Thread: Ranger Revamp = Cheaper Armor Prices?
Question: What will Scout be gaining?
- Answer: Scout will be gainingpossibly Ranger camps, the Sonic Pulse and Flash Bomb traps, possibly the trapping mods and the havesting mods contained within Ranger will be distributed throughout Scout. Structure of these changes remains unknown at this time.
All existing creature traps, creature knowledge, harvesting, and camps from the current Ranger implementation are moving to Scout

Essentially that means that more players will have increased harvesting capacities using less skill points. I imagine more people would have taken up creature harvesting if not for the skill point requirements before i.e. needing ranger to be effective.
So with all likelyhood there will be more people who can harvest a greater amount of resources for you armorsmiths.
So with the increased amount of resources available, I imagine prices for these resources will drop somewhat.
And since resource prices are part of the reason armor is expensive, does the Ranger Revamp in the end mean lower armor prices for all?

Sure prices will drop if they add in there that everyone will be able to gather large quantities of the best polymer, ore, fiberplast etc.... I don't foresee this having a great impact on armor prices at all. It doesn't matter if everyone had +100 creature harvesting if there are no good spawns to harvest
exactly
Doubtful. Now we will just have anyone, everyone, and their brother will be able to harvest more just by pickin up some scout. We'll just have an overabundance or horrible hides at low prices and barely any good hides, and any good hides will still be high priced causeanyone that has enough SP to dedicate to scout is gonna be a newb, figuring out what they want to do yet, or a noob, that is just after the quick cash. We're gonna end up with a bunch of noobs and newbs pickin up scout to make fast cash till they get to the FS stage, where they will stop scouting and the next round of newbs and noobs will take over. Since organics have always been 1 of the most expensive resources to purchase for armor, and i don't see that changin much, i don't think armor prices will be changin much. Plus the other specific and rare resources for armor won't be goin down in price, so cheaper armor prices are just wishful thinkin, me thinks.

There are a lot of people out there who became rangers because they enjoyed the "outdoorsman" aspects of the class. How many of them keep master scout after what will happen to the ranger class is unknown. But your best bet is to find one of these people and get to know them well, so you have someone you can rely on to track down the best available resources on each planet week in and week out.
Moving ranger skills to scout will not improve the quality of what gets harvested, only the quantity. If it's crap, then gathering 10x as much of it isn't going to make it any cheaper.
To add to your post ..
they get rid of the tracking in the game ... so if something affects armor prices its the fact that you wont be able to track your needed Peko Albatrosses etc. anymore.
*sigh*

There is a big difference between being able to harvest something and being interested in hunting and harvesting. Like Darth said, there are bound to be lots of people with at least novice scout skills who can harvest, but unless you need something that comes off of Pikets or Bols I doubt you'll find what you need let alone what you need with good stats.

There you have it. People have gotten into grinding "grooves". They have figured out what is most efficient for grinding and don't bother with anything else. Hunting creatures that aggro is totally off limits to them (try getting them to grind on hurtons or quenkers when a good spawn of dant woolly comes up, its worse than pulling teeth). If you want a spawn that is quality, you have to be willing to pony up the credits to get peoples attention away from grinding.

do you guys even play combat toons anymore?
hurtons give just as much xp as quenkers and hurtons. Same with gurks vs pickets. All about CL. If naboo bristley spawns good, I have no prob taking a group there to slaughter local wildlife
you talk like you haven't killed anything postCU

I think you missed his point ... it's not about the total amount of XP, it's about the grind mentality and the path of least resistance. Have you been in any serious grind groups post-CU? For grind groups running out of the Mining Outpost on Dantooine, it's all about bol missions. Why? They're non-aggressive, non-social critters; therefore, they are the easiest to deal with. Pikets are often social, necessitating aggro management (no easy task in a pickup group), and quenkers and huurtons are both aggressive and social, making the challenge even tougher. People who are using grind groups aren't looking for a challenge. They're looking for the quick and easy path.
Getting grinders to take any mission other than bols is indeed like pulling teeth. In order to get folks to jump over the hurdle of aggression management, you have to put the credit carrot out there.
