Thread: My goodness... what happened to my profession?!?!

Okay.

Well I made my first peice of Post CU armor tonight, was quite an experience.

So now instead of 2 days making Layers>Segments>Armor which required 2 factory runs and then hand crafting (which yes, I prefered over factory runs of armor) I now have to spend 3 days making Layers>Segments>Cores>Armor.

I am sure at one point the devs said something about not meaning armor to be 'factory run' all the time, surely changing it for a forced 2 factory runs to a forced 3 factory runs was not the way it should've gone? Also all the resource costs have gone thorugh the roof and well, it took me over an hour to craft one piece as, to be honest it confused the heck out of me for a while.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who's voiced their frustrations over this, there was little wrong with the armor creation process in the first place, they should've balanced the armor, added the new ones (yes with the advanced components if they wished! It would've been different instead of the new 'same old slog') plus given everyone cool new armors to loot as well. Lovely. Instead they've made something, which wasgood with the potential to be great, awful.

In 2 hours I've gone from planning my new store, being happy at returning to the game after a break, enjoying life and looking forward to supplying my guild with quality armors once again.

To feeling dispondant, upset and just annoyed at how we've been treated. I went weaponsmith before coming "home" to armorsmith and that wasn't even half as complicated or resource intensive.... what the hell went wrong???

Anyway, not going to cry about it, asI said I'm sure I'm not the only person here who has felt this way or ranted. But I wanted to give the perspective of someone who's played the game a long time, and returned to something I felt comfortable with, but now feel like a complete alien to it. I guess I'll do the factory runs, see how my first batch comes out and then see if I have the stomach to continue.

But right now I feel awful.

It got Profotable.... before the cu I got few sales and wasn't well know on my server as an AS, since I was 1 of 100 clones pumping out the same composite armor as everyone else.

Now I stock all types of armor and keep IMP Faction armor stocked as well. Since the CU hit I've made probably 80-100 million easy, and have spent a ton. I'm really busy these days, but making great money

After you make your first billion, making money is just not fun anymore. The mindless nature of armor crafting has sucked the remaining fun from the profession. Can't really do any spiffy custom work any more, and the factory times are just plain silly.

Caile was wondering why no one is having issues? There are very, very few of us left. Of the 14 other masters on my server I traded resources with, all but 2 are gone, and I'll be going as well.

There have been innumeral threads on what the problems are with AS now, and most of us just don't feel like sticking around until they are fixed.

To those that stay, good luck.

yeah i agree with you,

On my server (Kauri) a lot of AS are surrending now....(sorry for my bad english , i'm french)

And i'll surrend tomorrow i think...

I was specialised in Wookiee Armors since the Devs put it IG.

It was a hrad jobs to collect specifics resources, good armor padding...a challenge

Now , all AS can do some Wookiee armor with only a specific woods that is not important for the resits.

Ihave the same problems as a lot of AS here (new resources , huge time spent in factory, Prices raise....)

But there's one thing really important that make me surrend:

Now , the difference between a great armor (around 7000/5000/6000 for a good assault) and an average one (6000/4000/5000) is really thin....

Look:

The actual function is: 60 * (AR/10000) + { [ (10000 - AR) / 10000 ] * (AR/200) }

Which reduces to: 0.011 * AR - 5E-7 * AR * AR

Some hard numbers:

1000 = 10.5%
2000 = 20.0%
3000 = 28.5%
4000 = 36.0%
5000 = 42.5%
6000 = 48.0%
7000 = 52.5%
8000 = 56.0%
9000 = 58.5%
10000 = 60%

So, for me , it's useless to put all my time and my money in a profession that do not worth the cost.

Making a great Armor with all your best resources is near useless and do not make the difference anymore in a PvP combat for instance....

The only things that i didn't test is the new type of loots (biological cartridge, core enhancements...etc), i would like to test it...but nevermind , i'll be a combattant soon...so good bye all....that profession was an excited experience for me ...good luck all.

Maybe one day you'll make me armors (after i'll finish my HUGE stock )))

/agree i sooo wanted to like the cu, i love this game. but i cant find any love for the cu. i have had a warning placed on my acount for titleing my shop f|_|ck the cu. csrs didnt like that.... i could handle the changes at a push, but the problems are too much. i cant be arsed to re stock every piece on my venders and collect all new resources.. so i logout sadly and play wow, it isnt as good as swg was but its better than swg is..

it isnt just us smiths quitting, my friends list shows no-one online everytime i log in. brings a tear to my eye.. ): ill try to edit this post with a link to a video made by someone on chimera that captures my mood exactly,

Excellent that you've managed to continue enjoying it. But to be honest Armorcrafting was never about money for me, sure it was a nice bonus, but I enjoyed crafting for folks while they waited in my workshop and I tailored their needs to suit them, this worked especially well with my two specialities which were RIS Armor and Padded, the reason why Compo was so cost effective to make/sell was becasue you could change the colors, which meant you only ever had to craft one. IF they'd taken that out there would be a lot less 'compo' clone armorsmiths. Instead they took the art out and put extra work in. I didn't make compo because the market was flooeded although I did make the other armors just to have stock.

I knew it had changed. but this is beyond revamping it.

Same here, I used to sell MAYBE a suit a week. Now since I started specializing in faction armor I cant keep my vendors stocked!

I hear that, I've made 20 suits of so-so 5378 base battle armor unlayered, sold out in 2 days and went from 30k in the bank to millions. Also, the last thing I'm going to do is complain about a profession that requires more work...helps seperate the cream

I specifically started to grind out AS before the CU (about 2 weeks) as I knew this would happen.

I knew people would not like whatever changes that were made to AS, -OR- People would be so scared of walking around with critters running loose without a suit.

Both ended up being true, and my best selling armor is my crappy unlayered 3840 base effectiveness armor.

I make em in cool colors that really complement peoples characters, and they just eat em up. My padded armor is the biggest seller.

I really dislike scrounging around for resources, but I just reflect my efforts in the price of a suit. I get compensated appropiately and its gives credits for the next load of resources I need to scrounge up.

Your right it's not about money. it's about enjoying craftin, it's about being known as a reliable AS who people can come to for quality armor. It's about enjoying crafting. I was never into carfting for profit... I bought the account to have a master Architect, but I do spend most of my time on my crafter so I get out and get the cool loots, and the new things. I have hunters and fighter toons, but I don't play them as much. Gaing a great profit like I can allows me to collect the items in the game I want to... it allows me to help my fiance' get set back up as a tailor, she needs BE'd tissues, and I can purchase them for her

There is my fun, does it suck that I'm still making 95% of my armor by hand? Yes, and eventually my factories will be churning it all out and I'll be able to hunt again. But for now the profits make the crafting worth the time and effort. And besides if I really get tired of all the cash I can just wait till SOE opens thier little E-bay venture thier doing, and make real csh for all my cred's and quit my day job

I made all, but prefered wookie armor.

As bad as comp was (being pretty much the only viable armor), at least it was flexible. Even if there were a few main recipes, there was a challenge involved with trying different things. A real cash cow too. I finally hit 65base/80kin using 1/1/1 layers. An fairly nice accomplishment on my server.

There is no flexibility with the new stuff. It's amazing how much was taken away by removing that one line of experimentation.

I can see how it's easy to make tons on the new armor. Pretty much all the old smiths are disgusted with what's become of the ART of crafting a fine set.

I'll be making money in a different fashion now. I've decided to become a teacher.
