Yes, please do. Slicing armor would make it last LONGER if anything. Not sure about weapons, but armor should last longer or the same about of hits if it is sliced as opposed to unsliced.

This is what I read, I'd feel better if it was from the Smuggler Correspondant though. I also think I read it in one of the SWG books also, I think the Advanced Game Guide.

I do notice though that I go through armor a lot quicker on sliced pieces than non-sliced.

quote from swgcenter.com fastest place i could find it. i know i have also seen it on station boards some where but here it is clear as day the penalty for slicing anything but terminals is faster decay plain and simple

What does Slicing do to my weapon?

Sliced weapons get approx. a 5-35% permanent increase in damage(min AND max)OR a 5-35% faster weapon when successfully sliced.

The more skilled the Slicer, the better return you'll see. (See the average results below) The weapon is still able to be used with power-ups and repairable as normal.

A sliced weapon will decay faster, but not horribly faster.

If you slice a weapon with a powerup attached, the powerup is automatically removed (and destroyed) before the slice is performed.

If you slice an insured item, it will need re-insuring.

What does Slicing do to my armor?

Slicing armor increases the effectiveness 5-35% OR it decreases the encumbrance by 5-45%. The more skilled the Slicer, the better return you'll see. (See the average results below)

Each piece is sliced separately.

Sliced armor is repairable as normal.

The condition is lost at an increased rate, but not too much.

If you slice an insured piece of armor, it will need re-insuring.

yeah, i read that same thing. doesn't convince me that it's true since they don't have actual numbers. smuggler is one of the most unclear professions, so unless they have numbers saying that sliced armor decays faster than unsliced, i'm not going to give it any credit.

however, the skill description for Slicing II says that sliced weapons will decay faster than "their stock counterparts," so there is a chance that it affects armor too (although there is nothing about decay in the Slicing III description).

i guess since no one wants to test it, i'll make some unsliced boots and take a few hits. sliced armor loses condition equal to 20% of the damage that gets through the armor when it deflects damage (if you're hit for 1000, and the armor stops 500 damage, the armor loses 100 condition).

To tell you the truth, I don't think anyone has ever actually tested this. The way I would go about it myself would be to turn on chat logging, put on a suit that had been sliced to, say, 65% and have something attack me twenty or thirty times. Then I'd pull the text from the chat log, paste it into Excel, add up all the damage that I suffered, compare the damage received to the deterioration of the armor and calculate the decay rate per point of damage suffered. Then I'd repeat the process with a piece of unsliced 65% armor. Note that for this to work the resists on both the unsliced and the sliced armor have to be the same. Hmm, actually maybe I'll give this a try later.

In my tests, there was no difference in decay rate.

Awesome, Jaato. Post your results asap after you do your testing. If you prove me wrong that I think sliced armor decays faster (and I hope you do), it'll give me a reason to get my armor sliced.
