Dunno if this has been asked/answered before - but a search has not turned up the answer.
Where/when does RIS come from in star wars literature/films? Nothing about it on the SWG databank.
The origins are Japanese, see... Why, do you ask? 'Cause I bought it in Japan.

RIS has nothing to do with Vader.
The real answer to this question is that RIS, like Composite, Padded, Wookiee, Maurader, Ithorian, Bounty Hunter, Shocktrooper, Rebel, Bone, & Chitin are not from the SWU. /sad, /pout
actually
composite appeared in KOTOR 1
Wookiee armour (or at least a number of similar pieces) appeared throughout episode 3
Bounty Hunter armour was worn in a number of the dark horse EU comics
Shocktrooper is an altered darktrooper suit
Pieces of bone armour appear in dark horse EU comics (never a full suit though)
RIS never did "appear" as far as I know, but it is obviously of a similar design to vaders
As far as the rest goes, its all made up for the game, ESPECIALLY the ithorian!

Not true! They got the Ithorian suits from "Short Circuit"!
I know an Ithorian who has a 'Johnny-Five Stay Alive!' macro.
Word. (paraphrased o'course). RIS looks like samurai armor, to me... It's probably thedress thing.
