Thread: If you are looking to find/sell something specific to your server...
Thank you.

I understand how asking for a particular order is out of line, but I'd like to know why simply trying to gather the AS's from one specific server together is a no-no. Some people make huge lists of all servers, and that's fine, but if I want to address the Armorsmiths from my server alone, then the place to do it should be HERE. If I want to work on a problem, need help with some questions or want to help out noobs in my neck of the woods so to speak, I should be able to address my server specific needs here. Sure, others may chime in, it's a free board after all. But having non-trade Armor specific threads locked simply for mentioning their appropriate server, or the expressed intent to reach out to their server.... that's a beyond reason and totally uncalled for.
I come to these forums to get help and give help. But second to the bug complaints, the next largest posting of messages is about whining about "inappropriate posts". Some are, we know this. But some aren't. And perhaps it should be Caile making that distinction and the forum mods instead of self-appointed forum nazis ( I know, I've done it too ).
Anyway, my rant is done. But this has been under my skin for a while. Simply because a post has a server name in it or the poster wants to discuss matters with his/her own server-specific AS's doesn't mean everyone should invite flames on them and try to get the thread locked. Period.
I understand, my point is that 3 posts that I know of in the past 2 weeks have been locked simply for trying to target the Bria Armorsmith community. Now, I just reread the posting restrictions again ( sticky by Jeassa ) and it says:
Any post looking to buy, looking to sell, or asking for prices is prohibited.
So I would like to know how this excludes posts such as:
"Hello, I'm from--server-- and I want to find other--server-- Smiths for X-Y-Z" - ( non-business of course, but perhaps comparing stats, business tactics, etc. Simply not trying to sell something or buy it )
Or, "Starting a list of--server-- Armorsmiths - post within"
Or, "Looking for a --server-- Armorsmith for help"
Now, the AS list might overlap with a list that span galaxies, but given that at the time it didn't exist.. I don't see how this could have been an argument when that post got locked. I just saying, the Armorsmith forum is and SHOULD BE the recognized place to connect with other armorsmiths, including those from your own server if you should so choose. It does not violate any given rules to blatently solicit the attention of a particular server for means that do not buy, sell, or trade specific goods. While I think this would also naturally allow contact for the purpose of starting a possible business, since it does not involve the buying or selling of goods or giving of prices on the forums, I can understand how this might be borderline.
I'm just tired of seeing legitimate threads locked because they simply contained a server name and someone felt left out.
edited to put back in: --server-- comments

There are 26 servers. The front page of the armorsmith forum comprises about 30 posts. If we were to have server-specific discussions on this forum, it is quite possible that the vast majority of the front page of the armorsmith forum would be totally, completely, and utterly irrelevant to everyone looking at the forum.
The server forums are there for a reason. The profession forums are here for another reason. Rarely do those reasons overlap. If you want to address a bunch of armorsmiths on a particular server, the forum for that particular server is the place to do it, not here.
I remember that post you are referring to about the Bria AS trying to build a specialty operation. Most of his post is okay and was an interesting read to me. The idea was something that was worth discussing in this forum and if he just put a little plug at the end saying go to the bria trade forum if you interested, it would have been fine IMO. People in here were able to talk a little bit about the idea and if they felt it would work, but the author did nothing to facilitate the conversation and just kept bumping it looking for AS to join him. At that point it was annoying and needed to be locked.
I guess what I'm trying to say, if you have an idea, submit it here and let it be discussed by the community. If you throw in a plug at the end of your discussion about checking out the trade forum if you're interested, I think that's okay too. Under no circumstances should those posts be bumped. If the community doesn't want to talk about it, then let it go and you just use your forum board. Make sure it's a discussion here, and not a recruitment post, most of us don't care and it wastes our time.
26 servers... 30 post spaces.... Are you saying you can't use the "next" button?
I would agree if the post was not getting any response, then perhaps let it die. But given that most people don't check the forums regularly.. then perhaps they might miss it on their once or twice per week pass. It's a give and take situation... A good idea shouldn't have to die simply because that week the AS's were busy...
You make a good point Leviticus so I'll leave it at that. I wish this could be clarified though along with the "no buying, selling, etc" sticky.

For clarification, I hadn't requested any threads locked yet. I give notice before I do.
I did. I notify the mods that they're in the wrong forum, and it's up to them to either move or lock them.
