I honestly was not trying to ridecule, that is not my way. I was simply stating, that if you wanted armor that was sliced for effectiveness only I think that electric would be the way to go. The reason I made up the 3 X 80 suit was so the customer was sure to get 80% in kinetic and energy for PvE purposes.

Gotcha, same thing here but I knew it had to be a heavy suit anyway so the reasoning was to go ahead and give the customer as much protection as possible, regardless of the slice. The buyers absolutely love these things.

perhaps im just a stupid WS but isent it better to make cold/elec special and then be able to slice everything else to 90%...

Electric or stun are the best choices since both will be special protections in composite armor no matter what. Another good choice for high base composite are cold layers since there is only one seldom used cold based weapon (SG82) which also happens to be AP0 so damage from it is going to be minimal anyway.

Blast on the otherhand is the damage type used by power hammers and is the main part of the swordsman arsenal. Factor in that swordsmen are fairly common and that power hammers are AP2, I find that using blast layers isn't the best choice for the creation of high base armor.

Yeah I'd think the point of this armor would be to get an enc slice while having high kin/energy, otherwise juse make high base armor, and use a less useful layer like Blast to get the base up so energu and kin can slice to 90.

But the unsliced HAM on a suit that was 80/80/80/70 base would have to be at least 700, if not 800. Even with enc slices, that isn't going to be light enough to wear unbuffed, or light enough where you could not use a full complement of food buffs and get away with it. For the same or less HAM you could have a suit that was 70% base with elec layers, so they could slice above 80 to all resists, including kinetic and energy, if not 90 to all.

Am I just missing the point?

No, I don't "wonder why" they did it. I still hold the opinion that having high base and putting 2 of the common damage types up into special protections isn't all that spiffy.

Also, I mistargetted the post I meant to quote recommending blast layers for high base armor...that's more to whome it was directed at.

Some armorsmiths seem truly clueless as to what a combatant needs.

There are 2 schools of thought with armor. One is "I want low encums without sacrificing resists too much" (typically a PvE mentallity)and the other is "I'll deal with the heavy encum as long as the base is as high as possible" (both PvE and PvP, although PvP generally requires stun).

One school is best served by layered armor. You get kinetic/energy/whatever to 80% or thereabouts, and devote the rest of your experimentation to lowering encumberance. This way they still have excellent protection to whatever form of damage they're taking, but the suit is as light as possible.

The other school is best served by keeping all the resists in base effect, so they can be sliced past 80. Why on earth would you want heavy 80% kinetic armor, when you could wear heavy 90% kinetic armor with the same weight? You don't. If your priority is 80% kinetic with an encum slice, you aren't too concerned with the non-kinetic resists. If your priority is a high base, then you want kinetic in that base so it can get past the 80% special protection cap.

80% kinetic and 70% base gives the worst of both worlds. Heavy encums, yet the most important resist is capped at letting through twice as much damage as it would at 90%.I'm sure you sell...some....after all most customers know less about armor than you do.

I'm kinda of glad you live next door to me Booozark that why i can price compare with ya. i think you have your suits priced nicely keep up
the stellar work! i was selling a suit with elect 80 3 electrical layers and 69 base (damn that wooly) for 450k a suit. but if your doing well with 80/80/80 i might tweak them up a bit

You could do 3 stun layers with 4.5 or so base and get a +13.5 to your base and if you have say a 58% unlayered base you could have 71% base with some stun protection. IF you have the resources for it. This is what I've been doing lately. It's heavy but everyone buffs these days.

That is why I make 37% Stun/80% Electric/66% Base comp and slice it up over 80%. Usable in all circumstances.

First complete RIS set made for myself on Aug 1, 2004 with stats of approx 75% Kinetic/4% Stun/5% Acid/65% Base/vuln to Lightsaber. (unsliced)
