Thread: A silly notion, but one nonetheless... The 5 Million Credit Challenge Move past Comp Armor

Greetings all.

The reason I type this today is because of comp armor. It sells, and people love it, despite the high HAM costs.

Well, I can imagine the monotony of making just comp armor must be so dull once you have more money than God. So I toss out this challenge to the Armorsmiths of the game.

Grab the best resources you can, and see what you can come up with in terms of other armor (Bone, Padded, etc.)

Maybe you will need special additions like krayt or rancor segments, NS layers and shards, or what have you, but my challenge is for the AS community to truly begin exploring the possibilities.

You see, from day one, the rush was on to get composite out. The AS grinded to get them out. And now, from what I have seen, the other armors are neglected, and usually because inferior materials were used, or maybe quite simply because the time wasn't spent on developing them into something useful, time that was instead given to comp, and to a lesser extent, ubese.

Also, try different combinations, even ones that fly in the face of logic, to see if you can come up with something unique - try pouring the bulk of your skill points into encumberance for instance.

And now, to put my money where my mouth is, I will say this:

Since I am on radiant, I will offer 1 million credits to the first armorsmiths on radiant who can hit80% basestats across the board and 80% special protection on these armors, unsliced, and share here how they did it:

Ubese

Mabari

Bone

Padded

RIS

(the rest are broken, so I would not want an AS to waste time on broken armor - also, the stat shift is fixed on RIS)

Thus, 1 AS on Radiant can make 5 million, or 5 AS's can make 1 million each, depending on who gets what done first.

Those are the only rules - use whatever special layers, segments, or drops that can go in to affect armor that you need. The only don't is don't slice the armor.

Now, I have no idea if my request is impossible or not, but I am banking on that the only reason current AS's say that it is impossible is because they never really tried and put forth the effort they did to develop composite. *Remembers back in the day, when 40-50% base composite with the same HAM they have now was considered good armor*

So, if anyone can hit that on Radiant, I will give them a million credits. And I urge people from other servers to put up the same offer for their server, with the intent being to spur more creativity in developing armor from our AS's. After all, if a Padded can be made as good as a composite with the same HAM, some people might like padded for the variety. Same goes for the other armors I listed.

So, for the sake of variety, will any AS's take me up on my 5 Million Credit Challenge, and in doing so, help improve the variety and feel of the game?

I bet even if it isn't possible, you guys could create better non-comp, non-ubese armor than you thought you could do, if you developed it as much as Comp was.

Let the challenge begin!

RIS may be possible, but none of the others are... getting to 80% that is. Not 80% across the board. You could do it for Kinetic resists on Ubese... Maybe Chitin if you had some amazing enhancements on Kinetic. But the others just aren't possible. I think Idid hear of someone getting Padded into the 70's once on kinetic orblast though.

I think your challenge is a great idea, but there are limits on the armors your propose. While I cannot speak for padded, I don't think you could hit 80/80 with the other types. RIS possibly, but I don't even touch the stuff.

If this were possible no one would wear composite, and everyone would wear mabari.

See, the reason we can get Composite so high is because it can take 3 layers and has a high cap. Thats why it can get to 80% base SLICED. I suppose you could use some awesome Krayt segments and get to 80% base unsliced but they'd have to be like... well at least 40+%. Bone and Mabari have no layers possible. Ubese has one, and Padded has two.Geonosian RIS has 3 layers, but that is the only one that would be possible to get to 80% base, and that would basically HAVE to be sliced.

To be fair to your challenge, it would be nice to see what the max people could get some of this stuff is though. I really wanna try out some Advanced Mabari, and try to get it up as high as I can. It's gonna be in the 30's or 40's though probably, and it just doesn't have the durability of Composite either.

Bottom line is, we are stuck with Composite for high resist armor. Ubese works good as long as you are doing PvE. Thats why we need something else.

Can you expand on the rules a little - is this for a single item or a whole suit, and is this for getting either special or base to 80% or both.....

RIS could be done on both

Ubese can be done on kenitic

Chitin, possibly on kenitic

Padded, possible on both if you use UBER night sister layers

None of the others are possible, period

But you see, that is why I am advocating going ahead and using loot drops to enhance the armor.

Let me revise my challenge:

If no one can hit 80% unsliced on the above armors, then I will offer 500k to the Radiant AS's who have the best type of each armor overall, if the base resists are over 60% - HAM cost will be included in the evaluation as well.

There are lower caps on these armors too I think.

The 80% cap has been proved to be across the board, by testing both RIS and Ubese

I have some nice Rancor Padded Armor Segments but Im not sure I could reach 80% base unsliced with them.

  • Base Effectiveness : 41%

  • Integrity : 3950

  • Action Encumbrance : 5

  • Mind Encumbrance : 9

  • Heat Effectiveness : 27%

  • Cold Effectiveness : 38%

I don't think the Rancor padded segments could do it, only a couple of 20+ base night sister layers, and bung in a janta hide for good measure, could push a padded segment to over 60% base.... Final combine of 80% would then be possible...

Oh, let me clarify the rules

80% base resists across the board (unless it is a suit vunerability - those can be left as vunerabilities), and it has to be the whole suit.

Also, I am not buying the suit. I am only asking for in-game proof, post how you managed to make the suit here and the specific materials used, and maybe some screenshots. Then, you get paid, and on top of it, you get to keep the suit, which will likely sell very well in an auction before other smiths jump on the bandwagon of making other armors.

For those of you trying to get padded up to 80% base, read SeraphDauthi'sthread on padded armor - he's closer than I have seen. Some attachments and he might actually be able to pull it off...

"80% base resists across the board (unless it is a suit vunerability - those can be left as vunerabilities), and it has to be the whole suit."

Pretty lame rule for RIS...

I have gotten 77% Kinetic, 80% base on RIS though, so it is possible to get 80% across the board.
