Just wanted to share something that happen to me...
I'm 34 and inok shape. I'm 6'4 and 245 lbs. I know i can afford to lose several pounds
I'm about 30 lbs over weight.
Anyways this was my first massive multiplayer game and got a little addicted to it. I work 4 days a week and get 3 days off. On those 3 days off I would wake up around 9 am and start playing SWG, I would look over and next thing I knew it would be like 5 pm, I would take a few breaks to eat lunch and stuff but sometimes I would get so involved I would forget. Anyways when playing I had a bad habit of bending my legs under my chair. This caused a Blood Clot to form in my leg. When it first happen it felt like I had a tight calf muscle and didnt think much of it. After few more days later it started to feel like i pulled a hamstring in my leg. Then later that night I had a tight feeling in my chest and found it little hard to breath, it only lasted maybe 20-30 secs. What happen was the blood clot was growing up my leg and 2 pieces broke off and went into my lungs. Another couple days past as I could hardly walk and took few days off from work, I mostly just sat in bed and had myleg elevated on some pillows, eventually my leg started to turn red and thats when I went to the hospital and they did a Ultra sound and found the clots, I was then admitted into the hospital where I spent the next 6 days. They had to thin out my blood so no more clots would form. After the cat scan they saw the clots in my lungs and said the odds of surviving this was like winning the lottery. So for that I'm very lucky. This was 7 months ago and I still have swelling in my leg, and might end up having to wear a compression sock the rest of my life to help push the blood up my leg. what happens when you get a serious blood clot is it will damage lifters in your vein, these lifters are needed to push blood up your vein against gravity.
Now blood clots in someone my age is rare and usally only happen to people in there 50's or 60's, but our generation grew up on computers and video games so its a way of life, and we ALL need to take procauctions not to end up like myself. My blood specialist told me he had another patient a guy in his 40's who would play video games for long periods of time with his legs crossed and ended getting clots like myself.
My point is if your over 28 you really need to be careful that you dont sit for long periods of time without getting up and walking around for 15-20 mins.. my doctor said you really shouldnt sit longer then 2-3 hours without moving around.
Im not trying to scare anyone, as blood clots as i mentioned above are rare in people under 40, but being our generation grew up on video games and computers this could become a problem with people in my generation that do spend alot of time sitting in front of a computer weather it be working or playing. And want people to be aware of what could happen. I only wish someone would of posted someting like this before it happen to me.
but at least i'm still alive
And i still play SWG, its just now i make sure i dont play longer then an hour or so a day, and when I do play I make sure I get up often and move around to get my blood circulating.

OMG! I'm so sorry that this happened to you! And really it don't matter what your age, it can happen to anyone! I'm 23 and I've been unemployed for a while and most of the time I am on the computer wether it be on SWG or searching the net etc. Sometimes I get cramps in my legs but I also have high blood pressure etc. So I started going to the gym at least 4times a week and it really helps alot. Thank goodness I have to let my dogs out every few hours LOL Otherwise it might happen to me too!

I can sympathise man. I am 6 foot 5 and about 230 (even though I am 16
) so the blood has a long way to travel back up my legs. I developed a habbit of constantly shaking my legs, i just cant stop. This prevents the blood clotting, and it also helps the blood get up back to your body so you dont get pins and needles too

At 21, currently 23, got a blood clot in my leg broke off went to my lungs
Well I had no clue what happened it hurt when I breathed. I literally had never been to the hospital since I was born, (typical guy). anyway doc tells me inflamed lung lining and send me home with amild pain killer and inflamed lung lining.
Two days later I wake up my legg is completely blue like someone is choking it, so instead of going to ER what to I do. I go to work, yeah I know I'm an idiot, but I did my job around 3pm the next evening I go see my doc again this time he turns white like a ghost and tried to get me to call an ambulance to take me to the hospital, mind you my doc is about 350 yards from the hospital.
So I spent the next 8 nights in a hospital. I had more blood drawn from me then I know what to do. When I got out of there I looked like a heroin junky on both arms. What sux is to this day they have no clue what caused it. just put me on comidin (sp) or rat poisoning what ever u want to call it and sent me home.
At the time I was manager of office depot working 12-18 hour shifts standing except when I inhalled lunch if i even took one. so it was not from sitting. don't have HB, or high cholestrol. anyway enough of my **edit**.
glad your ok man i've been there done that

The blood clot issue is a very serious one.. many many people die from it. I had a very good friend from EQ nearly die twice due to it (he had a genetic issue making them more likely)
If you are going to play games, watch TV, drive the car etc for extended periods get up and move periodically.. Something as simple as walking out of the room and back is enough to keep these things from forming assuming you dont have other medical problems causing them.

This is the same condition that can strike frequent airline passengers, truck drivers, and anyone who stays motionless in a similar position for lengths of time.
Forewarned is forearmed they say, so just be aware that this can happen, are also know that age really has nothing to do with this. While older people are more susceptible, anyone can suffer these clots...

Wow that is crazy, I am about the same size at 6'3" 250 and I am 30. I definitly appreciate the warning. They should just make a treadmill or stationary bike with a computer built into it for playing.

Theonebountyhunter,
I would make sure they test you for blood disorders, my brother inlaws brother has a genetic defect that can allow blood clots to form, they found out because him and his wife were having a hard time trying to get her pregnant so they went in to see what the problem is, when they did the genetic testing they found the genetic defect, now he takes baby asprin everyday just to be on the safe side. They ran the test on me and came back negative, but my doctor did say there are hundreds of disorders they can not test for right now, which is a tad scary, but he thinks odds are it was my sitting for prolong periods that caused it. Ya i've been taking the rat poison my self for 8 months, have 4 more left before they take me off of it. Usally its only for 6 monoths but since it broke and went into my lungs the doc wants to keep me on it for a year. They said one of the things that help me was i'm a non smoker and my heart and lungs are in perfect health, and i'm fairly young.
And here i thought i was only young person who got this, unfornantly it seems to happen more then I thought...
I actually bought a small bicycle wheel from Sharper Imagine that fits under my desk, i actually pedal when I play or work, figured its a good way to lose a few lbs also

Hmmmm.... So it's actually quite healthy to get up every 45 minutes to walk to the fridge for a beer.... nice.
Seriously, sorry this happened to you. Totally unexpected thing, glad you're alright.
I think I'll go outside and have a cigarette.
