Its the same argument for tailors then. No, they really wouldnt want a tailor dye kit. Otherwise it really kinda takes them out of the game, and the personal feel for their profession.

The comparison between armorsmiths and tailors doesn't really hold. Tailoring is, by and large, a social crafting profession dependent on customer interaction and specific orders. Their products are only differentiated by their color choices and through working with clients.
Armorsmithing, on the other hand, is a profession that is entirely reliant on factory production (and thus easily fitsthe mass-production model) as it is a high-demand, consumable product that is differentiated by its stats through resource quality, armorsmith experimentation, and production choices. People buy armor for the protection and stats, not for the looks. Allowing the customer to color the armor post-production is the most beneficial way to handle this.
