Profession: Armorsmith

* RIS layers should now have proper bonus attributes.

It doesn't make much sense to me as there is no such thing as a "RIS Layer" anymore...

Either they mean RIS segments will get some bonus (they're still not experimentable), or feathered attachments will get their bonus (they use peko feathers so are "RIS Layers" maybe).

I'm pretty sure it's the 2nd one.

What the hell is TH talking about now? This is in the patch notes too.

Fixed the way resources are evaluated when used in crafting. Under the old system, a resource's final value for an attribute was the position its rating had between the minimum and maximum possible attribute value for any resource that could go into that slot. Now, it is only relative to the maximum. This will generally improve the value of all resources, especially high-end resources which have high minimum values, especially when used in slots that have very strict requirements. So, for example, assume Frobozium steel has a toughness range from 750-850, and also assume that this steel is being used in a slot which specifically requires Frobozium steel. Under the old system, a particular frobozium steel with a toughness of 800 was considered 50% tough. Under the new system, it will be 94% tough (800 / 850). This change is now also reflected in the visual toolbar.

They improved the old BS system of "If x resource has an SR range of 700-800, and it's rating is 700, it counts as 0%." Now under the new system it would count as whatever 7/8 is. Basically, it's ignoring the lower bound of the gate, so essentially all resources ONLY have a gated upper bound when calculating effectiveness. So some will have an effective min range too, say if it spawns between 300 and 500, the effectiveness will never be lower than 60% for that stat.

Ah, I get it now. Hmm.. guess I have to recalculate all the resources again, not that it should make too big a difference.

Yeah, I reread it and now I get it. It means I have to recalculate all my resources again. And sort through my stockpile.. again. Hopefully it won't be as big changes this time, it should only mean that my good stuff got slightly worse, but also that worse stuff got relatively better. The best resources I gathered should still be best, but by a smaller margin.

Edit: Argh.. this probably means I won't hit 6000 any more on unlayered armor. But it could also mean that I'll hit it easier. I'll have to recalculate all resources while the server is down I guess.

Lol, I knew that system sucked, so I used some resource kits on some older high range SR resources to make sure they would change it again

Kind of sucks that we have to wait till May 10th for this. Hopefully it'll slip into live right now...

Also sucks that I just started a run of armor segments ... but oh well.

What ever was your best resource for a build before this change will still be the best resource for that same build.

Would you care to test out a 400 year old sword to see if it's decayed to condition 0? All the prior testers have no comment. Perhaps a gun which was used in WW I and still fires with high accuracy upto 1km?

If that doesn't get you, then start reading current military specifications for combat equipment.

Um...it's going live right now. Servers are down for patching.

Well, this doesn't change the general slots (much, some had a lower range like iron). It'll be yet another change for named resources though, not sure yet if it is for better or worse.
