Hiya all,

I'm hoping I can get some resource gathering tips from folks. The FAQ talks about getting medium harvesters etc, but with each of those costing around 50k how are people

A) Getting the cash to purchase bigger harvesters

B) Bringing in enough resources to grind their chosen profession(s)

C) Managing to do this with 10 lots.

Any help in making resource gathering more efficient would be appreciated.

Buy as many BER 8-9 wind gens off bazaar for 500-1000 creds as lots/credits allow.

Sell wind in 3k stacks for 6k on bazaar (could probably sell for a little more but sells fast at this price).

Youshould be buyingyour first BER 10 harvesters in just a few days.

A few other things... BER 10's are good until credits aren't an issue. Stock pile power...when a shift of a resource you want comes in....you pick up all generators and use all lots to harvest that resource while it's in shift. Fusion generators are great for conserving lot space but are expensive and radioactive isn't always in shift.

Ah, the good old days. I vaugely remember buying my first harvestor off the bazaar (back when all personals were BER 2) and being really supprised when it needed power and maintenance money. I ended up doing delivery missions between Theed and Monenia for a while so I could buy a wind harvestor, a little bit of power, and pay the maint on what I had just placed. During that time, I also sampled whatever I could find while I was waiting for shuttles and made small items (hide boots, food, stuff like that (yes, I did that line first)) to sell on the bazaar. I caught a lucky break one night when I was playing in the cantina (yes, I too used to be a starving muscian). A local armorsmith was looking to provide some atmosphere in his shop with a live entertainer. I was about to /logo (I think /logo was in the game then, maybe not) and hit the sack, but the price was right. 30k for an hour's playing time. I did the gig, got the money, and invested in more harvestors (yes, personals). What I didn't use in my slow grind I sold on the bazaar in whatever size chunk I needed to be selling for 3k credits (yes, that was the limit back then). I never got rich doing this, but I did make it up to about 300k or so in the bank. I was happy because I didn't have to do any more delivery missions and I was still making more than I was spending. It was probably sometime around then that I decided to give up music and go into crafting full time. A lot of things happened after that, but you didn't ask about them. Heck, you didn't even ask about what I did say, but it is at least related to your question of getting started.

My advice always has been and always will be: don't focus on getting to master ASAP, especially when you first start out. You're gonna be poor. You won't have the resources (and I don't mean just metal, chemical, etc) as people who have been at it for a while. Find something you can enjoy doing and do it. Run some delivery missions every now and then for cash. Take up entertainer and play around at the local cantina. You can always drop it later if you wish and it's one of the cheapest professions to play (though it's also the least profitable).

Find a sponsor or a Master in a crafting profession that interests you. Offer use of your lots for a period of time in exchange for the harvesters. Consider that machine harvestable current resources generally sell for between 1.5 cpu (Fusion power) and 10 cpu (Highend rare spawns). 7-14 days per machine is more than adequate payback, especially if you offer to hunt concentrations as well.

Definitely focus on harvesting lots of power when you start. It is easy to sell power, and by stockpiling it early you won't have to stop harvesting good spawns of stuff when its in. I'd recommend getting a minimum of 4 BER 14 Fusion Generators (only require maintenance to run) before focusing on mineral, chemical, or flora as your advanced crafting profession wishes dictate.

Researchthe Elite Crafting professions that interest you FAQs.They normally have a list of Profession specific resources as well as any gating of those resources relevant stats. Familiarize yourself with this information so that you can be aware of a "good" or "rare" spawn and know when to commit all your harvesting might toward it.Having the right resources for an elite profession is a time consuming process don't worry about getting them all as quick as possible. Get the best of whats available at any time. Focus on one or two resources per shift, and rarely if ever 3 or more, unless you have more than 10 lots or 3 TOTALLY required awesome resources spawn together.

So how do you guys get your resources? Do you mostly harvest them yourself with farms or do you buy from resource vendors. I am curious how many do it themselves...kind of a poll if you will...
