Thread: What Kinetic % do i need my layers to be to get the protection to 80%

Basically I have been collecting resourses for armorsmith since I started the profession about 6 months ago. I finally got all the stuff I need to make composite, and I can't come close to the 80% kinetic I feel is necessary to sell it. Anyways I was just wondering what % of base and kinetic are your typical kinetic layers. Let me know thanks,

Okay this may confuse you a little, but hopefull I wont.....


First make a regular non-layered composite segment, then make a set of gloves. Note the base resists.....


Lets just say that you get a 50% base on your gloves.


Okay now for layers. In order to get 80% kinetic, if you have 50% base you need at least 30% to get there right ?


So typically alot of armorsmiths will use 3 layers to get that 80% kinetic. Say for instance you get a 10% kinetic layer, with a 2% base and you use 3 in your segment, the math more or less works out like this.


50% Base + (3 Layers x 2% Base) = 56% Base


So now your kinetic resists will sorta add on top of the base.


So if your base is 56% with 3 layers, then you only need 24% total kinetic resists in your layers to get 80%. Now keeping in mind we experimented our layers to 10%, if we times taht by 3, we get 30% kinetic, resists... so..


50% Base + (3 Layers x 2% Base) = 56% Base + 30% Kinetic resists = 80%+ Kinetic Resists.


(Resists cap at 80% on composite when crafting)


The thing to remember is that when you add kinetic layers, the final kinetic resist is going to be whatever the total kinetic resists are of your layers, added on top of whatever your base % is going to be. Not that kinetic adds to base, it only uses the base as a "starting point" to calculate the final kinetic resist. You'll notice notice stun armor for example is quite a bit lower in resists than all the others. This is because it specifically does not include the base % as a function of it's final resists outcome. So you only get the actual combined stated resists of the stun layers.


Obviously layers have they're own base resists % as well as they're special effect. This plays a role, as the higher the base% on your layers, then less special effect you need on them.


Typically I think all of us go for at a minimum 4% Base on our layers, then max out the special resist as much as possible. For kinetic in particular most people recommend what they call the "4x4".... Which is a kinetic layer experimented to have 4% Base, and 4% kinetic resists. Multiply that by 3 (because comp takes 3 layers) and you get 12% Base, and 12% Kinetic. So now back to our example.....


50% Base (ourtypical unlayered segment)+ combined 12% Base from layers = 62% Base (this leaves us only needing another 18% of kinetic to hit 80% Kinetic)


Now we only have 12% kinetic in our layers, but in my experience you can usually get that extra 1 - 2% during the combine experimenting durability a point or two.If not, then it's not usually too hard to up the kinetic resists a litlte higher than 4. Ultimately it all depends on your resources, but I think alot of us have been in it long enough where 4x4 layers is plenty kinetic resists to get us 80% while maximizing base resists.

are there any comparisons to padded armor possible? can i do the math exactly the same way?

OMG - my head hurts :-P


Here's what I do:

1) Make 7% kinetic layers (about 3 exper pts.), and dump the rest into HAM cost (7 exper. pts.) to get the HAM around 6/6/6.

2) Make adv. composite segments, max the base to 25%, and dump the rest into HAM cost.

3) Make pieces, using 8-9 pts. on the base increase; been using Bespin Port to try and save a point. This gets my base stats to mid-to-high 50's, with about 74-75% kinetic special. The last 1-2 points go into HAM cost, which also bumps the special resists up 5%, and I get my 80% kinetic.


Using these methods and resources, I built for sale on my vendor composite armor that is:

80% kinetic

65% electric

57% base resists


I had previously been under the notion that I had to make 13% kinetic layers to get 80% kinetic composite. Now I still have 80%, and much lighter suits.

As far as I know it works the same on padded. Personally I've never bothered with padded though.

real simple...two layers of kinetic at these values will get you to 80% special protection:

2% base and 13% special. What you use for your 3rd layer is up to you....

If you want to make high kinetic padded armor, the following procedure may be helpful:


Make two kinetic layers with experimental resistance maxed and remaining points in durability or quality for lighter armor or better base resists. (Personally, I use 14% kinetic/2% base resist layers)


Make padded segments with experimental quality maxed and remaining points into durability. (This gives me 28% kinetic/20% base segments)


Make armor with again experimental quality maxed and remaining points into durability. (Gives me 74% kinetic/45% base armor).


So, padded is similar to composite with respect to where you put your points for the segments and armor, but ittakes high kinetic layers for the highest kinetic resist in your armor.

/whew! Thank GOD for this Post!


I was begining to panic because my unlayered gloves were 55% base. I was begining to think all my hard work harvesting the best materials was for not. But after reading KnightHawks reply, I realize that i can get a potential 65% base with layers!

Actually I think it is kinda like this:


If the kinetic resist of your layer is Klayer and the base resist is Blayer, then the following holds for a three-layered segment:


Blayer = 0.04 x %quality +1%

and

Klayer = 0.14 x %resistance + 1%

where %quality and %resistance are the percentages to which you experiment quality and resistance.


For the segment:


Bsegment = 3 x Blayer + 0.24 x %quality +1%,

where Bsegment is the base resist of the segment and %quality is the percentage to which you experimented your quality.


and


Ksegment = 3 x Klayer

where Ksegment is the kinetic resist of your segment.


Similarly, for armor:


Barmor = Bsegment + 0.39 x %quality +1%


and


Karmor = Bsegment+ 0.39 x %quality +1% + Ksegment (= Barmor + Ksegment)


Example:

Suppose you experiment kinetic layers to 93% quality and 26% resistance, then:

Blayer = 0.04 x 93% + 1% = 4.72%

and

Klayer = 0.14 x 26% + 1% = 4.64%

Note that decimals are important!


Suppose also that you experiment the quality of your segment to 82%, then:

Bsegment = 3 x 4.72% + 0.24 x 82% + 1% = 34.8%

and

Ksegment = 3 x 4.67% = 14.0%


Now if we experiment the quality of the armor to say 91%, we get:

Barmor = 34.8% + 0.39 x 91% + 1% = 71%

and

Karmor = 34.8% + 0.39 x 91% + 1% + 14.0% = 85% (cap is 80% though).


Note that these results may be off a percent. The formulas were obtained experimentally.

Wow, excellent post. It is very interesting to learn the math behind this, and be able to calculate resists as opposed to just guessing and hoping it works out.

As someone with a full undertading of the above posts. Anyone have a formula, of how the base on padded is pulled up, and then also the special, when the durability is experimemnted?


I dont really care why, cuz I know how to kinda to the math, i.e., guestimate.


The thing is im sure a new AS when they see this will be like **edit**?
