Thread: Hides for Suit trades? How much is a fair trade?

What I currently charget for my PA, in respect to armor pricing is either:
1. 5k hides (I tell them exactly what to get and where it drops)
2. 50k of a specific resource
3. 100k power
4. 200k credits

I hate to ask for credits, but I have received so many requests for a cash payout, and they set the price they want to pay for it. For a while I had 5m in power as it seems that was the easiest to get, now when a good hide spawns, I bug everyone to replace their armor and that a specific hide had dropped. Not really subtle, but I need to get hide somehow.

Well, what I did in my guild was have a guild hunt for the type of hide that I needed. Since allot of people can harvest each animal, I can get 40K of good hide in one good hunt. Since they helped me get the hides, I give them a huge break on the price, and if they help with other stuff, I just give them the armor.

First: shout out to you omploompa, when you gonna get to master to help me supply the town armor.. Haven't seen you on much at all this week. Big news is: Tycho is retiring as mayor and Seducing Empireis moving in to take over if he can win the election (hard to get votes to change on people not around)

Moving on, Thanks for the responses, maybe I made it sound like a big problem, but I really only had a problem with oneperson wanting/begging/spamming meforgoodarmor, and having nothing to offer in return. The other guildies are fine, willingly pay the prices, and understand my need to make cash to cover my butt. I don't know why I get no hide offersfrom em, it just doesn't happen. not a bad thing, not a good thing I guess, just the nature of the guild?

If you want to give your guild a discount then you need to sell enough to the public to cover the cost. Otherwise you will always be short of credits to buy more hides. Exactly how many people are you hooking up and how many suits per week do you sell on average? I bet your volume is too low for the amount of discounts you are providing.

Bottom line is are you in it to make some credits or are you just a guild alt that makes armor. If the first then you have to use a good business plan, if the second then make everyone pitch in on the armor costs and hides.

I guess this is sort of the dilemna. I am in it to make money to the public, but want to be able to provide for the guild too. I just can't do it without hide, but offers of 200 hides don't even cover 1 suit, let alone the ones I want to sell to the public. I don't quite sell enough to the public to cover this transition, so I guess I am just at an awkward stage in the game.

Harvesting hide is tedious, that is why you dont get hide offers. At least thats what they tell me when I ask for hide in return for armor.

I never had trouble getting hides for armor. My ubese was 100k a suit (I was a cheapie ) 5k hides got ya a free set ( 20 cpu). 4k if it was great wooly. I would advertise a specific hide, planet location, and animals it dropped from. Even for unpopular hides, I still got quite a few interested hunters. ( Got over 100k of nabooian scaley in one week, when it turned outstanding, offered 20 cpu cash, or 5k hides for free armor, every last one picked armor). Of course, on Intrepid, the armor shortage for ubese is so bad, people prefer armor to credits. Never had a full suit stay on my vendor longer than 12 hours. Certain pieces, yes, but not enough to make a suit
Even for hard to gather hides, it only takes a couple hours to gather 5k ( except talusian wooly).

If I'm low on hide I call my guildies and we go hunting where it's good, everyone harvests hide, and at the end of the hunting trip they all give what we collected to me, no costs, no nothing (sometimes rake in 10k hide on a hunting trip) In exchange I mkae my guild armor for 50% my retail value, and if I have enough loot segments lieing around (like fambaa segments, they love to hunt those, and a lot of the younger ones love fambaa padded armor, even if it's not uber) I will make it for free. 'Course I guess I have a rare guild, if you need any resource and ask in guild chat, someone with spare resources will give you a large clump free without hesitation, the architect will make you anything free if he has the resources (so far he's given me a fusion, four mineral extracts, two chemical extractors, two factories, and two houses without blinking)

We all believe in helping each other out, and we all do, nobody really mooches off of anyone, as we all give each other stuff pretty equally, if I feel someone has given me more then my share, I try to make it up to them best I can, and same goes the other way. By doing so our little town has become probably the nicest group of people on the server, and our guild produces a lot of very happy individuals with no greifers.

OK, I ran into this problem last night? A guildie of mine was driving me nuts to give him some armor, and I am deadly low on wooly hides (like only 300 ) So I told him that if he could get me some good wooly hides, I would trade him the suit for those.

