That's it, I am dropping armorsmith and sticking to making freaking swoops!
Seriously though someone needs to write a "Armorsmithing for Dummies" book cuz I still don't understand all this!

K, dumb question time. By the decimals is it in fact true that a 4% Base/4% Kinetic layer can truly be a 4.6% Base/4% Kinetic layer? If so, I guess this explains why I can't break 68/69% Base with the best resources...or am I missing the point?

You are correct. A 4% layer can really be something like 4.1% or 4.6% which ultimately can give rise to 1% or 2% difference in the final resist. Thats why I max out base resist in my layers instead of stopping as soon as I reach 4%.

Wow! Thank you...I guess my next batch will be closer to 80/80/70.

i actually use 2 programs to do this stuff.
Virtual Armorsmith 1.0 (for calculating resists)
Armorsmith dictionary (for calculating resource amounts)
i got both programs on these forums, so just do i search and you can find them too.
***disclaimer: having these progrmas wont make you a better AS, i promise

After reading these posts I was curious. I am by no means the uber armorsmith on my server. The good comp is considered 80kin/80elec/70base. It just seems the base u guys are talkin about is a lot lower?

What I do
never do points in kinetic resist on the layers
for High base armor put 8-9 points in base resist 4%+ and 3-4points in Enc 3 of these babys
In the segment use 8 points in base and the rest in Enc got around 34% base segment with 14% kinetic
Then final experiment 8-9 points in base get the kinetic alo up to 78% then in Enc and those last few % will also gome 80% kinetic 80% Electricity and 71% base Enc around 800/730/800
Low Enc Suit
Layers just max out 9points in Enc and rest in base
Segment end End production same as high Base suit
Gives a suit of 80% kinetic 73% Electicity and 64% Base with Enc of 540/480/460

I got my segs to base 3% and kin to 13.? cuz when I put two teger for my padded they come out to 27% kinetic. I think I could the same segs to like 4% 8% is this abnormal. BTW im 12 point armorsmith but Ive been outa the game for like 8 months. Just started back 2 weeks ago

Awesome posts. Anysimiliar best practices for Stun Composite? My last suit was 38% stun / 61% base; its HAM was around 950/950/950. I really want to improve my armor crafting, and explanations on the mathare great.

What kinetic % do your layers need to be to hit 80% Kinetic? The answer is that if you know what you're doing and you have the right resources the Kinetic resist on your layers could be anywhere between 4% and 15% (theoretical max) and you can hit 80% Kinetic at final combine.
The real question is what type of 80% Kinetic Armor do you wish to make? Are you looking to make high base armor with 80% Kinetic resist and high HAM cost or are you looking to make much lighter armor with 80% Kinetic resist and base between 57-62%?
