Thread: Layers bugged? Or is it just me?

I have recently been trying to experiment on Stun and Kinetic layers and keep getting the same thing. When I try to experiment fully in the experimental durability all goes well until I get to the last 7% or so and then it takes 3 experiment points to reach that final 7% which it normally only takes the 1 experiment point. I have tried this repeatedly with different resources and different combinations of blocks (1,2,3,4 points at a time) and keep getting the same thing over again. I am a 12 point armorsmith and usually use the 2 extra points in some way or another to lower encumbrance. This is something I have been trying over the past week or so and get the same results so it isn't just today.

If anyone could try this out on the Stun layers and Kinetic layers and confirm that it is just me having this problem or if this is bugged. I am going to go and test some other layers out and will see if I have the same problems with those.

Thanks in advance.

I am wondering if someone could please try this out and let me know if it is just a problem I am having. Any feedback from testing I would greatly appreciate as I am still having this problem.

Thank you

I just tested this on a kinetic layer. Spent all my 10 points on durability and this is what I get:

Durability Health Action Mind

21% 15 15 15
28% 14 14 14
35% 13 13 13
42% 11 11 11
49% 10 10 10
56% 8 8 8
64% 7 7 7
71% 5 5 5
76% 4 4 4
78% 4 4 4
79% 4 4 4

All experimentation results were "great successes". Initially, every point gives a 7% increase in durability (or once even 8%!), but towards the end the increase starts decreasing. After having spent 10 points the maximum durability was not reached yet (still one box open).

So I confirm what Lira posted: it seems there is something weird going on with experiments in durability.

Idont have the numbers here, but for my current kinetic comp armor, each point I spend in durability lowers ham cost, down to the final 3 3 3 when the line i maxed out. This usually leaves me with 4 points to spend elsewhere of my 12 I believe. I dont see the issue you guys do.

I think your materials are reaching their cap. Have you tried doing the experiment again with higher MAL resources?

Here is what I have noticed, and I'll try to explain as best I can, because it is complicated. In the top block of the experimentation on layers, there are 4 fields which can be raised: integrity, health, action, mind. In order to get an amazing success, you have to have ALL FOUR fields have a great or amazing success.

The way I experiment (as a 120% armorsmith) is to dump all my initial points in lowering that field, so 7 initially. Most of the time i get a great, and everything drops to 4 or 5 encumberance (and integrity goes up). A few times you get a moderate success and you will notice that something like this will happen, 4 or 5 health/mind and 20 action (this confirms that all four are seperate fields).

In order for me to use the layer, I drink the bonus experiment drink and pray to the gods that be that I get an amazing success, and I remake until i get an amazing success (which generally drops everything down to 4 Encumberance. Once I finally get that, which might take at least 10 tries, I put 1 point into reducing the encumberance, 1 point into raising the kinetic resistance, and the rest into base. With my current resources, this creates a layer thats 2 enc, 5% kinetic, 47% experiment on my way to 3% base (50% is 3 base, but remember that the percentage carries over -25% experiment will get you 2%, but when you add 3 layers at 25% experiment (2 base) into a segment, you will notice the base is much lower than 3 layers at 47% 2% base layers.

Generally with everything put together I get 64% base, 80% kinetic, and 600health, 510 action, 620 mind for encumberance.

Of course, it takes forever

Oh yes, my layered segments end up being 16% kinetic, 27% base, and (i think, not possitive) around 15HAM

Wow...this blows. I see what you're talking about. Gonna try it tonight. I used to be able to get 1/1/1 layers. Haven't crafted any in a while though.

Yesterday I did some tests with kineticlayers as well. As I was about to post the results I spotted this nice thread, so here goes:

I got a startpercentage of 22% and in therory that would allow me to go to 78% with a 7 point amazing (the max I could put in the bar on the first experiment). After doing 100 layers I had only one occurance of a true amazing 7 point success. (all experiments done in a research center, btw). I had great successes ranging from 64% to 72% even though a 7 point great should lead to 71% (never go this number while testing). The goal of the day was to reach 3 3 3 ham layers with enough points to spare to reach atleast 6-7 kinetic (2 points required), but this proved impossible to do, even though it should be easy in theory. As a sidenote: several times my 7 point great went to 72%, if I added another great I would almost always get 78% out of the extra point added. This doesn't make sense! (at 78% my layers are usually with equal ham except for one number which is lower by 1 point)

Seems to me durabilityexperiments are bugged when compared to the other types. Since it is very very easy to get stable results on the other lines of experiment. Also funny to note all the failures and good successes in durability contra the amount you get in other lines, the rate of theese is enourmous!

Just my 2 cents.

Speaking from months of AS experience, once you know and item will max out (this is due to the quality of resources) put your points into something else.

I seem to have forgotten to add some info in my last post. My kineticlayers cap at 81% to durability. So I was trying to get there useing 8 points in total, with 2 points to spare for special. Which would lead me to a lighter than normal (for a 10 point smith anyway) 80% kinetic composite.

u know i thought i was going insane but now after reading this post. it was time to make a new schem for kinetic and for some reason i am not maxed out at 4/4/4 layers rather then 3/3/3 layers. same resources i've been using but no luck something is definetaly off

Who wants to bet a GDK scale that the devs are slowly implementing the crafting chages that were put in place before? Or something similar.

It seems this was the way they worked.

I am a relatively new MAS on Valcyn. I made a schem for Kinetic Layers last night using the best resources I could find and I ended up with 3/3/3 layersthat were 2% base and 5% Kinetic. I will post later this weekend when the factory run gets done on how the segs turn out. However, using some hand me down segs with similar resist levels I found that I was only reaching 78-79 kinetic resists.

I know most of you will cry resources as to why I am not hitting that cap, but I am not sure if that is the case. I was grandfathered in in my guild and so I have many of top resources ever to spawn on our server to play with. I confirmed this on SWGCraft as well so I am wondering if there was stealth nerf put through on the layers or segs?

On other thought I have had is if some of the current quality suits some of newer types are seeing are based on "nerf day" components? For example, the largest AS on Valcyn is selling 42% Stun Composite right now, yet when I craft the layers using a 1000 SR Vertex Gemstone with similarly high OQ (like 980 I think, and no I am not selling it!) I can only get 3 layers to come out to 36% stun. I think something has been done in terms of rounding down the hidden percentages in layers. I cannot hit 80% Kinetic without impacting HAMs on my layers.

That being said I am rather new at this so there could be something I am missing, but I have noticed that I have yet to get any of those magical "bonus" points in assembly. Could be resources, but I am seeing it across the board so far.

Any thoughts?
