Thread: My 80% Composite Gloves A Question

Looking for something to do, I thought I'd tinker around and make a few things...sooo one of the end results was a nice pair of composite gloves:

My Composite Gloves

There was a screenshot of a similar piece posted here a while ago, except with 0/0/0 HAM.

Now, I'm just wondering..has anyone on any server been able to throw in a stun layer to close the hole (while maintaining the 80%'s - obviously, the stun protection would be much lower), and get 0/0/0 HAM or close to it? Resources, gated as they are, probably wouldn't permit it, but I thought I'd ask anyway

I would like to know what you used to make 80% base gloves. My max base was 76% but only during the one day nerf.

special NS layers and shards?

Yes there were a couple NS layers in there...I don't have the materials to make 70%+ base. Other than that, some really old spawns of resources I saved up.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you use NS layers, doesn't that prevent you from using crafted layers which would close the stun hole?

I.E. Your best bet would be to use high end janta hide and NS shards which could get the suit to 76ish. The best shards I've seen are -45 to each ham pool, so tack that off of the encumberence.

Then just hope for resistence slices. 76 + 20% resistence slice = 91.2 (caps at 90%).

The hard part would be getting high end Janta Hide and NS Shards

No, you can mix and match NS layers with crafted layers in composite (padded too). You would need some pretty high-end NS layers and possibly a Janta hide to get your 80% base and have a stun special protection, but it is doable.

Right but if you don't use all 3 layers as player crafted ones you wont have a very high resist to stun right?

For example on sunrunner you woudl need to triple layer stun to hit about 36-37% resist. If you have two high end uber NS layers and use one stun layer you would be around 12-16% stun resist, right?

Right now pvp pretty much revolves around stun damage, and since thats what this type of suit would be made for I dunno if that would be worth it.

Other than the helmet and maybe the chest, you really don't have to have that high of a stun resist IF you use a good psg in conjunction with stun layered armor. Against anything other than the jawa ion rifle, the AR1 from the psg and stun layered armor gets factored in twice which completely guts the damage from stun batons, geo sonic blasters, and tangle pistols.

For example, if you had a 44% base resist psg and armor with a simple 4% layer, a 500 damage hit from a stun baton would be reduced by 50% from the AR1 of the psgvs. AP0 leaving you 250 damage, then the 44% stun resist gets factored in leaving you 140 damage, then the AR1 of the stun layered armor gets factored in leaving you70 damage, and finally4%resist gets factored in leaving you all of67 damage taken. Compare that same setup only replacing the 4% stun resist with 40% and you end up with the damage getting reduced down to 42. So that extra 36% of stun protection onlyreduces your damage by 25 additional points or around5% of the original damage.

Granted, the rules are different againstthe Jawa ion rifle since it has AP1, but that's why I always recommend maxing out the stun resist of helmet since the damage reduction is based solely off of the armor's resists and no additional bonuses.

Anyway, the moral of the story is, if you want to maximize your stun protection, use a PSG with your armor. From my own personal testing, the PSG takes the brunt of the attack and will provide most of your damage reduction. Couple that psg with a set of stun layered armor (even armor with minimal stun resists) and you will have some very formidable protection.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought AP vs AR was broken in PvP which is why AP2 and AP3 weapons don't do the damage they should.

I think there's only one check on AP vs AR, so it doesn't get doubled-up if you have armor and a PSG equipped. Not sure about AP behaviour in PVP though.

Boy I dunno. If someone doesn't have 30 or better stun armor I take them out in about 5-6 seconds using a Geo Blaster.

Also, most people who pvp a lot, and enough to pay for a full suit of stun armor, typically use skill tapes in things like marubi belts and ubese bandoliers since they don't decay. PSG takes the place of a belt.

Something I've been confused on is PSG's in general, they were so buggy, they have AR1, how does that relate to having armor with AR1 already, and they have vulns you may or may not have in the rest of your armor, etc.

Anyway, back to the topic of the thread, you would need janta hide to do what andymantium is after, not NS layers. Using NS shards with the janta hide would be a nice treat too.

A little screenie showing that the armor rating of the psg and armor do stack. A special thanks to TK-329 (who was using a DH-17) for assisting with my test...unfortunately, TK-329, did not survive the testing.

http://www.imagedump.com/index.cgi?pick=get&tp=75079&poll_id=0&warned=y

If you look at the one hit for 245 damage, the log shows the PSG absorbed 151 points of damage. To arrive at that number you first reduce the original damage by 50% (AR1 vs AP0) leaving 122. Next you factor in the PSG's energy resist (24% on my test model) and apply that to the remaining 122 points of damage and that results in an additional 29 points of damage being absorbed. 122 points absorbed by the AR + 29 reduced from resists = 151 which leaves 94 points of damage to pass through to the armor.

Now the next line in the log shows my 80% energy resist armor absorbing 85 points of damage. Again, AR is calculated on the damage that wasn't stopped by the PSG. 94 reduced by 50%is 47. That 47 points of damage is again reduced by the armor's 80% resist resulting in an additional 37.6 being absorbed. 47 + 37.6 = 84.6, or 85 rounded up (don't ask me why it rounded up this time and not in the others). Now if AR had only been calculated once, in theory only the 80% energy resist of the armor would have been applied to the 94 damage that passed through from the PSG which would have been only 75 damage being absorbed.

Anyway, wearing a PSG is a situational thing. If you want the BEST protection against stun, you need to use a PSG and stun layered armor. If someone is tearing me up with a heavy hitting stun weapon you can bet I will give up my skill-modded belt (by the way, it's mabari, not marubi) to equip my PSG. All those bonuses from my belt doesn't do me any good if I am a corpse.

Oh, and I think you would be pretty hard pressed to hit 80% base even using Janta hides if you are using triple layers maxed out for stun.

:smileyvery-happyh, AR kinda works in pvp (pve too for that matter). All the bonuses/penalties are applied properly if your armor has resists to the type of damage being dealt. If your armor has a vulnerability or if you aren't wearing armor, none of the damage bonuses from using a weapon with AP are getting applied.

Somewhere along the way they had fixed (well, half fixed) AP/AR working in pvp. It just seems they did it quietly.
