I need help with this please. I'm doing a suit for a client but...shocker, I'm a Master Armorsmith so I don't do PvP. I need assistance in choosing how to layer the suit. We have decided on one Stun layer since stun seems to be the damage du jour. HAM costs are not an issue to the player in question so I'm really just looking for the best combo in layers to protect him and give him the best value. Thanks in advance.

Not an armorsmith, but Was an avid PvPer, going into armorsmith anyways...
I'd recomend layering only the helmet and chest piece for stun, layer everything else for energy, thats what most pvpers want Stun Helmet/Stun Chestplate and Energy on everything else, and just get it all as high as possible, the encumberance probably dont matter! Hope that helps..

I make a balanced HAM PVP suit with Acid for helm/chest/arms/gloves and energy for legs/boots
Acid up top for DX2 Pistol (acid damage) and Scatter Pistol(Acid Damage). It also has a new use, as a Tenloss Headshot blocker (Tenloss is AP2 and does Acid, being touted as the new PVP weapon for Riflemen). The Energy down below is to block Carbineer legshots with AP2 Laser, DH17, or Elite Carbine (All Energy based--no variety in Carbineer...LOL).
They sell rather nicely.

Hello all...I am a master armorsmith and here is my question/comment to add to this discussion.
Other than doing stun protection layers in the helmet...wouldn't a better approach for PvP armor isto do cold or maybe blast damage layers in order to bump up the base in order for a nice effectiveness slice on the remaining protections?
Particularly cold layers since it is very very rare that I see anyone use that shower nossle in pvp or even at all so putting that into special seems the most obvious choice.

Well TheCapn, I am no armorsmith so I don't know if it even exsists, but by your reasoning wouldn't a restraint layer be the best then? I have yet to see anything do restraint damage.

Good point...I never really looked at the restraint layers...Ill have to check that out...
I think alot of the client base does not understand how slicing and special protections work...

No restraint layers.
Force does Restraint Damage I hear, but armor shouldn't even protect against that, IMO.
Problem with putting in a Blast layer and hoping for a good slice is that it's a gamble. Most headshots/bodyshots will be done by acid weapons, so why not make them acid resistant, and then make the bases still pretty high? It's a better setup, and then if you get either slice, you're better off than hoping for an eff slice, then getting an enc slice, and having 70-80 Blast absorb, with 50-60 Acid resist.

How is one Stun layer not worth the effort? Stun weapons don't do a tremendous amount of damage and by removing stun as a vulnerability and making it a special protection the suit automatically blocks 50% of the damage before the shot gets through, no?

Thats not entirely right. From what I've read and experienced, using a layer to remove a vuln does not equate to AR1. There seems to be a bug that still sees it as vuln to that damage type and just reduces the amount of damage. Im an avid PvPer as well as my PAs armorsmith.
The difference between my 12% stun helm and my 38% are tremendous. My guildmates and I can easily tell when we accidentally equip the old model. I also thought the same as you but form experience it does make a difference.
And for the record stun weapons do a tremendous amount of damage especially the jawa rifle. 250+ damage in PvP is huge. The more protection the better.
In response to your first question, here's the layering I use for my guilds PvP armor.
38% stun helm/63% base- sliceable to 85%
13% stun CP/ 67% base- Sliceable to 90%
Everything else is 63% base low HAM electric. I can easily make it w/ layers that have an encumb of 2. Helps on the HAMs and still provides up to 85% resists w/ a great slice.
Hope this helps some.
