Thread: WHY oh why

Many have suggested this very thing before, including myself. My idea for a solution to the "unlimited storage" problem is simple: place a timer on deeds put into deed form, the same person who made the deed from the creature cannot re-tame it for say, 2 weeks?

Honestly, I cant see the problem with unlimited storage, as long as we cant just carry an extra 30 pets in our datapad and tame/remake the deeds as we need them for combat. It should be a way for CHs to sell pets on vendors, open us up for the home decoration market, and long term storage or rare or old pets that we dont want to give up, but never use.

The question isn't "is it feasible" it obviously is since BE pets can be turned into deeds and programmatically the only difference in the objects are most likely stats and settings flags. The question is "will they do it" and this one keeps being danced around from what I've read.

The stable suggestion has been offered thousands of times and the devs have still, as far as I know, not made any reply on the feasibility of such object. What is the stable idea?

Have archatecs be able to make a stable type building. These can be placed anywhere normal buildings can, and can only be used by the building owner. It cost maintance and lots, just like a house or factory would. Think of it as an immobile datapad that has a storage limit that is dependent on the archatec's skills. You could store pets in the stable, up to the max ammount allowed by the deed in question. There could be different sizes, for instance small stable, which could hold up to 3 pets, medium which could hold up to 6, ECT ECT. This would be a great idea, and the stable would not need any special art, just use a small wearables factory rehash model and put the added features (datastorage) onto it. Problem solved

BE pets cannot be turned into deeds, they start out as deeds. What you see in houses is just the deed form in the game world. Once a deed is tamed it, there is no current way to return it to deed status.

I had to destroy a couple of rancors, a torton, and my last wild-tamed GSP yesterday to make room for more powerful, CL 70 BE'd pets that I'm using to hunt with. It was done with much sadness and angst, and I really wish I could have somehow put them on deep-freeze, or, as it has been suggested many times, turned them into "deeded" pets, which I can then display in my home.

Devs are just too busy to spend any time on these "trivial" requests, we might as well accept it. With all the stuff they have on their plate, I see nothing on the horizon for the CH community until maybe Christmas time, and maybe beyond.

So let the moans go on. I am just about ready to throw in the towel too, unfortunately.

I realize the order of sequence, however the point is the code to track an animal and its stats as a "deed" and display said dropped deed as the animal render exists. So again it is already feasible for them to do, it becomes an issue of willingness.

Doesn't even have to be that...

Why not just revert the pet to deed only if it is still lvl1 and has not beed trained...? this would still make the pet sellable but stop MCH from having 30 fully grown trained rancors in deed form in their inventry waiting for the pets being used to drop...

This would also help people like me create a pet shop...

Come on Devs... is this feasible?

at the moment I am getting a lot of requests for babies from newbies, but as my datapad is full of creature I use (and some to high for me to use) I struggle getting pets for newbies their pets... I would love to be able to leave my pets somewhere and just go collecting baby rill's, zuccor boars, etc and sell/give them to newbies in towns...

I feel this would also encourage more players to become CH's as well...

At the moment I have to pass a pet to a player... catch a baby... pass them the pet... than hope they give me mine back!

This is not ideal and some my say I'm gready by wnating all my pets (about 8 I think) but I have 5 pets I can't use yet (donaed by a CHM as he dropped the profesion) and I need the others to get the XP fighting high level creatures.

Just seems I should stop helping newbies, but this also seems selfish...

any thoughts.....

In the case of having your datapad full of pets you use, I like the idea of an incubator droid module. I want a droid module that will only store and suspend growth of babies. Once they're grown up, they can't go back in the droid. This gives you temporary storage which the CH can't use for combat but still lets you store babies for sale.

Even if you *were* using this droid for your own purposes instead of for sale, it only stores *babies* which aren't combat ready and once grown can't go back into the same slot they came out of.

Or even give us unlimited slots but only allow growth on pets that see some use. Make their growth proportionate to XP earned or something. A CH with a datapad full of combat ready pets would have to put in a *lot* of work in order to get them all to that point. For the "I only use the best of the best" crowd this works because their favorite pets grow up fastest. For the "I just love my pets" crowd this works because they're willing to put in the time.

This would mean that we can have unlimited pets but still a limit on how many we can use for hunting.

Anyway still no Dev comment, does this mean they don't read the forums?

You haven't been hanging around the CH forums long have you?

The Devs read forums, just not *this* forum.

CH tame a creature it is a personal thing, they take a baby from the wild and tame it as their own pet, from a roleplay standpoint the CH would be required to become personally attached to the creature and develop a bond for this to work, its not something they can do like a mass production. They are taking a baby from its mother and setting themselves up as the replacement of that 'mother figure' for the pet.

A BE on the other hand creates pets from DNA, and can create them and not need to develop these time consuming bonds, so hence can mass produce the baby pets ready for 'others' to tame and develop that bond.

I beleive that is why CH cannot mass-sell pets in the same way a BE can, and to be honest i am thankfull they cannot as i cannot do 36k rancor missions for my money, and if i was selling pets alone id be very very poor as it is,if CH took half my buisness too.....

ahh so a BE can create pet on mass from DNA and give them out... but you still need a CH to tame and train them for others to use. So is this not where the time consuming TLC part comes in? With this in mind maybe only CH should be able to buy BE pets which would cut your trade down even more.

Anyway, with the issues of roleplaying, wouldn't it be better suited to have a CH selling pets, the person who knows about animals and how to train/look after them, rather than a scientist who grows DNA samples?

Maybe a BE's role needs to be changed as well... maybe, from a roleplaying point of view, a CH should capture paets and be able to package/trade/deed them and then Bio-engineers can geneticly enhance these creatures, rather than build from scratch. This would also enable CH and BE to work colsley together. This would be like the Slicer improving weapons and armour.

But I'm afraid that saying CH should not be able to package creatures because I don't want the competition for my profesion as a BE is not a strong argument. It still means that the creature expert cannot deal in pets the way they should.

Creature Handlers SHOULD be able to sell pets through vendors or on the bazzar...
