Thread: Resource Gathering
I was just curious what process most people use in finding/gathering resources. Are you in a big guild and have guildies sample stuff wherever they go hunting? Do you yourself go around from planet to planet every few days sampling resources? Is SWGcrafters what you use? and if so is the info there generally up to date and accurate and fairly comprehensive for your server?
I would never rely on SWGCraft for proper cataloguing.
Usually on the day of resource changes, I visit every planet, pop up the survey tool, sample once and write down every resource, and then mass-mail the list of every resource and its stats on that planet to all of my guildmates.
Then my guildmate, also a MasterWeaponsmith, and I divvy up the resources we need for our guns, grab a few combat newbies' lots and chase concentrations around on various planets to plunk down harvesters.
Works out alright.
High quality rare resources are often very expensive. Ie, awesome wooly hide can sell for 200 cpu on my server Bloodfin. The same goes for other rare resources like kiirium, beyrllius copper etc. So if you want to have some kind of economy in your sales, you should look for those yourselves. Try to harvest the rare resources and maybe buy some of the others. If you check swgcraft for current resources you know what's in shift, then decide if you want to harvest it yourself or buy it for 3-4 cpu (I don't think you should have to pay more for any resource that's in shift).
Take some time to go to all the resource vendors advertised on your planet and if you live on a less populated one, take a trip to Corellia and do the same there. See which looks like they have quality resources and keep the waypoints to those. Compare prices. Use theFind resources page on swgcraft.com tocompare the resources you find on the vendors to what has loaded on your server. Ifthey are the best, buy them if you can afford. It's likely you won't find them cheap anywhere.
Ok here goes...
Harvesters mine resources for you while you do other things.
If money is tight, start at the entry level, with personal harvesters, then you can upgrade your fleet as the money rolls in.
You have 3 levels of harvesters as such, starting from the personals mentioned above, moving to medium, and finally heavies. All jump up in base maintenance and power to run them and cost price to buy or build.
You have different types of harvester for different types of resource, flora, chemicals, minerals, gas, water, then power.
You can buy these or make them yourself, personals can be done with Artisan the rest Architect. Contact an Architect for a quote of visit there vendors registered on the map.
You can also check the bazaar for personals as these seem to be cheap.
Each harvester has a Base Extraction Rate (BER) which defines how much can be extracted withing a given time. The higher the better. Personals go up to BER 4, Mediums 10 and Heavies 13. With the exception of Solar Generators at 8, Wind Generators at 9 and Fusion Generators at 14 (unless you have a nice pre-nerf version). So if you see a BER 1 personal, don't waste your money. As you will pay the same hourly maintence and power costs but only be working at a fraction of max. potential should you have a BER 4 instead.
Personals have an hourly maintenance rate of 30 credits = 720 credits per day. Mediums double that. Heavies at 90 credits a day. You will also need power at the hourly rate of 25, 50, & 75 units respectively.
Use your survey tools to find something you want to mine. Once you find a concentration you are happy with. Double click the deed from your inventory which will take you to placement where you shift the outline of the harvester around to find a spot to drop it on. Green is good to go, red and you can't place it. Also can't place near lairs, buildings or major cities, and on slopes.
Once its down, top up with maintenance and power and use the radial to operate it and set it mining. Come back periodically to empty the hopper and collect those nice resources. Keep a check on when the resource depletes so you can go redeed them.
