Yes, it works. I am normally rebel, but went Imperial for a few dyas to complete a few quests. I decided to get the armor schematics while I was at it. I had to pay a bit more due to the alien penalty, but I did purchase them all.

Rank only affects how much faction you can hold and the penalty you suffer when delegating to someone else. So, be sure a colonel delegates to you.

As an Imperial combatant, I was able to craft all three types of Imperial armor and the two Rebel types that I had schem uses left on without a problem.

The thing that does affect the cost of the schematics is the civil war score on the planet where you buy them. For example:

As an imperial zabrak on a planet where the score was Imperial 350ish Rebel 0, I paid 19k for each set of armor schems, or 57k faction overall. Additionally, I paid a chunk to get up to 2nd Lt. to hold all of that faction as a courtesy to the smuggler, so he would not have to stand next to me and delegate incrementally as I bought the schematics. If I had been human, the cost would have been about 13k per suit instead.

As a rebel on a planet where the score was about Imperial 100 Rebel 500, I paid approximately 13k faction per suit. On a planet where the Empire had a sizable lead, I saw schematics selling for about 5x that cost.
I hope that helps

Are you 100% sure about that?

Positive, after changing sides 3 times to do theme parks/quests with a master smuggler i remember having to work off positive faction before i could buy anything at all. I also asked in the smuggler forums and they confirmed it. It can be -1 as long as it's negative.

Are you sure it can't be zero. I was buying Imp faction, and i'm pretty sure I was at zero reb faction.

when you leave a side, your faction is set to zero for them.

I belive this whole situation is thoeretical.... anyways, unless these chematics work different than all others the answer would be yes you can craft imp armor as a reb and vice-verse.... My AS/WS used to be an architect, during that time, I learned plenty of Painting schematics that require a specifi skill to learn. Since I dropped it, I still have them in my data pad and I can still craft them if I choose.

I think the faction restriction is simply to get the schematic... so Yes theoreticly IF you decided to spend millions on faction to rank up enough to hold the faction needed for 1 schematic at a time, it should work just fine.
