't mean to infuriate anybody or be purposefully rude with any these comments - if you have different views on the subject, by all means let's debate it..

point taken...

Is there a problem with answering the simple question, and then referring them to the stickies if that doesnt get through to them? I mean... If your gonna reply?

that question could have been answered quickly and about as fast as "look at the sticky"

I dont have much of a problem with you nixen, you at least apologized (If you took eloods question wrong), still though, he, as well as a couple others here, sense you had a bit of a problem with it..

main reason i lost my mind here was the idiot comment by high and mighty.. Funny you didnt refer to that in your "what if" post..

What type of reaction should one give to getting called an idiot?

Wow this thing really took on alife of its own

I appreciate the sentiments from Icaris and Elood and others that have been helpful.

I came looking for an answer and felt I got nothing but attitude. Its clear some folks may enjoy getting a rise out of others along with those that giggle on the side lines. Hope you had a good time at another's expense. I assumed that this forum, along with all the others are for the entire community and not just owned by a few.

I have been doing armor for about a year and half mostly prior to the CU. Once the CU hit I lost interest in a lot of ways and still only fiddle with it from time to time. I essentially only do armor for guildies any more and very little of that. Some folks asked recently about RIS and desiring to do the best I could came here looking for some answers.

We are not all the same and maybe it would occur to others that some can read the theory on some subject and instantly be able to apply that knowledge to a given problem. Others like myself are a little slower and need more detailed examples to apply in certain situations - more along the lines of visual learners. I'm sorry if I didn't fit the mold of the experts, I now know where to take my questions.

I apologize if I stirred up any trouble I'll be leaving you all alone. I envisioned the forums as a place of community much like its been my experience on Shadowfire. I try to be as helpful there as others have been to me over the past 2+ years.

Thanks

True.. It could have been - without too much extra hassle.

Again, true - I think (I am not a native english speaker, but) that "idiot" is probably a worse noun than "jerk"

Yeah, I agree with what you say here. I guess that if there is a point to this thread (for me, possibly others too?) it is that "rudeness spawns more rudeness" or something like that.

Yes, that tends to happen alot.

Well.. yes, that is where it started, right? You felt you got a bad attitude from Natalya and possibly me as well - I think that you probably took it the wrong way, but then again, you are certainly not the first to takethosesticky-refslike that.

Having fun at anothers expense.. I don't really understand why you say that. If you think this was a "fun thread" for me to participate in.. well, it was not. Really.

About ownership.. of course it is not,and should not be, owned by a few. It is for everyone.

I don't think it is about how quickly you comprehend a theory - I think that it was about whether you had tried to find an answer before making a thread about it.. Then again, that particular issue is my little favorite pet, and for all I know I may be the only one that feels that way about it.

I apologize if I stirred up any trouble I'll be leaving you all alone. I envisioned the forums as a place of community much like its been my experience on Shadowfire. I try to be as helpful there as others have been to me over the past 2+ years.

Trouble is not always a bad thing. While not purposefully trying to cause trouble, I would think that trouble causes us to think about how we act, wouldn't you agree? For my part, maybe I should have been a lot more polite when answering.. For you? I don't know, perhaps you shouldn't have gotten so angry at Natalya's reply? Anyway, that is of course not for me to tell you.

yeah... something like that.. like throwing a sticky at someone just to prove the point that maybe someone didnt look at them, without really knowing...

you know sometimes that piece of info is buried under 9 pages of crap,

and again someone with 20 posts answered it in one simple sentence.. thats all im saying about stickys
