Thread: Combat Upgrade and resources

I haven't had a chance to read all the pages on the discussion of the Combat Upgrade in the 'In Development' Forum. However, I ran across this response from ThunderHeart on page 6. If I'm reading this correctly, he is saying that its possible the resource requirements for armor could change with the Combat Upgrade.

Has anyone heard anything more along these lines? I know everything is in flux, but I would hope they could commit to saying the resources will stay the same. I've spent a lot of time collecting resources and I'd be pretty ticked off if something changes.

Not really. All of these things would fall under the category of "might change during the testing process depending on the feedback", which ultimately is why these sorts of things were omitted from this particular doc.

We just have to make sure and let them know we don't want them to change the resource requirments.

I certainly hope the new armors aren't exactly the same as currents armors (other than the change in appearance of the new armors). I would be quite disappointed if I had to buy a bunch of schematics for something that is really just the same old stuff.

I wouldn't mind if there were some new resources required. Otherwise, where's the challenge to making it, and where's the satisfaction of a job well done?

Well, I would say just because the same resources are used, doesn't mean you'll craft it the same way. I'm hoping the Combat Ugrade will make it so we don't all just pile in points to the resists and instead think about tradeoffs. I wouldn't mind some new layers or mods that require other resources, but don't make my stack of kiirium or neutronium steel useless.

I say use new resources. Make it competitive again, and give new armorsmiths a chance to get into the game. Although, I think that all AS' will have good business with the upgrade.

You have a good point, although I think there will still be some market for neutral armors. My greatest concern is that the new armors are something more than superficially different from the old.

I agree with you. If its just more of the same with different types of stats, I'll be disappointed. I'm looking forward to making a variety of armors again and not just composite with the occasionaly ubese.

Ok, I think I read it wrong. I thought he was refering to the armor we currently make and the resources required. I do not want these to change.

The new armor can be different, that would be fine by me. Not like I don't already have 4 houses filled with resources....

Yeah I'd say make it competative too... use new resources...

I've been an MAS for over a month now and have only make around 10 suits of Ubese and 10 suits of Padded... hell I can't even find any decent resources to make Composite with (at 80% levels) that doesn't cost me a fortune by those who have been around for several months...

Every once in awhile its time to wipe the slate clean and start over again... for the old AND the new.

Than you can have to whole market. They do that, and a bet you just about every MAS that's been doing this for a while will quit. I have too much invested for them to change everything. I'm not going to go through what I did when I first became an AS, which is what you are doing now.

I had to do it, so why shouldn't everyone else that follows? I loved this profession enough to take my time and search the galaxy for all the resources I needed to make the best armor. It wasn't easy and I didn't have a lot of credits at the time, but I managed to get myself where I am today.

Sorry about that. I hate the "Clean Slate" copout.

I wouldn't mind new armor or new things related to armor requiring different resources, but I've spent a great deal of time and effort surveying and mining to have the inventory of resources I have now. I'm finally at the point where I don't have to jump on every new spawn of an armorsmith resource. I realize this is a little bit of 'Chicken Little' because we don't know what, if any, changes there will be, but I would be against anything that would make this time and effort moot and potentially leave me with tons of resources that can't be used and possibly sold.

i think it's just stupid to say start all over so the new armorsmith's can compete. i've been an AS for over a year and during that entire time i've been buying/harvesting the best resources out there so that i could be an elite armorsmith. if they go and change the resource requirements up, i'm stuck with hundreds of millions of dollars worth of resources that become worthless. i think most of the vets would agree with me on this. it should take time and dedication to reach the top of your profession, and all the noobie armorsmiths that pop up because they wanna be able to make the new armors shouldn't be on equal ground as those of us who have been doing it for awhile.
