Thread: Is this right?
Hi, I'm working up the scout tree, but I also have newbie entertainer.
I was soloing a mission yesterday and when completed I made my camp. Had two mind wounds, figured I might as well cure them while I regen. So I took out my instrumnet and played the ole handy StarWars one.
After about 20 seconds, mind wounds were gone. All other wounds stayed, as I thought they should. Then, however, I stoped the song and noticed that all my wounds (heath, con, stamina, etc) went to zero. This has now happened a few times.
Is this right? I thought my music only cured mind wounds. I do have newbie medic too - but havent crafted any wound pack thingies. I looked in the help files, but didnt see anything about this.... please enlighten me ![]()
That happened to me, too.
I'm a artisan/medic/entertainer traveling with a scout/marksmen friend. We were getting our butts kicked, and after outrunning three red mobs and two white ones that insisted on following us half way across the land, he pulled up a camp and we rested. We were planning on heading back to the city, but his wounds were pretty bad- and I was out of meds, so I used the 'tendwound' command on him, figuring that it was better me then him wounded. Then I started dancing in hopes of getting rid of the mind wounds I had- however, my action and health wounds went down as well! I went from 26 CON damage to 6. I have no idea why, I just did.
o.O
Not sure if it's a bug, or intended.
Hi
Im not a CH so lets get that set first. I was running around doing missions today and had some sooooo far out in the far corner of the map it took me 10 min to run there. It however is not unpopulated it has houses around and lots of lairs. Might i add ALOT of lairs. So anyone around would have the choice of a dozen to go to apart from the one i am doing as a mission.
I had 2 gnort missions...im not a fighter by trade and these are easy to do. I start killing the mobs near the lair when a CH comes in and tries to tame a baby. Ok whatever...i leave the baby alone and its a white dot now instead of a yello. I kill the other mobs around the lair and hes givingthe babycommands.
I proceed to kill the lair off and then the other gnorts that popped up. His "baby" attacks me and it gets killed. I didnt target it...i didnt press attack...it was automatic because the mob hit me.
This CH now proceeds to call me a coward for killing the baby off and ruining his taming session. He also yells at me for killing the other babys around the lair because he was going to tame those next. /boggle i can read minds?
He runs off and i ask him in a tell what is the problem i was doing a mission that i ran 10 minutes to and i did not kill anything he had already tamed intentionally.
Now...i dont get it...do you all think you have exclusive rights to any mob that says (baby)? There are alot of irritating traits about the average CH like pulling out all there pets at the starport causing lag from here to forever and showing them off like some right of manhood... not all...but alot do this...or spamming there commands over and over and over and over and did i mention over in large public well populated places, how many times do i have to leave the area to get away from your FOLLOW GROUP TRICK spam?
You might better the image of your class a bit by showing some simple common courtesy for the players around you.
And no i dont hate CH...i have several friends that are CH and they put there pets away b4 town take them out after leaving town they dont spam commands where there are tons of folks and they dont try to lag out an already lagged area with a gajillion showings of there 9000 lb gnort.
This guy just really cheesed me off...
It was my mission for gods sake and I purposely avoided the one he was giving commands to. Show some courtesy and you might get some in return.
Thank the devs for this one - our pets don't heal in the data pad, so we get them out so they can heal. Not our choice and certainly not what we want, so you deal with the lag the devs forced on us.
As far as your experience - meh. My Mom told me a long, long time ago that some people are just jerks, but that doesn't mean all people are. It was true then and it's true now.
That's wierd, the only way that could have happened is if he'd failed the tame and the baby had decided to help a friend before he could re/tame, but if he trained it commands he should have had it under full control.
Sounds like maybe he released it hoping he could re-tame it for more xp and the baby attacked you before his re-tame timer ran out (~10 mins). Either way poor form on his part. There's plenty of babies to go around, no need to pull one from an occupied lair.
oh and on the lag issue. A few pets with exactly the same textures and low poly count (compared to players) have very little impact on lag compared to dozens of players each with their own unique set of clothes, weapons, armors, jewelery.
And like Xen said, tell the Devs to hurry up and add the pet-only stimpacks. They closed the healing-in-datapad loophole and forgot to add a new way to heal.
Alot of the thing that annoy you are things that a CH has to do to play his class.
1) It does truely suck when you see someone gun down a baby you could tame. It is not like they get exp from it but it is just something else to kill. I know this isn't alwaysthe casebut it happens often.