My question is how many hides should I request? Atstraight market value (my 70%Ubese suits sellREGULARLY for 175k retail, Ahazi isa rich server, not the point) he would have to provide about 5k hides (at 17.5cpu!!!) for the guild price or 10k for the retail price. Is that too much to ask for in wooly. I regularly buy it for much less (8-10cpu)on the bazaar when there is some there, and have even hunted up to about 1k of my own on occasion (which is like free).

On another note, how do you price for guildies? I am our cities/guilds only master currently, but I don't have the huge bank account that others do (bounces between 2 and 3mil usually, never more than that). Most of my business comes through my city, so if I gave it away to them, i wouldn't lose a ton. Is a 50% discount from retail too much, too little or just right?

Keep in mind, I get no free hides from these people at all, I have sent various requests for hide for armor trades, but never gotten any offers...

Thanks.

I figure that since hides and suits are both server independent, the quantities of hides for a suit trade will be equal, even if the prices on both differ from server to server.

I think you are being more than fair. You could even come up with alternate pricing in hides. I mean they can make money doing missionsalso, you are giving a good price on hides, they keep money, you get more hides...

Sounds like you are being pretty generous to me.

Wow...you're guild won't help with some resource gathering? Do they get their armor from you?

I thought that was the whole purpose for being in a guild, to help each other out. Being able to hunt and fairly new to my guild, I have yet to ask anyone for that much of their time. A couple have offered things to me and I've provided armor to a few as well. Hope it gets better for ya.

Personally, I think 10k of good quality hide is a pretty good trade for a suit of comp. Nothing fancy though. maybe layer it with kinetic.

Hi Shlo, Omploompa here, I have a few people who provide me with hides on occasion and Ive asked some people requesting armor ( those without cash ) that they can do a hide swap. I usually charge 10cpu or I tell them every 100 hides reduces the price by 1k. I usually get a big mis match of hides this way. but lately I've not been on to search for the elusive wooly hides myself. You've always been fair to the customer as far as Ive seen, and have good posts, perhaps you should join the spammers at starports asking for hides? <just kidding>

Dissapointed in my guild in this respect. I sell my armor to my guildess at a 75% discount. Pretty darn good discount i think. Plus i repair it for free. If they ever help me out with hides, the expect me to pay the going rate for them. So i end up giving them a great discount and ont he rare occasion they actually ever bring me any hide, i pay 20cpu,just like i do for strangers. Needless to say i stopped giving disocunts the other day. We shall see if they complain.

Pricing might be the problem with your hides if your running into a shortage. Average prices on Corbantis is between 60cpu (average quality) to 150cpu (high quality) for wooly hides. I use the average quality hide between 1500 and 1600 oq/sr for ubese armor and save the good stuff for composite. If you are going to trade hides for armor its best to set a min lot size on the hides like 1k. Also its best to wait till a decent wooly hide shifts in and make it a public offer.

If you want to give your guild a discount then you need to sell enough to the public to cover the cost. Otherwise you will always be short of credits to buy more hides. Exactly how many people are you hooking up and how many suits per week do you sell on average? I bet your volume is too low for the amount of discounts you are providing.

hey shlomo,

I offered my guild free suits, but in exchange, when a good spawn or ore to be harvested occurred, every mother f**er in guild with some artisan/scout skills would spend a few hours of there time getting them for me. The results: Any planet with low level animals, ie coronet, naboo etc, I was for the most part on my own if good hide spawned, with guildies dropping me a few thousand total. Now when endor or yavin have good hide, i get 50K+ since they like to hunt there better. and typically I got an extra 100K of any resource I needed above what I harvested myself. This helped me so much when I first started out. Now that I have a majority of good resources I ask less, but only supply the guild with maybe 1 suit a week. If you are guilded I recommend striking this deal with all of your scouts. Now, as a side note, I tried to do this privately as well, with very very poor luck with high level scouts. I offered newbs who were grinding scout some pieces of throwaway comp or ubese per 1k in hide. This pawned out better on the good hide spawns on low level planets with moderate success interms of actual hide delivery.
