Thread: A silly notion, but one nonetheless... The 5 Million Credit Challenge Move past Comp Armor

I made some padded a while back, 80% base unsliced. The heat on the picture is originally a vulnerability, allthough the blast can NOT reach 80% on this armor if you at the same time want the base this high. This is due to the fact that useing rancor padded segments you don't get to layer the segments for blast, and there is no way you can experiement it all the way from in the 10's to 80% on the final combine. If you make the segment yourself you will need some mayor nightsistershards for the baseincrease, which also leads to a low blast due to no free layerslots.

Even this armor is no way makeable to the masses. The problem with all noncomposite armor is most often the huge organiccosts, hides are expensive and often hard to get, as well as the very specific resources needed. Which helps to keep the stats down. Also for composite you may mine millions of a resource, while on the others you are lucky if you get a few thousand organics.

By the way, SeraphDauthi is useing the onedaypatch layers, which can not be reproduced in the current system.

Ok, well since I fool around with my alts armor and try to be effective, light and useless while still providing good protection and providing a great look to me. I whipped up some Padded Leggings yesterday.

My overall resource quality was above average with the Cubrian(spl?) and the Lokian hide being on the medium quality end.

I used 2 14%kinetic, 2%base, 16/16/16ham segments, Rancor Enhancement that had 3%base 5%Cold/Heat and X/8/10 ham.

The armor recieved a 26%encumbrance slice from the original 83/200/64. +-one of the health/Mind I hope my reverse % was right, I knew the 200 action as base.

Now without the added Rancor layer it would of been decently lighter, but would of had 3%less kinetic and secondaries.

As a protector, failure is not an option. if you fail not only does your future end, but the future of the one you're trying to protect ends as well.

I feel I should explain padded, I have done many different test on trying to get an overall decent encumbrance while looking cool at the same time, and the one constant is Chest and Helm are both bad, as are legs in almost all the cases, even the ones I listed I believe would of been more viable in composite.

I like the idea that the devs had, to implement armor and weapons that can be made quickly for when you start, maybe their insight wasn't the best in realising, people in general want to excel at what they do ingame to the best of their ability, and that means "grinding to the top" and then making armor, since at master level it is far better than early on.

The first case of this was easily shown in Chitin/Ubese, before the Adv. Ubese worked, some of you might remember this, Chitin was widely used and a solid 58% was the bomb. It wasn't the prettiest back then with only 3 colors to chose from, but effective, I'll add a picture of some Krayt Scaled Chitin helm I used for a long time and Still love the look(70%kinetic). Back then resources on servers didn't spawn and some people didn't even have some for a few months on servers, at that time on shadowfire, we didn't have any something to make composite(I wasn't a master than on the server, -SpiffyJr- was and informed me that Ber. Copper came with out first shift, as did Neutronium, my ticket.) At that time I was only 4124(wow..that was a long time ago) And sold to best of my knowledge the first set of Ubese for 13k to someone in Eisley, I was selling helms that day for 5k a pop and made a ton off of Ubese, maybe thats why I've also stuck to it and used it myself, it made me dough and I swear I've made as much from it as ever.)

er..OK end my personal story

Padded took a major hit from Blast and the high encumbrance as opposed to Ubese/Composite. I did a test with normal layered Ubese and non-layered padded a long time ago, probably in one of my previous post, but the major difference was the 450action encumbrance on Padded compared to the 280ish on Ubese. Ubese sufferes from one encumbrance that I've slowly worked down(If only I had 11points..) to 37mind an item, which will be going up shortly to around 39-40after segments are gone. Padded needs reworked with the Blast, change it to something else.

Mabari I have made with 56%heat resist with a krayt scale. Had a buddy use it and he was extremely happy that he lived through commandos and Fwg5's without hurting his encumbrance much, he also used adv biceps. It is light and you can get decent pre-slice bases out of it upwards to 25-30% without and special components.

Tantel, even though bugged I love the helms, I have gotten up to a 41%energy and a 21%base, not bad but the whole set suffers from only 3pieces, make it a 7piece set, making total arms, legs, and gloves as a seperate piece, give it a vuln and make Advanced possible(which was the original non-vuln reason why advanced never came into play from everything I've gathered, they didn't want people running around in all 40-50%resist)

Bone I have gotten up to 51% myself and I'm sure other have gotten it a little higher than that with some tweaking. Bone is a perfect armor, but I believe it would benefit from having a built in Kinetic, since it is the first armor most bought, and when we were not liked that much early on, some was hard to talk back into armor, I remember personally spending 10-30minutes explaining the benefits of armor with almost everyone that walked into my shop the first month or two, people bought bone and took as much damage from melee and walked away.

Some thoughts:

As for the Wookie armor, I haven't made any yet, but I do like it requiring Yavin4 hide, that was Imo one of the smartest Ideas, we already need Yavin4 Wooly and now people can get both in one trip. Nice job dev. team. As for the Endorian Wood, I must say I don't like this move, me as an armorsmith can not kill a lair of gnorts, let alone hit anything with more than 20ham, hell kreetles take me a minute to kill. Couple things need to be looked into.

Padded: Why Lokian hide? Lok spawns are messed up as it is and requiring this specific resource isn't that enjoyable, make it any Leathery hide. As for the Wooly requirement, change it we have to many armors that require wooly as it is, change it to bristley to reflect the padding outer casing with the middle casing being the Scaley. The Leather hide can just fit in somewhere. No answer for that.

Tantel: Avian Bone..One phase **edit**? This bone just always sucks, I have some of the best I've found at 700oq/400shock roughly and this is a long time looking for decent stuff. The bristley reflects the look, I like it, but No where in the armor do I see bone being used. Change this, actually do the game a favor and get rid of the avian bone.

Ubese: I love it and as do most melee people and I believe it is the most well rounded and resource required armor. It is perfect in my view with the Resist(both Special and Effectiveness) and the Encumbrance.

Composite: Nothing peeves most smiths other than seeing everyone only wearing this, but as you all know "money talks." And it comes down to that ingame also. We can easily sell an all 80%composite armor with more Encumbrance than we know what to do with for 500-1mil for roughly 3000resources(not sure on exact amount anymore) That is roughly a 100cr/unit profit and with as many failures some of the hand crafted everything before the color change happened, we sure in the hell what our time wasted before hand made up. Hopefully we can get any color or at least get a "color changing permanent toolkit" That can be used to change the coloring of armor, none of this 3day stuff, if you know a bike is horrible, I've had mine stay 6hrs before. Change the base down 5-10% or removing a layer and only take 2, sure it'll suck for most, but that will change the resist in itself.

All armor: Make all armor take a layer. That will allow people to change armor and possibly get other people to use more than the "two main" types we have.
