Thread: Way to merge BE tissues in Armor, and make lower level armor more appealing.

Just had a thought tonight about adding slots for BE tissues into lower level armors like mabari and chitin. This would help even the tremendous favor of the high level armors and would let newer smiths actually have a product worth selling. For example, I have a BE on another server who would love to have mabari armor with BE enhancers like mask scent, def vs stun, and melee def while sampling. The low ham costs and BE mods would make this kind of armor ideal.

I'm getting a bit tired so I won't explore the idea any more tonight, but I'd like to wake up to some criticism.

Thanks,

Boo

Although a very raw idea I like the concept very much! The only problem being is that we already rely on Tailor components. Also since the new Wookiee armor, unles you are good friends with a Tailor, it can be tough getting armor pading made. Again I do love the idea but adding BE to the mix might make it difficult for some. Luckily I have a Tailor that cranks out 40 crate backpacks of RFP's and such (1000 per pack!).

actually chiton can be made at high kenetic resists(using poor bone and wooly hide i can make 24-34% chiton at 3-0-0-4), and my guild mates are willing to take it over there master made ubese and comp for normal hunting

No no I understand. My point was that we would be introducing yet another proffession into our requirements. And dont forget we need Artisans for PSG's.

1) Low level armors already have a market. There is nothing wrong with the market as is. I know, I have 5 armorsmith chars!!! many of whom make their living off the lower level armors. I have yet to stock a suit of maberi that didn't sell in under 12 hours. I'm not exactly cheap either.....

2) You would be taking a large market away from tailors. Bioclothing is supposed to be a choice INSTEAD of armor. You can wear a shirt, and a bando ( or enhanced backpack) but that's purely their market. The devs have already stated repeatedly armor WILL NEVER be allowed to have biotissues. This issue keeps rearing it's ugly head from time to time. It is unbalancing. I believed it before I became a tailor on one of my armorsmiths, I believe it even more now. Bioclothing that enhances several stats is an alternative to armor.

Low Level Armors may have a market, but if you were to stock 5 Suits of each type of armor which ones do you think would sell out the fastest? Comp and Ubese would go fastest, followed by padded and chitin, with mabari and tantel selling slowly.

I feel the bioclothing was implemented to make tailors actually have something to sell, because clothing was "fixed" so that it never decayed. This created a hard spot for tailors in that they had no turn over on their market, everyone only had to buy a couple sets of cloths to be set for life. Now the Dev's have stated that decay will once again come into effect so that tailors will finally be receiving return business.

Also, you being a master smith makes selling armor much easier than any new player trying to get into the business. Most servers have established Smiths who have the means to sell armor efficiently. I remember as a new smith having a tough time finding a market for my low level mabari and chitin because I didn't have the funds to search for great resources or to purchase them. What the Bio enhanced armor would do is provide a larger market for the lower end armor so that such smiths could actually sell their goods instead of simply trying to make enough money to grind as fast as possible through AS.

No. The reason for BE clothing is that *most* people in the game do combat and people want some protection, either in the form of armor or some sort of enhanced clothing. Almost anyone who would wear enhanced clothing instead of armor would choose to use low encumberance enhanced armor if they could. They would be stupid not to! As far as the decay arguement is concerned, the way it has been implemented (decay on death), it is really not going to help tailors at all. There will be an initial rush of people who want to replace their clothes along with the huge backlash of people who are going to blame tailors because they have lost millions in skilltapes. After that settles down, you get 20 uninsured deaths or 100 insured deaths before a piece of clothing decays to the point of not being able to be used. If it is repaired using tools that tailors do not even make (they are artisan tools), then that counter resets back to the beginning. Barring the occasional complete failure on repair, a properly cared for piece of clothing should last a person almost forever!

I have no trouble at all selling far far far more maberi than composite. I was known as a great ubese smith on Intrepid ( I was the first to hit 76% and 77% on server, and sold the first 80% enhanced set at auction), but my maberi STILL outsold my ubese. There are smiths who have composite sitting on their vendors for days at a time. In the time it takes you to run off 100 suits of comp through a factory ( about a week or so?), I can sell 1000 maberi suits. Since I charge 40 cpu for my suits ( the same as ubese) I am still making MORE profit from maberi than I am from comp, with lesser resource requirements. Padded is the fastest selling of all armors, simply because noone stocks it, and people are willing to pay better than composite prices to get their hands on a decent set.

The decay ISN'T usage decay, like armor and weapons. It'll be just like they are adding for ubese shirts/maberi belts. 100 insured PvE deaths, AND failing repair. In almost a year of playing, I STILL haven't dies a total of 100 times across ALL my characters. Of course, I don't PvP. Ahh yes, no decay for PvP deaths.

Not all my smiths are masters. Granted, my test center smith will never have a problem selling maberi, it's the nature of test center. My kauri smith has 3 other smiths to compete against ( at least) plus several brand new smiths. However, if you check the bazaar at the end of the day, everone not reselling busted armor is sold out My vendor is sold out, Etock's vendor is sold out, and KatyJeanhas reported heavy sales as well. It sells as fast as I can craft it. I don't have to wait for Naboo to spawn decent fiberplast. I don't have to wait for special metals, or even great wooly hide. Scaley hide spawns the most often with the highest stats ( almost always something 1700 + in spawn). It's also cheap to gather in great quantities.

Of course, small selling points like actually coloring it would help, as well as labeling it! Most smiths don't bother to do this. I looked at the bazaar on Shadowfire this morning while stocking. I was the only one labeling my armor with colors/stats.

Ask yourself how we'd feel, if the Devs decided to help tailors out by allowing them to make armored clothing......

Enhancing clothing would be a reason to choose clothing over armor, and continue to keep the tailoring profession viable and useful. After the combat balance, there may well be reason to pick clothing over armor. Having bioengineered armor would make armor overpowered and clothing useless in battle. Don't tell us that we would still have the cantina, because that's insulting to tailors who choose to make combat-oriented clothing.

My final point is, that armorsmiths will get bioengineered tissues in their armor over my cold dead lekku.

Thank you, that is all.
