Thread: Cortosis layers, our next 19 questions question?

With jedi now running rampant, generally without fear, I feel we armorsmiths need a counter. That counter is cortosis layers, there's cortosis ores in game. I think it is not unreasonable that we get a quest or are simply given a new schematic for cortosis armor layers.

/agree, but I feel this layer should be very low resistance on normal armours.

Right now I was planning on asking the question about an armorsmith bandolier that I had planned to ask in the last 19-questions session. I think the cortosis question will definitely be the next one though.

Hmm... I don't think such lightsaber damage layers would be usefull...

AP2 of lightsabers only applies when the armor has any ressistance against ls damage, so jedi don't have any advantage of their AP2 when no layers are in the armor. If a ls layer will be added to the armor, ap2 vs ar1 will apply, so there is only (a little) use in lightsaber layers, when you get over 25% ressistance in the complete armor.

If I rember my lore right Cortosis ore was rather britle and while it was quite good at deflecting/stoping lightsabers it was dificult to build things with it that would stand up to other formes of abuse/dammage (although doable if KTOR is taken into account). Most likely it would need to be balanced so that to get good protection to Sabers the armor would be rather weak vs kenetic/energy. With the new equpiing delay I could see this as a viable option.... if you plan to go into combat agianst a jedi you need to plan ahead and know you may be vulnerable to his non jedi budies, if you want high defence vs his budies your gona get smacked by the jedi.

Hope you get something along these lines.

To Upgrade something implies that you are adding too, enhancing, and fixing the thing that you are upgrading. The CU does not do this, it is not adding too, enhancing, or fixing the combat system that is in place, it is replacing the innovative SWG system with the generic one used by its competitors. Be honest and stop calling it the CU, Call it the CR (combat replacement) instead

From what I've read of Cortosis, it is said that it "shorts" out the lightsaber...correct me if I'm wrong.

I was thinking a better idea instead of a resist would be that the higher quality layer, the higher the chance that some kind of delay/warcry/disarm effect would stick to the Jedi for a moment or two. This would make it not resist in it's purist sense, and wouldn't overpower the idea...maybe.

Just my two cents.

cortosis or does sht down a LS. doesnt break it of course but short circuits it for the moment. if youve read any EU books youll find that even the Emperor had cortosis layering around his private rooms in his Coruscant castle to protect himself in case a jedi got loose in his arena hehe

Perhaps this "shorting out" could be mimicked by simply making a LS unequip (and with the weapon change delay it now takes a small amount of time to re-quip it) if it hits cortosis layered armor. Say a 1/5 chance or so? It shouldn't unequip every time, but a jedi should think twice before going up against someone in cortosis.

Additionally, looking at cortosis ore stats in general, they always have a low SR and UT so making a good layer out of them would be difficult.

Cortosis will already make your armor junk, its gated at like 200 sr or something awful. Just make the layer require at least 50 % of its main resources as cortosis ore, and viola we got the same deal and even a lil worse as stun composite, where you cant seem to get it to par at max special resist.

Cortosis
this unsusual ore was known to repel the energy of a lightsaber blade. It was believed that Emperor Palpatine had some of the walls in the Imperial Palace on Coruscant lined with cortosis. The Jensaarai sect also used strands of this ore to layer their unique armor. Using the Force, they wove the cortosis into the shapes of vicious, predatory animals, making their armor forbidding as well as better able to defend themselves. The Chiss also knew of the strengths of cortosis, and used it in the walls that formed the Hand of Thrawn fortress on Nirauan. Despite its resistance to the blade of a lightsaber, cortosis was unstable in the presence of explosives, and would shatter if hit with a grenade.

Nah. With reports that Tantel and PSG's being stun and Ls resistant, they will turn it down. This gives tantel a useful purpose to the game.

Yeah, composite is our moneymaker. Everyone wants composite. But, it would defeat the purpose of having multiple armors, when only one (composite..ok..RIS) is truly the useful one.

So, get ready for making another type of armor to sell.
