I haven't seen a direct quote that it is broken, but people's experience seems to suggest both situations... although the majority opinion I'd say is weighted that it doesn't matter who repairs.

However, as suggested, I don't take it upon myself to make that decision for anyone. If they seem noob, I'll let them know that there is a strong opinion that it doesn't matter though, but still offer to repair if they still want me to. I carry tools and will repair if requested, and I'm not in the middle of something (e.g. the shuttle is arriving in 10 seconds). I also ask if they are knowledgable about repairs, e.g. destruction to avoid situations likea long conversation with a player about a week ago...

Guy - "Hey can you repair armor?"

Me - "Yeah sure." shuttle was still 4 mins off

Guy - "Great. Some other armorsmith totally wrecked my armor. He made it worse! And then told me that he couldn't do anything about it!"

Me - "Ah, okay, there is always a chance that it will be destroyed when repaired and..."

Guy - "So can you make it back like it was?"

Me - "No I can't"

Guy - "Can't you repair armor?"

Me - "Hang on, let me explain"

Guy - "I want my armor back like it was!"

Me - "Sorry, but you'll need to buy new armor then. Repairs will always make it worse to a random degreeand can even destroy it no matter who...."

etc, etc... I found it pretty comical. I could just imagine theother armorsmith that he first dealt with getting the gears from this guy... poor AS . I often forget what it was like to be just starting in this game. I actually get a kick out of reliving my total noob days through someone else. Not that I'm a l33t player or anything... I'm waaay to casual for such a designation.

Anyway, point is, AS and WS are one of the few profs that get asked to do an action that actually destroys other peoples stuff. You have to understand that that combined withsome pretty unknowledgable people makes for some occasionally very rude people (the guy above wasn't to me, but he was obviously distressed and likely was to the other AS). That can make for some cynical, grumpy AS's (and WS's, but AS's have the higher volume I think just due to the number of armor pieces). But really, there are some of us who haven't had our thick skin worn away yet though, so don't despair... but as we should be understanding to you, I'm just suggesting a bit of understanding, but not justification,as to why some AS's are a little crotchety.

This was covered before and numerous times, i dont remember what post it was in but if you search back there is one with a link that has a dev statements saying that the repair bonuses are currently broken and blah blah blah.......the usually stuff. My whole motto on repairing is if its not mine, i wont fix it, but id love to sell you some of mine! I was selling 80kin/80elect/68base for the longest time and alot cheaper then most others where selling there stuff. I got alot of sales during late night hours with people looking for repairs. But back on topic, the only bonuses you can get for armor repair is from an armor repair skill tape.

I've not been a Master long but have always fixed anything for anyone no matter what I'm doing if they're prepared to come to me and wait until I'm res'd or finish killing what I'm hunting.

I keep weapon and armour tools on me at all times and very rarely get a failure, for which I'm grateful. I don't charge but in my experience people usually tip me something and then worry they've not tipped enough.

My thinking is that if I help someone when they have armour they might remember me when they need there next lot. At the very worst I've made someone happy at relatively little cost to me.

I enjoy repairing armor, sometimes more than the craft. I mostly do custom orders, as I try to pool as much of the uber resources waiting for that near perfect stat combo. But not to derail the train :-P

I charge 1k per repair, and always carry tools on me. Guild members get free repairs, as do armorpieces that I have crafted for others. There is always, as we know, the chance of failure, and I make this clear, as I do with regards to ppl handing me condition zero armor. Unless you like negative stats, don't give it to me.

If I fail on a piece of armor, I have been offering to replace the piece at a reduced cost from my vendor (or a custom craft if I have the segs made already), and ppl have been positively receptive to that. Maybe something to consider.

I wish Armor Repair was built into our skill tree; if anywhere, under Armor Assembly. It amazes some players when I have them look on the skill tree for any modifiers to Armor Repair. I think that definitely needs to be addressed. I have no problem hunting for skill tapes, but I'd like to be able to modify a skill I already have b/c of my chosen profession, not hope and pray someone's prized composite helm suffers a critical fail on repair

I repair any armor for free anytime and I give people a set of Armor repair kits everytime I repair armor. I even have a armory setup for a few holo grinding friends where they drop off their damaged armor and pick up brand new sets or old repaired armor.

