How cool is it to have a heavy 80% kinetic armor, when the base value is sliced to 90%? And even payed EXTRA for that Special Protection, not only in money, but also encumberance?

Why is it, that no Armorsmith produces composite without special protections... Perhaps it cannot be done, but in that case, why dont more armorsmith produce composite that only have 80% electricity, leaving kinetic/energy to base...

I would gladly like to meet the Armorsmith that gives me a serious price for a composite that dont contain any special protections at all... it must be alot cheaper to produce, and the result is alot more valuable than any protections.

read some more posts here and learn a few more things about armor then go looking more on your server cause there are plenty of smiths that produce both electric layer stuff, blast layer cause thatsa good way to inmprove base with a simi worthless damage type put to special and only stun layers

Perhaps I should post in the Corbantis forum for a good Vendor instead then...

Thanks for your input.

ill meet ya there

elec layers have gated resources, therefore limiting the amount of base protection possible. for this reason smiths usually use blast layers since hte resource requirements are similar to that of kinetic layers.

if you REALLY want a 90% suit i suggest hunting some nighsisters for quality layers. im making a suit for a client now, and so far the peices have come out ~75% base and have been sliced to 90% - not to mention HAM's half of what a normal suit usually incurs.

I've made 27% stun layers with 70% base. (12 point smith, great resources) and you can easily slice that to 90 on the base. I did it for myself and made 10 suits and just let a Master Smuggler slice them all and then took the best suit overall. Yeah it's heavy but I just buff all the time anyway.

I think a lot of it has to do with market demand. Most players dont reallt understand what the Base in armor means. They look for high Kin or Elec and En i the special protection and thats it. If I tried to sell in bulk a 80 Elec, 70 Base armor it prolly wouldnt sell well. As an armorsmith I can afford to make 5 suits and get a effec slice accross the board to create some really nasty armor! (meaning it takes 5 suits to get the desired slices).

Too mant customers stare with googlie eyes at the special protection. Hence thats what we will make.

Personally when I have a custom request, I will explain how armor really works. People are sometimes amazed by what they learn. But also because of that I get more and better educated customers. Its a win win.

i have searched through Corbantis, all vendors in Tattoine, and half of them in Naboo... and I finally found a vendor in Talus that seems to understood how to craft armor.

I have more or less been up my knees with extremely heavy Kinetic ones, that defenitly needed a doctors buff to get inside. As an enterteiner I like to get in and out of my clothes at any time, without the help from others.

The three types are:

A) Base 51% Electricity 60% 155k 462/333/505 aka 'extreme lightweight'.

B) Base 64% Energy 78% 450k 505/429/506 aka 'medium'

C) Base 69% Stun 37% 665k 881/753/939 aka 'heavy'

Been thinking about buying the last one there.

I'm a master on Shadowfire, and I do make electric layer armor and is able to get 90% base with medium HAM cost. The problem here is what to do with the encumbrance sliced pieces. It's great that I can sell the high effectiveness sliced ones at a higher price but the encumbrance sliced ones just sits and rots on my vendor because no one really wants to buy 68% armor even if it's low HAM.

One thing to look at is that most of your mass producing armorsmiths make the armor that sells and since everyone wants to look cool they make Kinetic comp since its the most common dmg type, and ever since since I introduced the corvette class armor the 80% Kinetic/Energy stuff they make that if they can. I know everyone i about 90% armor but since most people can usually only afford one suit they go with what will be good no matter how its sliced, hence the reason why most smiths make the Corvette class comp. I know I know why not just make the Electric stuff, well Ive tried it and some people do buy it but those are the people that buy 5 suits at a time to get the slices they want, and Ive argued with people but on average it take from 5 to 7 suits to get the slices you want. But the slices for encum usually just rot on the vendor even when you reduce the price alot. And since 80% of my sales come from the people who by one or 2 suits at a time I cater to them, the risher people know how to contact me and ask for special runs.

All Im saying is thats why you see the type of comp armor that you do, Kinetic is easy to make and it sells well, GOOD electric materials are difficult to find with the right stats to make it worth while,so its not neccissarily cheaper to produce, and usually only older smiths have the materials to make it anyway. I understand your frustration, but initially new smiths are out to make money 1st then expand, so my advice to you find some of the older AS on your server and see what they tell you. Atm I make 80% elec 70% base but only for select customers and request now.

Ok Ramble done, see what happens when you let us old guys ramble on with out making sense, now I need a nap

I totally agree with Kines, seek out an older AS and make a special order. I'm an older AS and able to make pretty much whatever armor people want.

Kines thanks for the post of your Corvette line of armor very helpful and insightful. Been making it for 2 weeks now and I must say it's one of the fastest selling armor I make. I think I'm the first one to make it on Shadowfire but I'm not sure. Although I used a different approach than you did but it came out pretty close. Have you ever thought about reducing the HAM on the corvette line using electric layers? The thought came to me when some one said that the armor is too heavy and the wanted to use only 2 layers to make the armor. It got me to think that if you use:

1 kinetic layer 3-base 14-kinetic - 15 HAM

1 energy layer 3-base 14-energy - 15 HAM

1 electric layer 2-base 2 electric - 0 HAM

I'm unable to do this on shadowfire due resource is poorer than most other servers. Offcourse your base is going to be lower but the reduction in HAM would be a much more welcomed benefit.

And Thessa yes I do give them away to newbies on Mos Eisley, but they started to beg for better armor for free. So, I decide to sell the armor at cost at a tent nearby.

Exactly. I'm already taking in the rear on every piece of encumbance sliced 40% stun, 65% base I make. 80% kinetic, 70% base is nice because it sells no matter how it's sliced.

Maybe when I start to sell unsliced armor I'll give it a go.

Actually I had thought of it at the time my electric layer materials were limited but Ive since gathered the best materials for it that are available on my server, I make some armor also that alot of my friends like to use on the Crovette its the same as the corvette class but it actuall y has one more layer its 80% Kinetic/Energy/Electric/Blast 70% base this one I can make but it uses the absolute best material on my server unless you use enhancers ofcrouces but its great for the corvette and the DWB.

btw what base are you selling your corvette with, I did 70% with mine since everyone is used to 70% I did 68% for a while but I kept getting e-mails for 70% so... hehe.
