Thread: Layer Question
Hi I want to mass produce some adv composite segments.
I would like to add some layers. What should my strategy be? What kind what to exp on etc. Your thought's and experiences would be nice. Please be detailed.
There are a lot of options here. First thing I should say though is that I have not made advanced comp yet (dang kirrium steel has not reared its ugly head for me yet) but these are possible layering strategies I would use for it.
Since you are mass producing I will leave out possible special orders that people might give (heat etc). That leaves 2 major layers to consider in my opinion Acid and Stun.
If you are going to go the Acid route I would not make 1000 segments of it since it is still a kind of special order but quite usefull (against BH who cant get past using the scatter pistol). With Acid I would experiment the Acid protection as high as it would go and probably put the rest into base protection and let them go out and hope for an encumbrance slice (conversly you could lower the encumbrance all up to you at that point).
For stun layers I would only be using it to get stun out of the vulnerable area so I would not experiment the stun protection on the layer at all and put the points into base and encumbrance. In this case I would probably only use 1 layer per segment.
Hope that gives you some ideas.
Hey Adhar,
I strongly suggest that you do Acid layers or Heat layers. Acid for Composite helmets, and Heat for breastplates (and legs if you want). They are needed the most.
Now, people vary on what they want for their triple layer pieces. I personally go for lowered (realistic) HAM on my Acid layers of at least 4/4/4. Your choice now is to put your remaining point(s) in base or acid. I choose acid, because that's the reason that I'm doing the triple layers in the first place. My final results are a wearable (without slice) 70% acid and elect., 55% to the rest Acid helmets.
Some people want to have that 80% acid helmet, and they don't care about the HAM, hoping for the encumberance slice. The great thing about my triple layersthough are that even without that encumberance slice they are wearable and good resists. In the end you have to decide what are the best qualities for you and your customers.
Hope that helps. If you want, send me a /tell ingame.
it does keep track of parts so your 3% with two more experiments could be 3.6 or so, and when you add three layers of 3%, your total could be 11% or there about.
stun is bad one to use as example though, most people when making stun max out stun before anything else.
exp points depends on what you want. if you want high base, max that, want low HAM, throw your points in to that and so on.

Oops, I said that wrong. I meant to say:
If you spend points in Quality, the base resist of alayer goes up by about 0.3% per great success.Using threelayers with 3.4% base resist (3%) will give a better segment thanwith 2.6% (3%) base resist.
The base resist of a segment goes up by about 1.7% per great success, the base resist of an armor piece (e.g., gloves) by about 2.7% per great success. This is independent of the resources used (the initial base resist of your segment or armor is dependent on the resources).
So, if you start out with a base resist on gloves of 40% and put9 points into Quality, you will end up with 64-65% gloves.

By "Panel" I assume you mean segment.
If so, then yes any layer can go into any segment that takes layers, like Ubese, Padded, and Composite. You cannot add layers to a looted segment, so if you have a Krayt compo segment you can't add a kinetic layer to it.
Segment enhancements are addditional enhancements to existing segments. A composite armor segment can have 3 layers and a segment enhancement, which gives some bonuses to stats. For example, you can loot Janta hide, which will add a few percent to your base resistance, so if you have a 65% base before adding the 4% hide, it would make it 69% base armor.
Some segment enhancements, like Krayt scales, add certain resists to the special resists column, making them less desirable to use as they make slicing less useful.
Hope this answers your questions.
So layers can only go into 3 of the different armor panels (Ubese, Padded or Composit).
Bone, Kayyyshian and Chitin do not use layers in the armor panel.
