The thing is you dont understand how protection works. It's not a straight up add to resistance.

Say Im wearing 90% Composite with a 40%PSG and a 20% synthsteak. I get hit got 1000dmg with an ap0 weapon. Here is what happens.

PSG absorbs 40% so 600 dmg is passed down. (1000 * 0.4)

AR1 vs AP 0 means 50% is blocked by the AR so 300 damage is passed down. (600 * 0.5)

Composite is 90% resist so now only 30 damage is left (300 *.9)

Synthsteak reduces the damage by 20% so in the end you get 24 damage (30 *.2)

This has always been this way and it's pretty fair. The only thing I dont unserstand is how that mob dealt more starting damage (77 compared to 33) when you were wearing armor.

Ok, let's start with the basic way armor is supposed to stack:

You are hit for 100 points of damage by a meatlump with a basic pistol (energy). You are wearing armor that is 90% resistant to energy and a PSG that is 50% resistant to energy (Imp Prototypes can get this high).

AP0 weapon (most mobs, including the meatlump) versus AR1 target (you): 50% reduction. Current damage: 50 points

90% composite armor: 90% reduction of that damage. Current damage: 5 points.

PSG: AR1 versus AP0 weaponry. Additional 50% reduction of damage. Current damage: 2.5 points.

PSG's 50% resistance to energy attacks. Yet another 50% reduction of damage. Current damage: 1.25 points.

Any food would further reduce the damage, although I'm not sure if it can ever go below 1.

Now, that is how it's *supposed* to work. Food may be doing something funky and there may still be problems with PSG's. If that is the case then we need to look into it. However, even wearing the best armor out there (unless you are wearing 100% armor, which isa very special case), you will still receive some damage from anything that attacks you, even with every single protection possible stacked up. Don't forget, the resistances don't stack additively- they are applied multiplicatively.

ok , I see how it works now, I was thinking it stacked the other way...kinda wish it would. But still ,one last thing in remainder, is NPC's supposed to hit harder, the better resists you have in general? Cause it sure seems, so , I have taken many screenshots, seems like the higher armor I wear, the harder the NPC hits me for. Or is this also something that was made to "balance" gameplay?

for me personally, steak does nothing while i have armor equipped. PSG and armor will stack, but my steak did absolutely nothing except for catch the armor holes . I'd see a 100 point hit get reduced by 90 points, then the steak would say it absorbed like 80 some odd points, and the floaty number would say -10. thus, I found that while wearing armor, the steak didn't actually help at all except for when the armor hole hit, the steak would absorb almost as much as my armor should have, thus giving me a "backup" layer to work with. dont know if anyone else has seen this, but usually my steak would absorb just under what my armor did, thus making it useless.

Hmm, so food may not be stacking well with armor. I'll put this on the list of things to investigate. I'm going to try to put together a new "State of the Armorsmith," since with the armor hole and vuln shift bugs fixed we're somewhat lacking in direction, but it may not be done for a few days, as I'm quite busy right now with actual work

Jaato can you find out if its normal for armor to take damage from blocked/dodged/evaded hits? I keep seeing hits where I evade and see no damage from the mob but I do see my armor absorb some damage.. Since I evaded and took zero damage it doesnt seem like the armor should be getting hit either.

I noticed that a while back too. Plus when you counterattack (whatever that does), *your* armor seems to block some of that too, which is rather strange. I'm wondering how many of these things will basically become moot due to the combat rebalance. I'm trying to put together a list of things I'll be keeping my eye on once combat goes into semi-external testing.

I am seeing these things stacking just fine. Dunno about your experience. When i have been running quenker missions recently, i have 34% PSG, 70%Ubese, and steak (as well as dodging aircakes) I see myself get hit, I see the spam for the PSG, I see the spam for my armor, then I see the reduction due to food (as a white line, after the reductions for the PSG and armor). It says something like 'your damage has been reduced due to stat modification' or something. All three reduce damage down to like exactly what they should. PSG reduces by 50%, then 34%, then Ubese for 50%, then 70%, then like 40% for the food. net reduction is like 98%

hehe i call BS

try it out champ. Now perhaps the steak isn't working as intended with armor. but i'll spell it out slowly, so you don't get confused about the rest of it.

100 point damage, AP0 kinetic attack. PSG is at 34% Kinetic AR1(pre-patch8 this week if properly shifted). First, AR1 reduces damage by 50%, then 34% kinetic. Net reduction is 100*.5*.66 = 33 damage past the PSG.

Then, the armor further reduces damage by 50% for AR1, then 70% kinetic. Net reduction is 33*.5*.3= 4.95.

Even without a properly functioning steak, you are looking at a reduction of 95% of the damage. Add a steak, at 40% resist, and you are looking at near 98% resist to damage.
