Thread: does anyone fix armor anymore?

all i seem to get from the last few armorsmiths i've dealt with is a canned blow off along the lines of "it doesn't matter who fixes it", "the tool is the only deciding factor", or "you can fix it just as well as i can". reading the knowledge base, it says that a master of crafting the item has a better chance, although anyone can have a good or a bad repair at any time. i've told them name their price, but nobody will fix my armor. if they changed it so being armorsmith doesn't do anything as far as odds of repairing, could someone direct me to a dev quote on that?

Just speaking from personal experience, I fail on repairs quite often, despite using 99.9+ tools.


I stopped doing repairs because I always got yelled at for not getting a "perfect" repair (which doesn't exist).


Money is not the issue, it's the hassle afterwards most of the time.

well, i for one completely understand that a chance always exists for a failure, same as combat, where +125 accuracy will still miss, or +125 dodge will still be hit sometimes. it's just as annoying to be blown off because of the way someone else acted, rather than just not dealing with the pricks who you know their true colors. i'm perfectly fine repairing ubese or wookie armor myself, but i spent a couple hundred thousand on my kinetic and stun composite sets, and want to protect that investment.

Most of the time I get asked to repair armor I am usually in the middle of hunting things, so I'm buffed, and I don't want to waste my buff time. I also don't carry repair kits on me.

Of course the person gets mad then. I always offer to repair it later though, for free if its my own armor of course.


When I do repair armor, I like to have 0 battle fatigue, have my 99.9999% repair kits, be near a crafting station, and in my city with the bonus. I seem to have good luck repairing then.

most people who ask me to repair their armor are quite nice, and grateful for me to help them out. I keep a crate of repair tools in my backpack and long as I'm not in the middle of something important, I am more then happy to repair the armor if they come to me.

I do repairs on my Armor Brandonly and for my guild members... Thats it...


Why should I repair my compeitors armor for you when you dont spend money in my shop, and dont use my products???


9 times out of 10 I get asked to either make armor or repair armor when I am at places like Ft. Tusken or I am out running missions just because I wanted to get away from constently tending factories, and producing armor...


Most of the time I am polite... tell them no and give them the normal song and dance on the repairs.. and I make it a point that when I am out hunting/grinding a combat profession not to take thestuff I need to make armorwith me... I am out there to have fun and get away from armorsmithing for a few hours..


Its not because I dont like helping people out... Heck I'm helping out a New player later tonight on getting them some armor to help them level until they can afford composite armor... and I am doing it mostly because I want too... and I am not worried about getting too much money out of them....

I had the same problem bro when I used to be a bounty hunter.Some were even rude to me, giving me just a plain "no"one even lied to me and told me he wasnt an armorsmith(I guess the Master Armorsmith title was just for looks? ).Anyway I finally repaired it myself, and I did justfine, no perfect repairs but none broken, I repaired a suit of ubese and a suit of composite.If I were you Id just buy some good tools and do it myself, youll get about the same results as an armorsmith.Theres a rumor that armorsmiths "chance to repair" is bugged and doesnt even work...

I repair stuff all the time. Always carry tools....as long as you realize it might fail, and I don't offer replacements. Unless of course you want to visit my vendor.


For god sakes...don't ask when the shuttle has landed though.

I carry the repair tools with me and like someone else mentioned, I'll repair if I'm not involved in some kind of activity. I like to do this because I like to chat with people a little - they appreiciate the extra time I take to help them out even if there is no difinitive proof that I will be able to repair their armor better than they can. Any requests for armor while I'm away from my tools and resources, I usually take the time to email them a wp to my vendor. I always repair for free - the tips I get for helping them out more than pay for my time and expenses.


I always make them aware of the risks and make sure not to repair their armor too early and most are fine with that. Anyone who acts obnoxiously gets added to my ignore list, but they are few and far between.

I always carry tools, and offer free repairs as timer permits. I don't generally provide replacements (especially to people that expect it) when the repair doesn't go well.


I don't beleive AS's are getting any kind of repair bonus at the moment, but I do wear +22 Armor Repair tapes, so I assume I have some repair edge.

I don't carry extra tools on me, and simply tell folks I don't have the tool to repair the item with.


In my own experience, I've had no more success fixing my gear now than I did before I was even a novice artisan. I'll not accept the responsibility of fixing someone else's gear for no reason or advantage to either party.

I don't because the bonus to repair doesn't exist for smiths of any kind as far as I have experianced. So, why should I take the time to repair when you or anyone else has the same results?

I get a lot of repair requests and I do them for free as long as they supply the tools