2) Spamming Commands is the only way to get the pet to follow orders some times. Alot of time I spam the order just to make sure it got though to the pet. Have you ever called a dog before in real life? How many times do you say, "Come here boy, come here, come on, whistle, whistle, come here boy, come on". This is not uncommon with real animals. Also the Trick command is the way we heal pets mind damage and wounds, it is likely that the CH telling his pet to do a trick in town is just healing his pet.
I am not flaming you but since you and others like you don't actually play a Creature Handler, it is likely that you just don't realize what is required to play the profession. We hear you complaints and end up getting mad about it because there is nothing we can do to prevent what your complaining about or if there is something we can do, it is such an inconvinence that we refuse to do it. An example is not calling a pet in town. We don't have to do this but it reduces down timeto call a pet in town and let him regen while we are picking up missions and checking out the bazaar than to do all that, move outside of town a bit and go AFK while the pet regens. You don't have to do this and spend the extra down time, why should we have to.
Obviously there are A hole Creature Handlers that pull earthshakers out and tromp around town just to annoy people but then again there are people who are Marksman, Rilfeman, BH etc that will attack a lair that is not their mission just because it is good exp, even when you are already there trying to eek out as much exp on the lair as you can. Point here is that there are bad apples everywhere.
If you see the majority of CHs doing something and it happens to aggravate you, stop for a second and say to yourself, "Maybe there is a reason they are doing this. I need to give them some slack." We did not all get together and conspire to figure out ways to piss you off, we are just trying to play the game and enjoy our profession just like you are.

I don't know what the point of your post was. You had a run in with a stupid CH, then came here to tell us about it? Then you go on to tell us what SOME CH do that annoys you? There isn't much we as a whole can do about a few.
As far as showing off pets... I've seen plenty of people comparing stats on thier weapons while waiting for the shuttles too, and all THEY did was buy the **edit** things. If we go to a dangerous planet and manage to pull a baby out of a nest of dangerous creatures I will **edit** well show it off if I feel like it. I'm not inconsiderate, I'll generally leave pets put away in cities, and I don't leave leave pets out for too long should we fellow CH start comparing our beasts, but you are going to have to deal with seeing them now and then.
As for pet spam, thank the developers that thier pets are so buggy that we NEED to spam a command to get a pet to do what it's supposed to. Why they couldn't have left pet commands as silent signals is beyond me though. I could always have macro in a /say if I had something cute to say to my pet.
I'm not sure why the baby he had tamed attacked you, unless he had completed training it and had released it, in which case it would have re-associated itself with the lair and tried to defend it as normal. If that is the case he had no right saying a word to you , because there was nothing more that baby could do for him. Well, I suppose he could call you some kind of mild in-character insult for killing a baby creature but that is about it.
Hmm, thinking about it though....
I am wonderingif in fact he hadn't actually tamed it yet and was still in the process - saying things like "Steady....", "Don't bite me", "Good, err....boy?" - if so,then yes, you attacking the lair could have spoiled his tame because it wasn't actually complete yet. I'm not exactly sure, because I've never had that happen to me, but I suspect that even though the baby turns white when the taming attempt starts (to stop others targetting it deliberately) it is still 'wild' and I expect would still defend its home lair. So yes, technically, you did spoil his tame attempt. However, he still had no right to run around calling you names and makes all CH look bad by his bahaviour.
The important lesson is that all this could have been avoided if both parties had been in less of a rush and actually communicated. The CH, on seeing you at the lair could easily have said something along the lines of 'would you mind not attacking anything for a minute while I try to tame the baby here, will be out of the way as soon as I do'. And you could just as easily have asked the CH what he was doing and would your actions affect it. Instead of either party taking 10 seconds to type a quick message, talk to the other person and maybe get a conversation going, both sides did what is so typical and ignored each other, then wondered why things got messed up. The CH was well out of line for going off on you though.
Now, as far as do CH's think they have exclusive rights to babies, then my personal answer is no, but we do ask for a little respect in regard to them in the same way that entertainers ask people not to put pets in the middle of dance floors. Babies give zero xp for anyone other than scouts and CHs - you don't get combat xp off them. Scouts (and rangers)only get xp from harvesting them (and that is getting cut significantly). Ultimately, babies are there just for CHs. While this doesn't mean we should have exclusive rights, it does mean your average CH is gonna get more than a little miffed when someone runs around killing babies for the 'fun' of it (not implying beecharmer did that at all, but I have seen people do it and its **edit** frustrating). That single blast for fun to them just cost the CH anywhere from 700 to 1700xp, so I hope you can see why it gets annoying.
Moral of the story - its amazing how many people want to play in a multiplayer game then never bother speaking to other people until its too late.
