I'm not sure I agree 100% with the way they sort of dumbed down armor crafting, butthe resistancesdefinitely needed to be brought down a notch. People will still want it and you can still craft it. They're not trying to edge you out of the game. Players who spent their time and money making armor can continue to do so, only now there are many more types to make (that will actually sell) instead of simply different types of composite.
80% everything armor its useable with buffs and food. right now fully buffed, food, 90% armor range 3 mig and melee 3 mig you are all powerful. all the devs can do is add more resist and ham to a mob, or give them dizzy/kd and the undefendable force choke. people just have to outlast them.

No I dont remeber what P vs E was like...I'm new. However, U have all made very valid points. I have noticed these inherent supernatural flaws since about the 5th day of playing. Buffs need to be adjusted down and one should not be able to stack brandy effects. The other day on Dantooine I was buff'd, I stacked Brandy and UnarmedCombo 2 was only draining 2 pts from mind pool...makes it to easy, I was taking on packs of Voritor trackers and only wearing Wook ceremonial armor.
You know what the real problem is player self-regulation. If people weren't whoring out uber buffs, armor etc. there would be no reason to revamp.

Yup
I remember those times, that was when I took my armor set to my local smuggler and prayed for ham slices
My ranger/tka quite often fights unbuffed on some of the adventure planets for fun and the challange, its just not as efficient if I want to pull in alot of hide quickly

How is that different than making armor resist less? Your armor will still be just as useful, it just won't block an unreasonable amount of damage. 80% is unreasonable. I would rather not have mobs with HAM that is many times what we have to balance it out. They could just give the mobs the same type of armor as the players... It doesn't really matter whether you think it was buffs, brandy, armor or what. It was all out of whack.

Combat was broken before uber armor and bufs. The flaws realy became aperant when those 2 factors became a comon place.
And another thing players dont "whore" those uber items, when you are master of your prof you thend to like to make the best stuff that you can.

Uber is really the result of a series of things;
1. Buffs
2. Uber Armor via resource hoarding
3. Uber weapons via resource hoarding
4. Imbalanced new weapons
5. Overly simplistic cert system
and #6, and most importantly, the impossible pressure that players put onto crafters to make the best. They set up a game where making average components was unprofitable, but making the best was lucrative. Naturally, everyone chased after the big bucks and here we are.
The devs simply underestimated the crafting base's ingenuity in working out maximized products.
I disagree the mitigation was a big factor in combat uberness. It was a small factor, but nothing like 80% armor and +2000 buffs.

Tanking a krayt without melee migitation is a hard task even with 80% kin comp and uber buffs. For swordsman it is often what kept you alive long enough to do it

I don't remember armor, I've always been a wookiee. A BH wookiee. When NPC's did specials. Before we had armor. Before buffs were worthwhile. Before vehicles, walking across whole planets to get your mark. With the weapons we used to have near release (think half, or less of what you have now)........LOL
Nothing says "@(#*" Like walking to the oppisite side of lok, and being one-shotted by a 4k damage special from a 10k ham, 80% resist, medium armor demon strait from the depths of hell. While unbuffed, unarmored, and only some tat sunburn, fishtak (sp?) surprise, and some nuron pixie to help me stay alive.
To be honest, it was more fun to lose sometimes.

Hehe, I canthink ofa fewthings that were worse... or at the least... were equally frustrating
1). Walking to theopposite side of Lok... and never finding any 10k ham, 80% resist, medium armor demon strait from the depths of hell...
2). Walking to the opposite side of Lok... and finding a 10k ham, 80% resist, medium armor demon strait from the depths of hell, but he's a white dot on my radar.
3). Walking to the opposite side of Lok... and finding a 10k ham, 80% resist, medium armor demon strait from the depths of hell, killing him, and realizing that I'll have to do this 6 hours a day, 7 days a week, for 2 full months to make master.

There was such an easy way to fix combat - I will never understand why they messed it up in the way they did....
Buffs were over powered - OK nurf then to 33% of what they were
Armor was overpowered - mainly the 90% base sliced stuf... cap the slice to 80% - base should never be higher than special. Also without the uber buffs people will not want to ware super high enc armor.
Speed caps were over powered - revamp the speed clac to a linear scale - not the silly exponential where at 100 speed you would cap anything
Dots are over powered - the devs went 50% there with the removal of -1 dots... Next they just need to tweek the loot drop so no more uber ones come out.
Combat sorted - everyone would have been happy....

To put the blame soely on mitigation/toughness or soely on buffs or soely on armor is ignorant. It's not one of those that brought imbalance, it was the culmination of all of them. I do remember what made player uber in PvE, it was armor combined with mitigation and toughness combined with buffs.
Your krayt example is flawed because you are giving the impression that it's the toughness that is doing all the work. If you send an unarmored, buffed TKA against a krayt dragon, he won't last more than 20 seconds. However, even you said that an armored, buffed crafter, who lacks toughness can last 5-7 minutes against a krayt. If you ask me, that makes the armor more overpowered than the toughness. Combine the fact that armor (CURRENTLY) can be worn by anyone who has buffs, it just makes it that much better.
Again, it's when you combine all 3 on one player that you get the players with god-mode in PvE. However, armor has the biggest effect.

You can now imagine why PSGs remained bugged all this time. Can you imagine having Damage Mitigation, PSG, and 80% Armor?
Also consider this, if you were to wear 30% composite armor. That is 50% damage reduction (Light armor) and an additional 30% resistance. That comes out to 65% damage reducing composite armor. 50+15 (15% = 30% of the already halfed damage).
80% composite was actually 90% damage reduction.
70% composite was actually 85%
60% actual 80%
10% actual 55%
PSGs functioned in the same way. (when they worked) Only, that PSGs reduced the damage before it even hit the Armor.
Armor wasn't actually broken. It was controled by encumberance.Defence in general is broken because you can stack so much defence with a simple buff.
90% of the players never understood armor and they still don't. If you hunt animals that do Kinetic and buy a set of 80% Kinetic Composite armor for 350k. You are buying 90% Kinetic damage reduction. If you buy a70% Ubese Armor suit for 125k, you have purchased 85% Kinetic Damage reduction. I can make 65% Kinetic Chitin, or even 45% Kinetic Mabari.
This is a moot subject though. Players are going to have to deal with a whole new set of rules. Rules they never really bothered to learn in the first place. No more buying great armor at a great price. You either buy the Uber KraytArmor for 20-100 million credits. Or you buy the run of the mill (standard) Armor that all smiths canproduce. There will be a flavor that everone will want. MAX Kinetic and Energy resists. If you can't make the golden Kinetic/Energy standard, no one will buy your stuff. It will all be the same again, just the profession will be reduced to point that any 1st grader can make it.
