If encumberance actually meant something then there is a reason to wear clothing instead of armor somtimes. It depends on your role in a fight. Are you going to tank or do you want to do the most damage possible? Both have advantages and disadvantages.
I think we may be a little more fortunate in this regard after the combat rebalance anyway, so maybe worth seeing what we get then. And what happens to armour overall.

I agree with this. There needs to be something to stop the compo-bots running around, never changing. I can't even imagine how they smell at the end of the day
Overall, there needs to be some way to help the novice armorsmith and the tailor at the same time. No one wears marbari or padded or tantel. They just save their creds and buy ubesse, or more likely, compo. Clothing that offers some protection, not a ton, but a little, might be a good way to help some people shed the armor. But this I don't think would be enough. It won't help novice armorsmiths, and it won't convince compo-bots to shed their armor once a month. (I swear I don't think some take it off at all until its time for a new suit).
What I think may need to happen is a timer associated with armor wear. Heavy armor would have shorter timer duration than lighter armor. Once the timer runs out, you are stuck, and can't move until you take off the armor and let the timer recooperate. This means that the newbs that wear the lighter stuff can hunt longer and not be affected as much as those who are slaying some of the toughest creatures in game. I know this will be highly unpopular with the hardcore hunters/killers, but we all know some form of armor nerf is in the works anyway.
Another suggestion might be, once you can no longer equip the armor, you are frozen till you take it off, like when your buff runs out. I always thought it odd you needed to buff to put the stuff on, but once the buff wears off, you can wear it forever.
These are just two possiblities. Ultimately, I think novice AS will need another two sets of armor, or major tweaking off all the sets to have it make sense to even make the lower ones. I used to be an AS but gave it up seeing how long it took to climb, and just how useless the novice stuff is and how it can't sell for anything.

I do feel that this idea would be stepping on AS's toes a bit...after all BE mods got taken out of armor. I find that many people (males and females)wear clothes instead of armor, and they wear themfor fun, not just for the BE benefit. Even the pvp types have come in my shop for cool outfits. My tailor doesn't make as much money as an AS, however, she has more credits than my fully combat main character.
Encumberance really needs to be adjusted so clothing and armor besides composite become desirable to the community.
