Thread: PETITION FOR RIS ARMOR TO BE BETTER

Iwould like to start a petition to make RIS better. To hell with making it easier. This armor is hard to make, but not impossible. Keep the difficulty and make it better.

What I would like to see is either stun or acid protection added as a part of the base protections. For you armorsmiths that have yet to craft this armor, it has base stats of energy, restraint, electricity, heat, cold, and blast. It also has kinetic as an innate special protection. As it stands the new interwoven RIS armor has the potential to have base and special protections as high as composite with substantially lighter encumberance. But the issue that brings this armor down is its vulnerabilities to both stun and acid. This makes the armor perpetually unworthy for pvp (in other words, decorative). It is possible to do a half-assed job of layering/enhancing out these vulnerabilities, but just to do a half-assed job requires more additional loot like nightsister layers/shards, janta hides, rancor hides, or really wicked krayt scales (I saw some with 32% acid once).

Solution #1: exchange the acid vulnerability or the stun vulnerability (in my dreams) with the restraint base resistance. Its really nice of the developers to give us this big stack of resistances in a nice light encumberance package, but they give us this completely useless resistance (restraint) and then expect us to deal with 2 very exploitable vulnerabilities with 2-3 layer slots.

Solution #2: Keep the vulnerabilities and make the RIS layer do something useful. This layer is total joke. I have pretty decent materials and the best I can do with it is get a 4% base increase with some single digit encumberances. That is a lesser base increase than most nightsister layers not to mention that nightsister layers have NEGATIVE encumberance. I propose that the RIS layer, instead of increasing the base, be a dual protective layer for both acid and stun and give the layer the potential to come out to like 30% stun/30% acid. Let them change the ingredients if they need to, but give this poor layer some actual purpose. That way you would have a reason to use the layer in the RIS. I wouldn't take peko albatross feathers if you offered them to me for free! That's how worthless this layer is right now.

Armor that requires this much loot should be better. If you make it easier to craft, you make it into more of a joke.

I think the quality is great, its the ease of getting the materials. I think you can make stun layers for it if you want to add stun or add heat layers to fix that problem.

So I'm going to have to disagree

I think if the Kimo drop was twice as hard as any other drop we would be ok.

One piece would cost millions to buy the materials or take you a week to gather. I think it would be a great quest for any combat character.

Take my word for it unless you've crafted one yourself.

There is no possible way to effectively layer out 2 weaknesses with only 2-3 layer slots. Composite only has one weakness and people can barely compensate for that. The best stun composite I've seen had 40% stun. That is superb for what it is, but when you think about it, that armor still has a weakness to stun that exceeds 50%. Now imagine trying to layer out 2 weaknesses with, at most, the same amount of layer slots (you only get 3 layers with interwoven segments). The most you can hope for is like 27% on one weakness and 13% on another and that's with high quality layers. Plus your encumberance will skyrocket with all those layers so the armor still blows.

I just want this armor to be useable in pvp. If you make it easier to craft, then what would be the point of making it? ITS NOT AS GOOD AS COMPOSITE!!! Yet, as inferior as it is, you can still sell a piece for 4-10 million simply because it is rare. By making it easier to craft, you make it less rare which will substantially lower the value of it. Right now there 2 big reasons that anyone would craft RIS.

Reason 1. Just to say that you accomplished the near impossible.
Reason 2. To sell (or keep) it as a rare colletor's piece and make tall stacks of creds (or get props from your buddies) because it is valuable in its rareness.

If you make it easier to craft, these two reasons will vanish. It will no longer be near impossible to do and it will no longer be valuable.
However, if you keep the drop rates and make it better armor, you will keep these 2 reasons and add a third.

Reason 3: So that you or your customer can use it in pvp and be the untouchable badass of the battle.

Making it better instead of easier will make it MORE valuable. If its so hard to make, then why is it that so many people have made it? You've never seen the RIS because nobody brings it out of their house. They're afraid that they'll die with it and it will decay. I'll wager that on any given server, there are over 20 pieces of RIS floating around somewhere. That is how it should be. Its only great right now because its rare. If you take that away, this armor will just be another washed up, useless armor type that nobody makes or uses.

Simple solution to this problem: Make it the only MEDIUM Armor

Yeah thatcould be a very simple and effective solution as well. Then even the half-assed layering out of the vulnerebilities would be that much better, because a 13% and a 26% on them would be 25% more effective then it would as light armor against lesser armor piercing attacks and 50% less uneffective against greater armor piecing attacks. There may be difficulty becausethe developers may need to impliment a new dmg calculator for players with this armor type. you porbably know that as of right now, all personal armor is rated light armor and, consequently, all players are subject to dmg calculations pertaining to either no armor rating, or light armor rating. Medium armor dmg calculators may not yet be implimented for players which would make this solution less simple than it appears.

Maybe I'm wrong, but answer me this: if anyone could make it, what would be the point of making it? The armor isn't very good and itwould be almost impossible to factory produce. Is it because it looks cool? Tantel looks cool, but I don't see anybody making it. Just tell me so that I can understand what kind of purpose this armor would have if not to be THE ARMOR that nobody can make.

Check the low HAM as well. I think RIS can be the best if made well... Maybe even outbest Composite, at least for melee fighters....

The low encumbrance is nice, but you'll get eaten alive by anyone using any of the following...

  1. Jawa Ion Rifle

  2. DXR-6b Rifle

  3. DX-2 Pistol

  4. Scatter Pistol

  5. Geonosian Sonic Pistol

  6. DXR-6 Carbine

  7. Nym Slugthrower

  8. Stun Baton

  9. Heavy Acid Rifle

Basically, as it stands right now, RIS's use in PvP is almost non-exsistant. Is low encumrbance is nice, but for the cost of just one piece of RIS you could easily buy enough high quality nightsister layers and shards to put together one very low encum suit of composite. (Not to mention that for melee fighters, you can get 90% kinetic composite while the best you can ever get with RIS is 80%.) Here's the steps I would take to fix RIS...

  1. Increase the spawn rate around Lok for the GDK. I'm guessing that if the devs actually did some research into who's already crafted RIS, I think they'd find that almost all of it was crafted using GDK scales that were farmed at the one static spawn prior to the massive increase in Kimogila HAM.

  2. Have the Woolymander Harrowers spawn at more locations than just that one spot in the wollymander temple. Like with the GDK is pretty half-assed to just have to go camp a single static spawn over and over to get the one item you need.

  3. Give RIS only a single vulnerability. It doesn't really matter what that vulnerability is, it just matters that there's only one.

  4. Make sure that experimentation on RIS's base resists raises is special protection in the same way that it does on composite.

If the above four things were done, RIS would actually be a sought after and used type of armor, plus it would help break up the monotony of composite.

Nice 80% base there, Bishop, but the vulnerabilities are the point I'm trying to highlight. What good is that helm whether its base is 80% or 20%? Its either the most expensive PvE halmet on the market, or an item to buy as a collector, or sell to a collector. Try making RIS armor that can actually be used.

How did you get an 80% base? Ive only seen like 30% bases. Is this a Interwoven RIS armor piece? What server?

I know the guy that made that piece. His name is Tuanga, and I'm suprised he hasn't put his 2 cents into this thread. He is on the Bloodfin server. This is interwoven, I'm pretty sure, and likely stacked full of good nightsister layers and a good yellow cube. I hear he likes to use a nightsister shard to enhance, but if I had the choice, I would use good janta hide.

So how did he get an Interwoven RIS armor Schematic? I have a Interwoven Bone Armor Schematioc and in the little descitpion isay that you learn more about Bone Armor from studying the Aclay's bones. Ask him how he got it.
