Thread: Urban Planner may not be a new profession after all... (from dev chat)
FYI... Personally, I LIKE THIS IDEA. Please don't make me spend any more skill points than I already have!
While it would be great if I did not have to put more points into another specialty profession, I doubt that the Devs would be that nice to us. What have the Devs ever done for us that showed that they even gavea rat's behind about Architects?
All I see from the Devs are Corellian houses which are nothing but Generic houses. Usless furniture and lights that do not work. With an occational nerf they throw at us from time to time that they call "fixing" our profession.
Not an architect, but I agree with this too.
- Asking a player to devote nearly all his skill points to build buildings will just make the player quit after some time.
- Player city market will be very restricted. Once th ecity has a bank, it has a bank.
- Most cities have planned to level an Urban Planner already. Meaning you'll have one per city who will get all the business and this is it.
- Architects have enough of a grind getting to master. An individual likely would spend MONTHS to achieve Master Urban Planner.
- I don't want to hear about the resource costs to grind to UP
- Adding UP buildings to Architect adds diversity to a profession that seriously lacks in that regard.
Agree totally. Ran out of skill points weeks back, and all I have is master architect, a few merchant boxes, one or two scout boxes and novice pistoleer. Adding a new profession would effectively limit takers to being pure architects/urban planners with next to nothing left over for anything combat-related. It might appeal to a few, but even us architects like to go fighting from time to time ![]()
Skarra, Master Architect
Well i like to argue so here i go.....
I really thinkPlayer Cityshould be seperate from the base Architect tree....If it is added to the architect tree then player city buildings will fall victim to the same economy problems as regular Arch buildings have.
Having Urbans Planner be an elite-elite will minimize the amount of urban planners in the game, and will allow those who really enjoy building things to control the market for them. Becoming an urban planner (if they decide to have the proffesion require significant skill points) will require dedication because you will have to give up other skills.
"Ran out of skill points weeks back, and all I have is master architect, a few merchant boxes, one or two scout boxes and novice pistoleer. Adding a new profession would effectively limit takers to being pure architects/urban planners with next to nothing left over for anything combat-related"
so this means you have novice marksman, novice scout, and noivce artisan....and then 3 elite proffesions
no one should be so many proffesions that they spread themselves so thin. Having elite-elites will have people focus on 1 proffesion. I know this is a stretch, but...having 3 novice proffs like you do is like being skilled in the Sword, Bow, and Magic in rpgs like eq or my last game, ac2.
let me know what you think of that, dont flame cause id really like to hear thoughts about this topic
"Player city market will be very restricted. Once the city has a bank, it has a bank."
What about things like statues and decorative city things.....kind of like the furniture part fo the architect tree.
However you did make a good point about cities already having people lined up for Urban Planner, but new "outposts" to "metropolis'" will turn up.....i think there will be more of a makret for Urban Planner than people think.
My architect is a crafter-only character. That's my choice and I have fun with it. I'd like to have some advantage over the scout-marksman-pistoleer-architect when it came to making city buildings and if they just stick all the schematics in the normal architect tree, then a pistol-twirling, uphill-running, rabbit-skinning character is gonna be able to spit out cantinas every bit as good as me.
Those that want to be spread all over the place can make furniture all they want, but I think making the city buildings should require a little more concentration and expertise.
