Thread: PETITION FOR RIS ARMOR TO BE BETTER

The boots in question are actually mine.

In them we used 2 x 14% NS layers and a 3% NS layer (with -37 action). We also used a 5% yellow power cube and NS shards that had like -13/-20/-24 stats.

To make an ideal RIS armor piece you really would need layers/options totaling about 40% and a nice set of shards to reduce encumbrance.

To those that don't get it, the point of the boots is their encumbrance. You need to look at what I made. Lets rule out the chest piece and helmet for this conversation. For the other 7 pieces most people either dont wear the armor, or certainly don't wear stun composite. Think about what a rifleman wants in his armor (0 mind cost).

Sure you can rattle off every stun/acid weapon in the game, but unless your in a one-on-one dual some are not practical.

For instance, I dont think you will see commandos with the acid rifle in group pvp.

The stun can be ruled out as a factor since composite is the same (secondary pieces we are talking about). The real valid items are the acid pistols/rifles, but since those hit random pieces and pools with their strongest attacks, and since they are not likely to be used as often as stun weapons, you are really not much worse off with RIS than anything else. The biggest difference is you are wearing good armor with no encumbrance.

Now if someone in group pvp recognizes you in RIS, thinks "aha!" acid vulnerable, and switches weapons for it, maybe you would be screwed. At the same time the other 10 people who are 80% resists (at worst) to acid proceed to pummel him.

Do I wish that the stun/acid was patched up? You bet. The point is the armor still has its place though if you are creative and have good loot to make it with.

Also keep in mind I only used 5 items to make the boots. Composite would take like 18 items (matching serial number segments needed + schematic use).

I suppose, also, that you could sacrifice the base a bit, and mix pieces having either triple acid or triple stun, or even 2/1 and develop a kind of coin toss scenario every time you get hit with an acid or stun weapon. I haven't given up on RIS yet. I think that the layer should be where the devs make the improvement if any is to be made. In the mean time, I intend to craft a full suit of RIS for the purposes of experimentation in pvp. Why not? This is the only way we can find out for sure. Keep posting with your thoughts, I enjoy hearing them. Sorry if I seem argumentative, I'm just a bit upset that people want to make it easier. It really shouldn't be easier. The hard is what makes it great.

BTW: the interwoven RIS schematic drops from the Acklay in the geonosian cave. Same place you got the interwoven bone schematic. Its a 5 use schematic and worth th trouble involved with getting one. I bought one from a pretty stand-up guy for 1.5 million. Could be more or less depending on server and all. (Bloodfin is costly)

I have 3 pieces of Interwoveon RIS and 2 pieces of standard RIS on the Chilastra server. The differences are not that dramatic. They beefed up the %s quite a bit after Publish 6.

I'll have Interwoven boots and gloves made up if I can find another Interwoven schematic...

I just suplied the pic from another post, it's not my item, wish it was since I'm a rarity collector who can start a whole museum by now ! To show you that people who always say RIS is stuck at 50% are wrong.

Just reduce the vunerability to 1 thing and make it medium armor. Done, and done.

Oh, and just make the kimo drop a little easier...

I've always liked the medium armor idea too

The medium armor idea is probably the easiest way for this armor to be protective enough to warrant the cost. Also probably a nice way of making the armor into something even more unique than it already is. Not sure a lot of players understand the difference between light, medium, and heavy armor, but hopefully they would take our (armorsmith's) word that medium armor is better when compared to light armor, even in some cases where the protections are lower.

We dont need better armour. High end composite has already removed most of the actual skill from the combat. Melee fights are already ridiculously long and normally won by which ever side happens to have a friendly rifleman passing by and that is only because there IS much less protection against stun than other damage types.

Personally I would rather see them fix RIS and make it comparable to high end composite, but also make it wearable only by Master Armoursmiths.

"but also make it wearable only by Master Armoursmiths."

What would the point of that be? Then it would still be just a display/show piece.

The whole point of this thread was to encourage the devs to make RIS like high end composite. As of right now it is not simply because of the dual vulnerabilities. The protections would basically be the same, but the encumberance would be lower which means more specials, and overall, a more enriched battle experience. Imagine a suit of great composite that you could put on without buffs, without taking brandy or muon, and without ridiculously migrating your HAM.

I say keep the stun vulnerability and take out the acid, but both of them together are tootricky to work with. Not sure what you mean by"fix RIS"unless you meanwhat I just said.

Not seeing the point of making it master armorsmith only. Maybe so that armorsmiths with a combat class can actually have some sort of chance in pvp? Seems kinda silly if you ask me though. Not many armorsmiths do a lot of combat pvp or otherwise. Some hunt their hides and a few gather their own RIS loots and such, but they're few and far between.

Make it with no vulnarabilityies since there will be a fix comeing for shifting stats in patch 8 (WOW only took 11 months to fix???)

As some one said earlyer.. screw makeing it easier... make it BETTER PERIOD!!!

No vuln.and put like something not too functional in special.. like electricity like comp.. that way you can pump the base eff through the moon!! I mean look at the RIS layer, it only effects the effectivness. I mean you can have some sick armor hear devs...

2RIS layers cranced to about 6%+ base 1/1/1 (or 0/0/0 with sweet resources) that means you could hit 70%+ base eff unsliced.. now eff slice it.. w00t 90% to EVERYTHING but elec. or what ever...
Now THAT would be worth my time to make it... pffft!!! 2 vulnarabilities.... low base eff. bah!! waist of my time!!!
