Thread: Hide Farms

The Devs really need to look in to making "Livestock Farms" for players, much like harvesters.

And each planet you place that farm on will yield the different planet hides.

Of course take the 13ER away and make it like 5ER on farms.. That way you dont OVER do one resource *Devs*

What do you think??

Hehe, that would put me out of business then. Most of my cash comes from hunting for armorsmiths or grinding junk for the holo chasers wanting to power level tailor or BE.

How about allowing tailors to make synthetic hides using the various chemicals and minerals in the game, allow them to experiment on them also to boost the stats based on the stats of the components used. Could also include an organic hide component in the synthetic hides so it is just used to supplement the supply rather than replace it.

e.g.

Synthetic Wooly Hide

Requires 50 wooly hide, 50 fiberplast and 25 liquid petrochemical.

Produces a stack of 100 synthetic wooly hide which stacks like normal resources.

The farms do exist, they are called Rangers, pay them well and get your milk, hide, bone or meat.

Now we are talkin

BioChem wooly hide!!

As far as finding a ranger, not as easy as it used to be since everyone went Jedi grinding.

If they allowed rangers to lay traps down ( equal to a personal ber 5), that would pick up supply issues, and make ranger worth the skill points. Let it cost resources the way all our other crap does ( camo kits, traps etc). Let it be non renewable and a one time (shift)catch per trap.

Good idea,

Perhaps have the Hide harvesters only droppable by rangers, now that would be nice.

That way rangers still have a purpose beside hunting Kimos.

I think we already know that, my problem is that there aren't enough Scouts/Rangers to fulfil the demand, hence why hide costs are 5-10 times that of all other armoursmith resources. At the moment Scouts/Rangers only provide about half the hides that the economy needs on my server, this has resulted in hide prices getting inflated way to high, and for a lot of armoursmiths this cost will be knocked on to their customs in the form of a price hike.

I normally manage to get hold of about 40-50% of the quantity I would actually like to get hold of, therefore there needs to be a way to supplement the supply. Saying that we just need more Rangers isnt the solution as most players don't want to spend their playing time fighting the same creatures fordayson endjust to get some hide, not to mention that other creature produce is required by other professions also.

Hence my suggestion of synthetic hides that require a certain quantity ofharvested hides. Allowing these synthetic hides to be created and experimented by tailors would give them more repeatable business (i.e. tailors could sell on synthetic hides to other crafters) and more reason to use assembly/experimentation gear if implemented correctly. Of course there would only be generic synthetic hide types so Scouts/Rangers would still be required to collect specific hides (like Yavinian Leathery for Wookie armour) as well as the high quality hides that spawn.

Any thing would help right about now...

I like the idea of synthetic Hides... This would give the taliors their experimentation back, They could focus on things like a High OQ and a High SR Hide, but the MAL and UT would suffer...

Its a good idea to have it still use organics.... but the organic useage would need be a bit lighter... considering this is a synthetic, and no real organics are used in much synthetics.... Maybe something like 10 Wooly 25 Fiberplast, 10 Polymer, 5 metal to create the stack of 100, then a factory run could be 100k that way.... and have to be done in a Food and Chemical station...

If not the taliors The Bio Engineers would be the second best, if not the best choice for the synthetic Hides...

I also like the Idea of Rangers setting up Shift Traps...

Area Track is their survey, They find a strong concentration of a Hide source..

Set the trap (uses one Lot) it needs abit of Bait (Maintnance) and a bit of power...

It would have to be able to collect at least 5 to 10 units a Harvest cycle.. so that way it could in a 7 day period pull 50 to 100k of that hide the trap is set for...

and I think It should be a master Ranger only ability to set a Organics Trap... this way theres some incentive to become a master ranger.. and not just a hunt master

Traps should also be planet specific...like camo.

Traps should require organics for maint...creatures are not baited by credits. =)

Just a few thoughts on this. Rangers are not big on the passive harvesting. We like to go out and hunt. Right now we get almost no benefit for Mastering Ranger. If anything, it currently makes us worse at hunting (and getting hides). If they upped the hide pulls for a Ranger, you'd have a lot less trouble getting the resources you need. As it is, the increase over a Novice Scout is about 75% (we get around 1.75x what a Novice Scout does). The difference shrinks even more if both use Veghash. Making traps and such sounds all nice but it's not the best solution. While having some sort of trap to collect resources might supplement our income, Rangers don't want to turn into farmers/miners. We like to hunt. As far as synthetics and such go, it would devalue our profession even more. Master Rangers currently are wasting 63 skill points. We get almost nothing over a Master Scout (the harvest increase is close to 30% here, areatrack is bugged beyond belief, traps rarely hit anything worth trapping, camo gives us very little over maskscent [and is useless when applied to others],the additional terrain negotiation only applies to crawling, foraging is bugged (and the results are worse than you can buy from a Novice Chef), and do I even need to mention camps?). By making it so that even our resource collecting is no longer needed would essentially kill our profession. While another source of hides might help, letting us collect more would at least give our profession a little boost. If we could harvest 10 times as much, things would be a lot easier (and you'd get a lot more Rangers as well). While it might seem a little extreme, I hope you get the point.
