totally,YES !
I think armor and weapons should be hand crafted for final assmebly. It would even out the playing feild for the little guy even if his stuff is not as good.
Also it would make smuggler sliced stuff with good slices even that more vaulable, as it is now how hard is it to get a 90% suit,, come on its become a joke.. if you dont have 90% then you dont have a good suit,.
I used to only hand craft my armor and did it like that untill march. that was right about the time i got run outta bussiness from the factory armorers,, Cant compete hand making against a guy with 15 factories,.,no mater how good your stuff is, its that simple.

I think the real reason you went out of business was because you didnt have constant stock.. The only thing that matters in this game is how easy I can get it.. If you need to place and order wait and all that your done.. People want it now and thats it.. When they find the sweet spot they go to again and again.. Theory of repetition and pattern forming...
ie..
I want armor w/70% base.. I have been to Je'cy armor before and got some.. I go back.. No armor in stock.. I ask someone whos good.. they say Sena..I go to Sena and she has armor..I buy.. Next timeI try Je'cy armor because they liked the service.. I dont see armor.. I go to Sena and never return to Je'cy..

um depends on the item, and depends on how much someone is willing to pay, of course enhancer pieces are all hand crafted

I had always crafted the final armors by hand, but that was just a personal preferrence. I just didn't like the hassle or wait involved with factory runs.
A full suit took me less than 2 minutes to craft by hand, much faster than any factoryrun, but I have nothing against factory crafting.

I would like to put in some comments
I do support factory runs by all means, but a smith can make a good living hand crafting suits.
lets take a few examples
fasion padded armors
this is for those who want padded armor, and want it for looks, stats dont matter. A suit like this can be made with crap resources, and no layers are needed. If you mine and hunt yourself, these are almost free, and even at 3-5cpu you are only looking at 5k or so for a full suit. I know it varies by server, but I am sure you can sell these for 100k or so a suit. People will wait patiently and sepcial orders are the norm. High end padded can sell for 200-400k per suit, and is often hand crafted.
enhanced armor
people might pay 500k-1mil and up for a chest plate made with high end NS layers and shards, same goes with helmets. The smith could easily clear 200k-1mill per peice in profit, for pvpers no cost is too high if it is primo stuff. A smith could spend all day making this stuff and do just fine, sotck levels wont matter. People will "camp" his vendor and check back regularly even if it is empty because they know that he has the best.
enhanced mabari
in an attempt to use up my spare NS shards I make NS enhanced mabari. The total HAM of the suit is like 54/8/50 (TOTAL) and is around 20% base. I sell these for 100-150k per suit and can only be done by hand. Almost all of it is profit and takes 5 min to make a suit
RIS
perhaps the biggest profit margin of all armors. I have sold over 100 peices of RIS. It can be very expensive to get into this market and reputation is what sells the armor. I regularly stock 5-10 peices of RIS on vendors and have about 30 scales or so in reserve. I was making it before the multiple loot drops, during the woolymander temple nerf and continue to do so. I can easily clear 10 mill profit on an entire suit even when I buy all the componets, and it takes less than an hour to make the suit I ahve done it so much (most time waiting for stomach to empty). I charge 500k to make a RIS peice if all componets are suppied, 500k for 5 min of work isnt too bad. I have sold more than one peice of RIS for more than 10 mill, with most of that being profit.
what I do?
I usually do a run of 45 suits of composite every two weeks or so. I have switched to making the 80/80/80 comp and it sells well. I sell it for about 500k per suit, so that is about 20 mill or so every two weeks. I have enough resources to do a run like this every two weeks for the next year, so it is all going into my pocket. THe only thing I buy is the tailor stuff and some new resources now and then. I do RIS pretty regular 3 peices or so a week, but have done 4 full suits in the last two. I am not rich, don't want to be, I buy too many 20 mill credit power hammers.
so, I do support the factory made stuff, but disagree with a lot of your points up above.
namely
profit margin being lower

umm acually when sena moved to town is when i quit, soo if someone said go see sena i was done already : ) I had been one of the only armorers around suppling at the time 3 big guilds. Tora, SYN, and a couple others i forget the names but they are nolonger. I hand made all my stuff. I would deal with 20+ customers a day Back then people only bought 1 suit and the took what they could get with slices.. not bought 20+ suits. Soo yea hand making can burn ya out.. but worst than that is /tell je'Cy can you make me composite ! ! God if that didnt just about make me wanna shoot myself,, its no wonder why i deicded to specialize in chiten this past summer. I still make armor from time to time when im bored and say hmm my vendor wants to sell armor again !
as for grading stuff, i dont know i change my prices all the time anyway.. if stuff sells i up it, if it dont i up it, if i sell out i drop it?? go figure. I have put up 90% comp helms for 120k they sold, the same 90% for 40k and they didnt sell,,when a 25k helm, unsliced sold, that was the exact same helm only it didnt have an uber slice. I had 50 helms on my vendor for 8k each,, was acid layer start was 80 acid, 80 electric 70 base all sliced,, took 3 months to sell all of um,, well they where 10k to start,, i think the last ones sold for 6k cuase i got tired of restocking um. In that time i sold tons of droids, harvesters, resources even food off the same vendors soo i know people saw um.. . /shrug My suits of bone armor sold for 20k but the comp helm for 15k on the same vendor didnt budge. some peices sold here and there, and there was full suits..i have made armor a few times since i offically stoped trying to run an acuall armor bussiness, and now im much more of a merchant with a wider variety.
Now adays im making power-ups and droids and starships. i ran the stuff for 20+ suits of stun comp but havent assmebled um yet. been having fun flying : ) ohh yea and im outta synthcloth ahh well... If you havent been back to my place, espeically since i moved to the cantina you might wanna stop back, even if its not to shop, just to check out the place.. though my stocks are a bit low atm., i took a month off.there are still over500-600 things forsale there. But drink and droids, and numerous other things are there or will be restocked in the next week. I go for more of the nitch customer not the mass produced make as much as you can varriety. 70% layer, 62% base comp with under 325 ham,, that sorta thing is my gig. anyone can make heavy stun/kin for the masses with factories.. though it does take work thats for sure.
But yea, like i said,, hand producing in my opinion is the way it should be..I know i did just fine for8 months + and there where a hella lot less armorers then thanthere are now.
Hmm maybe at combat revamp ill specialize in hunting chiten once again.. god i love that armor : )

no
This would cause the supply of armor to be cut and the price would very quickly rise.... Bad move....

Really wouldnt see the benefit to anyone to restricted final combines to hand crafting. Would slow down production and increase price. I personally do both....if im crafting ill hand craft til i get a real nice schematic and throw it in a factory.
I repeat this til all factories are running and then make the remaining pieces by hand. So no ...it should be the individuals choice. If your bored and want to craft by hand ...you can get more pieces faster by clicking for hours....but if you want to actually paly and interact in the game then you might want to use the factory. I use a combination of both depending on my mood. No reason to change this.
