Thread: Armor Hole Bug, and 4 Piece Composite Sets. Jaato Perhaps?

I was reading around the forum here alot a few days back, last week or so. And read a post concerning the armor hole 'fix' that shunts damage to the nearest armor piece. Now I can't find the posts I was reading.

Can someone provide a link to this, or perhaps summerize the belief, or proof, that you only need 4 composite pieces (helm, chest, boots, gloves) to get 100% protection?

This was a problem a while back (it actually had a name- the reverse armor hole). The devs fixed it around seven months ago. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, it seems like a few random people still are experiencing the bug. About once a month someone posts or sends me a PM involving it. It's on the list, but unfortunately, because it doesn't seem to affect everyone, it's very hard to duplicate.

There is a high probability that the Combat Revamp will completely alter the way armor works. In that case, these problems may or may not go away. Hopefully I'll know more in about a month or so.

My understanding is that the Wook armor is supposed to have foot and glove holes. Unfortunately, because the combat feedback screen doesn't say anything about which body part was hit in the event that the attack doesn't hit armor, it's impossible for us to know whether a passthrough is due to an armor hole or the fact that Wookiee armor isn't supposed to cover the entire body. This infomation is definitely a type of functionality that should be added.

I'm not an armorsmith, nor do I fully understand how armor works to begin with, but....

My guildies and I who can wear comp armor run around only waering the helm, chest, pants and biceps. We look like a bunch of tall hobbits

We have tested this out before and after pub 9.25 and we do just fine in combat. Even against NS's.

As for Wookiees, thanks for the answer on that wookiee armor was supposed to have a hole, because I was sometimes getting hit for the full effect while grinding my wookiee up swordsman. A bit irritating, but being a Doc sure does help a lot

this is quite true, I personally only run round in hat chest boots n gloves, the pieces decay quicker though.

There are actually people advertising on the trade boards for our server that they're selling 'cheat-suits' comprising of just hat boots gloves and chest

Yeah, 4-piece suits are all the rage amongst those in the know.

One of my alts is a swordsman lootwhore and he only wears boots, gloves, chestplate, and helmet when out hunting Nightsisters. The only thing that gets through that is Force Powers. Helmets absorb about 20-30% fewer hits than the three other pieces, so I have to repair/replace those less often.

The beauty of the 4-piece suit is that I can wear encumberance-sliced 80/64Kinetic Composite and have a total encumberance of around 290/190/390.

I call em "Mini-Suits", though I suppose cheat-suits works too :/
My high-end armor (stun and cold layered) is only being sold in Mini-suit varieties.
I still sell kinetic and energy as full 9pc suits. Just different markets I guess. If they're bright enough to understand the benefits of using ultra-low encumberance effect sliced cold they probly know what the deal is. I've yet to find a serious PvPer who didn't give me a wink and a nod when they bought a mini-suit of the stun layered stuff. Heh.

I refuse to make the cheat suits, so i put most of my armor on as full suits (although I still keep a parts vendor fairly stocked). They will work and were implemented due to racial restrictions (trandos can't use gloves or boots, so the other parts cover for them) If you know what you're doing, it is MUCH easier to get a light and high resist suit. (4,3,2,1 segments for a full suit.. saves you 11 segments, whcih means you can do it in one string of 11 layers/shards/hides etc. ie. cheater suits not only give lower enc., but can provide much higher protection due to ease of aquisition of loot parts.

I'm going to re-report this as an instance of a bug that came back. Not sure when it reappeared, but it looks like it's going to need to be fixed again. I'm just hoping that fixing it doesn't open up the armor hole again.
