Thread: Summery of Armorsmith issues with the new CU system
Wow, where to start. I have never been a credit hog as an armorsmith, most expensive set of composite I have ever sold was for 150k for a full set. It wasn't about the money but doing something fun. I never massed produced armor, it was always on an as needed basis. Yet I can't even realistically do that now. My character is a non-combatant, no combat skills period. I used my combatant to gather what hides I needed, I didn't play around with tapes, and took special drops as they came along. That is all out the window now. All of the special drops I had are worthless. The resources I had are sorely lacking even for making just a few suits of anything. I can't log on my AS to make a customer a set of armor unless I want to A: spend all day doing it, or B: Take up so much space ina building stockpiling all of the specific parts that I can't even put a chair in it. What was the whole point of this exercise? I understood the desire to get people to wear different armor. Great, nice idea. I understood the desire to change how armor works. Great, nice idea. I don't understand why they had to make AS such an unbalanced crafting endeavour compared to other crafters. Unless you don't want anyone to wear armor in combat after what they currently have (if they can even still wear it) breaks. Oh, and why do I even have experimentation points now? I need a dropped "appearance" segment to even make my armor have an original appearance. Why? Get real please, I understand trying to make the combat more appealing, but you would have been better off making things like your quests more linear and inter-related. And doable without needing and EQ style raid to do without anything appreciable as a reward after you complete it. Getting rid of the bugs you had, etc.. If you wanted different armor to be worn to give the game a more "personal" touch, you should have offered more types of armors that had the same basic stats, like clothing. Someone seems to have way over-thought this one and missed the point. Btw, the days of the neutral armorsmith seem to be over too if you intend on supplying any of the faction armors. and talk about some ridiculous faction costs
Contrary to the Dev's apparent beliefs, most crafters are not a crafting/fighter combo. We players tend to do one and make another account to do the other. I would think that would make you happy since it means more money in Sony's pocket. I would much rather do some awesome starwars oriented quests, like the themeparks (don't know why you just stopped there for that type of thing) rather than have my combatant on a constant search for drops and resources for my armorsmith, so my armorsmith can make him one (1) set of armor should he need a replacement. Talk about grind/boring. Why don't you just make armorsmithing a no skillpoint type profession like politician or pilot so we can all quit wasting our time, sinceit seems theidea is to put the ones who actually do it as a way to make credits out of business. It's even harder on those of who don't since we don't have the capital to start over; appearantly the dev's didn't think about that, or even bother to ask the armorsmiths what they thought. Thanks, great customer service there.
I havea lot more I could say, and probably could have made my comments more flowing, but just did a good look at the requirements to make a set of Ceremonial Armor. Needless to say I was more than a bit dismayed. Was hoping that I was just not seeing something obvious and that AS really wasn't shafted the way it appears to have been. After reading the replies before mine, it became fairly obvious that it has been.

Dude, that hurt my eyes trying to read it. If your saying the new system stinks, I agree with you 100%. But please, for my eyes and others, use paragraphs.

The problem with this analogy is that I will have more credits from this. Because with the shear cost of goods and materials, prices on armor are going to go through the roof. They have already started.

HERES THE ANSWER FOR THE ARMORSMITH AND DOCTOR NERF
THE DEVS INTENION FOR NERFING THESE PROFESSIONS IS VERY SIMPLE.
THESE PROFESSIONS GENERATED TO MUCH CASH WHICH IN TURN WAS AND IS BEING SOLD TO SITES FOR RESALE AND ON EBAY. I GUESS THEY THOUGHT THAT LESS PROFIT WOULD TAKE CARE OF THE RESALEING. BUT I BELIEVE WILL ONLY DRIVE THE COST OF RESALE HIGHER DUE TO LESS OF IT NOW. IT ALSO MAKES IT ALMOST INSANE TO BECOME A NEW ARMORSMITH DUE TO THE HIGH AMOUNTS OF RESOURCES NEEDED AND FINALLY THE COST OF ARMOR WILL DETER PEOPLE FROM WANTING TO PLAY THIS GAME FOR AN EXTENDED TIME ie.(BURN OUT).
Sure prices will skyrocket but unless you have your own Ranger you will have to pay more for resourcesand then jack up the price thats obvious, but you have to stop and think ...how much time will it take for the average joe to accumulate enough credits to buy a good suit of armor and then replace it when it breaks....hence "hyper inflation"
Enough Said
i used to be an armor smith and i dropped it to go doc. boy am i glad i did.
btw, logged in tonight and did a search for an armorsmith on every player city planet, no surprise.....not a single oneonline (or they all had thier "make my character searchable" box unchecked).
pathetic.

seriously.. give us the old system.. this new EQ2 system isnt cutting it... there is no thought in armor crafting anymore.. the only part of the game i even enjoy anymore is now reduced to a remedial level...
Ok, I am getting really tired of this. While I agree with all the issues brought up in the original post, this line of turning it into EQ2 is tiring. The crafting system is not becoming EQ2's system! The crafting system is *nothing* like EQ2's system! They're making armoursmithing too simple, agreed, but they're changing itto be likedroid engineering... which is still from SWG! Complaints like this don't do anything to get things fixed because it makes us look like a mob following some guy in the front shouting 'You're turning the country communist!' over a slight raise in taxes. Shouting that they're turning the game into EQ2 makes as little sense as the systems are still very different!
As for the update in general, just because there's flaws in the system doesn't mean you scrap the whole thing... it means you fix the flaws. The combat update has far more benefits than downsides, it just needs some minor changes to fix the problems. Shouting out that the whole system should be scrapped (which you should *know* they won't do) is more likely to just drown out the constructive feedback, resulting in less getting fixed.
I notice by your tag you are not an AS I am not flaming you but this new armor system is not going to fly. I Am a master tailor/armorsmith/merchant on my server. I took up AS so I could do something creative with my clothing. Padded was the only way you could have red boots in the game. Now I have resorted to wearing pukey shades of greens and other colors that DONT even match the clothing pallete. OHH let me tell you AS has became one big pain in the rear now. And trust me the consumers are the ones that are going to be complaing in the long run when your paying 350k+ for a chest piece. Some of the pieces I briefly looked at take 7 segmetns that take alot of stuff for each segment. The cores? OMG let's not even go there. To make armor now is a long drawn out process. I am too busy making sure my clothing vendors stay stocked up.
I had a HAM reduced /decorative armor vendor and that in its self was an ordeal to keep up with.
I also took up AS cause I was getting really bored with the limited options on clothing. I have been playing since launch and have not seen any of the broken or missing color charts fixed yet.
I would like to see full color palletes for footwear and gloves. And for all the charts to coordinate. The footwear has a pink that does not match any of the pinks in the clothing pallete.
Yeah it would be nice if they would at least remove the restricions on professions determining what armor one can wear.
I used to wield a 2 handed cleaver just for looks, which I thought was just kewl. I had compliments on what I was wearing all the time. Now I am just a run of the mill, reduced to nothing but clothing template.
So idealy it would just be great and at least a little better if anyone could wear whatever armor they want to wear. So what if I slows you down or decreases attack speed? That should be your choice!