I tell people each time I repair its free and feel free to come to me anytime. On one condition though that they dont complain if I fail because there is nothing I can do about that and I wont replace their armor.

I have 100% effective repair kits (from that one day crafting change)which I doubt makes any more difference than a 99% kit but I like using them for people that dont have an acute knowledge of armor because the 100% stat stamps out any complaints they have. I use the 99% tools for people that are more understanding and I dont fail more or less with that 1% difference.

I dont do anything special but the following.

1) I repair in two places only, the armory and my shop. So at those locations I usually fail1 or2 timesin about 20 tries.

I will sum it up for you and you and everyone else can quote me:

"People are***holes and they are only looking out for themselves."

That is a fact. Since i made master I went out and spent my money on a crate of very good quality armor repair tools that i will use to repair people armor and ask nothing in return. I do believe that i am a rarity in this, but that is what i do.

I expect people to flame me for this and I welcome it. Since making master I have destroyed 1 piece of armor. Before i was armorsmith i destroyed damn near every piece that i tried to repair even using good tools. I do warn people that repairs are not guarenteed. They do understand this and I do recommend what pieces should be attempted and what shouldn't.

This is an older thread and I will probably opena new can of worms especially being in an armorsmith forum but I will speak out and tell the truth.

As I started the game I didn't see anyone for a month. started to believe that i was the only one on kettemoor. But now i have lots of friends on it and I welcome more people to ask me for help. I give money to noobs even though I didn't recieve the same. I help when i can, but it bothers me when someone wants something special in ways of armor and then expects me to haggle for an hour over a little money. My price on armor is my price. I try to charge fair and beat most other armorsmiths prices but with rising prices on resources this is getting tougher to do.

But this is only my opinion.

From my perspective, as a master armorsmith, armor repair is one of the nicest things you could do for another player. Too nice in fact. Its right up there with powerleveling a newbie that you don't know.

For one, there is no visible bonus to the act of repairing armor for armorsmiths. There is a way to get skill mods to improve armor repair but that is with clothing attachments and not through any attainable skill box armorsmith or otherwise. This means that we DON'T do it better than you non armorsmiths unless there is an invisible skill mod that nobody knows about.

Also, armorsmiths MAKE armor and/or SELL armor. Repairing armor is bad for business because it lowers the demand for armor.Unless you're a customer of mine or a friend, you can stick your armor up your pooter. Its not worth my time to repair your suit of armor that you bought from somebody else. Have the smith that you bought it from repair it.

That's how I feel about it anyway.

/puts in 2 cents

I been Master for a long time, my experience with armor repair have been terrible to say the least, most people come to me when there condition is at 0 and cant seem to understand that if cant be repaired. But that issue aside, I hade a suit repair recently 9 pieces of comp cond was still above 60%, 7 of the 9 pieces fell apart in my hand the other 2 were done with heavy loss to cond. This is a normal occurance for me, I used 100% repair tools on these, I have +20 to repair on my clothes and I still get this on a normal basis, my alt who is a combat prof, no artisan skills wht so ever, I have 90% success with him with getting repairs done with minor blemishes.

Now you tell me whats wrong with that picture. AS repair bugged? Hell yeah it is.

At this point, I won't even go out in public with out putting up my AFK away message. The message simply, and politely tells peps where my shop is located and what I have for sale at the moment. At the bottom I have a little statement that says "5k up front for armor repairs for 5 pieces, I supply the tools. 5k if they supply them, please double tell me if you want repairs. I accept no resposiblity for armor destruction."

Without this message up, I can not even set foot in Theed, Coronet, ect unless I want to blow a ton of people off. Its really the best way to deal with the situation, in my opinion. That way everything is pretty upfront straight off the bat, and they can decide if they still want your services.

And even if its broke, most people still 'feel' better having a master of the profession work on their goods.

Actually, I have always wondered if the clothing repair line in tailor affects armor as well. If anyone knows, I am very curious.
