Unless they're going to start designing farms for people to harvest hides from, this increased hide requirement for armor is for the birds...
We've been complaining about how the hides limit certain armors (anyone make any good adv padded lately? Not me.) and now they're INCREASING the amount of hides we'll need to make armor with?
Ahhh, wrong way people.... this is star wars, not 'sticks and bones wars', I think we can use some synthetic materials in place of most of those hides these days.......

More Hide?!?!?!
I guess this means that I''ll be making Mo money, Mo money, Mo money!!!! Yes, armor will be more expensive even now.

Perhaps this will tie into a Ranger revamp that has been put on hold for two years. As it stands now, Master Ranger doesn't gather a ton more then a scout. Perhaps they will be increasing the amount Master Rangers can harvest?
If not, I am glad I am no longer playing.

Maybe faction armour won't require hide? Making it cheaper...... Some wishful thinking on my part.

The biggest problem with hide I suppose is that you would have to work at collecting it rather than simply putting down a harvester and leaving it for 5 days.
So, considering that a lot of AS will not have a combat profession and scout/ranger profession alongside their armorsmith proff (unless they have an alt ofcourse) then either you pay a ranger to harvest or you buy it from a vendor.
Okay, not much change from before then, right? Well, I'm not so sure...
A lot of the threads here talk about the enormous quantities of hide that will be required to craft decent armor (because, let's face it, once people figure out what is the best, no one will want anything else - guess that is why they've profession certified different armors I suppose) which will therefore put up armor prices. Now stop me if I'm wrong, but I read that Ranger ain't gonna be so hot after the CU and that people reckon that Rangers will drop to get another proff...
...if that happens, you'll end up with even fewer Rangers and since they will be needed to harvest enough resources (their harvest bonuses being greater than Scouts) to craft armor then either every AS will have Ranger alts or Rangers will start to charge silly amounts for the hide...
which ofcourse meanswe'll start charging sillier amounts for the armor!
Now the real question is this: who'll be able to afford this armor exactly? Not sure about everyone else but at the moment the economy of SWG feels rather stagnant - since solo group payouts get nerfed, they aren't worth the money unless the loot is good. Un-grouped even master proffs get 8k max on most planets so where do people make money from? Yep - LOOT
And who buys the loot? Other players - so unless I'm mistaken and I just haven't noticed everybody grinding through 300 Dire Cat lairs a day, the majority of money being used in SWG is player money? Not much is being created through mission payouts.
If the CU makes everything more difficult (not a bad thing in itself I might add) then making money from missions will be even more difficult. So, eventuallythe money will start to thin out, spread around from player to player and when that happens, nobody will be able to afford anything!
I'm not sure I've got this right tbh but there must be a semi-valid concern in there somewhere
This isn't a moan btw, just genuine concern for the state of a game I enjoy.

They are putting Rangers and Scouts in a hole that we can't get out of.

It would not surprise me anymore, the devs have a nack at making whole professions useless..... Is this the much hyped ranger re-vamp

i'd really like to see rangers be able to use static traps, like harvesters, for catching creatures. leave the trap up, come back a day or 2 later & collect the hide from the critters it trapped & skinned for you.

If that is the case just imagine how much of a pit your going to put yourself in just to get those resources. ill be honest how many rangers/scouts are going to be willing to hunt post CU? Or even be rangers/scouts afterwards? I will be one of the few left on Kett.

So will the Rangers /wink
I have no problem paying top credits to Rangers (I pay 100-300cpu for good wooly) who bring me massive amounts of hide/bone.
We have a symbiotic relationship with each other, too bad some AS's see it as a parasitic relationship.
I'm hoping Rangers get some love in this CU to harvest more or at least some type of Trap/Harvester to get hides/bone/meat.

Expect more JTL grinding instead of mission terminal grinding.
