Good advice
Screwing up and realizing what you did wrong can be very helpful later on.
I usually try to think what the consumer would like in what I'm experimenting on. It varies from item to item. Just imagine you're going to buy it. Usually you want to increase its effectiveness in someway (nutrition or flavor) and then add some to the filling or quantity kind of like an afterthought. But if you're not a master yet, you might just want to focus on getting one part as high as you can.

another thing you can try (and I suggested using this same resource to someone else today becuase its a really good resource) go to the bazaar and do a vendor search. Take notes on the stats of the foods other chefs on your server are selling. That way when you start crafting you atleast have an idea what your food/drink stats should look like

Thanks to you both, I appreciate the advice and my experimenting is actually coming a lot easier after playing around with it. I've just come to realize that having the nice super uber resources is what's really gonna get my food kickin.![]()
I can tell you that quality of resources are everything. I buy all my resources and I have my own miner who just gets me what I need and i usually buy enough of what ever is good to keep me going, while waiting for the uber stuff to spawn for which I'll ask him for 3m of. But while you're startingout the vendor search will be your best friend as you can find some fargains out there.
As a rule of thumb I find that everyone wants a strong buff from the food and the rest going on buff length. The only exception I have found is Ruby Bliele which I just put everythign into bringing down the fill.
