Thread: Armor Type Question by a non-armorsmith
- Want to have a different look then every newbie asshat with a full suit of composite
- Give some armorsmith a change to make something different

I'm cluess when it comes to armorsmithing so I apologize up front if this is a stupid question.
Thank you
Personally I would go for Padded Armor. You can easily get kinetic and energy above 30% and there are many different color schemes possible (whereas there are only like 7 boring colors for chitin). Your AS would have to focus on encumbrance cause it can be kinda heavy. A good slice works wonders as well.

Interesting ![]()
I had some padded armor I customed order a few months back (from a MAS) and it came out with only 15-20% protections and the encum was higher then my Ubese with 70% kinetic and 30% secondaries ![]()
Guess the resources werent all that great at the time.
I appreciate the info ![]()
What about those other two types of armor.. one sorta looks like a dress and the other has some sort of tubing running out the chest (I apologize for the lack of knowledge in this field)... How good could those be made in kinetic and energy if you dont mind me asking ![]()
The kinetic doesn't scale with bone, but bone has a vunerability to kinetic. IIRC on other armors I've messed around with, moving something that's in the base (i.e. acid in chitin via a sharnaff plate) allows it to scale as you experiement on resistance, while moving something from vunerability (i.e heat and cold on chitin via a sharnaff plate) locks it in at the value on the segment enhancer.

If I recall, they don't scale with bone/voritor scales to make kinetic bone armor, so I don't expect them to with Chitin.

Yesterday I made some advanced padded armor with two kinetic layers resulting in kinetic resists in the upper 50ies and energy (base) resists around 30%. The encumbrance was rather high, but after a good slice, some chef food and a shot of brandy I could wear it without having to look for doctor buffs. My preference for padded stems from the fact that I think it just looks great (except for the helmet). It can be a pain to collect all the required resources though.

Dirth, thanks for the info.
I'm guessing it doesn't count with layers, since when I put in an Energy Layer in Ubese, it didn't scale. Won't matter, either way, since bone/chitin doesn't take layers. hehe
Hehe... I'm not really sure either. I've made a few pieces of advanced chitin with voritor scales, but I honestly don't remember how the experimentation went. I'd like to think there's a simple standard behavior to moving things from vunerability or base resist to special protection with a segment enhancer, but I really doubt that something as logical as that would've made it past SOE QA.

Okay, I tried this out and now would NOT recommend using a voritor scale to get energy into special protection. When you add the voritor scale to the segment energy is moved to special protection, and gets a percentage increase equal to the segment enhancer bonus plus the base value. In my case base = 16%, so with a 3% energy scale it moved energy into special protection at 19%.
Now here's where it breaks down. Nothing you do during experimentation on the segment can raise the energy resist. If you experiment on resistance, kinetic goes up but energy doesn't. If you experiment on quality the base goes up but energy doesn't. In the final assembly experimenting on resistance only raises the kinetic, and experiementing on quality raises the energy (now in special protection) along with the base resists.
In summary, if you want to go the advanced chitin route your best bet would be to get a 'smith that would be willing to mess around during experimentation to get the split you want on kinetic and base and just leave the scale out as it seems to mess up the experimentaion in this regard.
Messing around with low level armor is fun, IMHO. I just wish they'd do something to make Tantel and padded more useful.

Thank you all for your very informative replies ![]()
I have a trade thread going via the Bria trade forums looking for Adv. Chitin with 60% kinetic res and decent secondaries (including energy)
The Mabari and Tantel armor also sound interesting (though I take it the Tantel is in the same category as padded...)
Still would love to have those as well hehe
If any of you fine gentlemen are on Bria I would be very interested in buying ![]()
Or if you know of a fellow Bria ArmorSmith that you could refer me to. I have little faith in the trade forums these days hehe.
Anyhow, thanks again for all your replies and if any person here is on Bria, who has responded to me thus far, I would be more then happy to hook you up with a **FREE** Master Bio-Engineered CL10 pet (assuming you are non-ch) upon request.
My pets come out with 3/4k health 2/3k action 2/1k mind with 40ish damage and 1.98 attack speeds.
Thanks Again ![]()
